Coming from almost 20 years in Apartment management/maintenance, If your front door wont close because the latch is hanging out, you should check out this internal door repair called ReSecure Latch. It solves the problem of loose door latches or dead bolts that sits inside the door bore hole. Found them on YT. What's nice is that it replaces that ugly metal cover that ruins the look of your door and the stick and putty mess.

@@homemend Hello I have a partially damaged door frame. The part of the door frame that holds the door. There's a open gap where wood was partially ripped out when the door was pushed in. It's the part of the door frame where the door hinge is and where the door hinge is screwed into the door frame to hold the door in place. Do you think Durham's rock hard putty can fill the gap in the door frame and screws can be drilled or screwed into it to hold the hinge in place with the door attached?

You did alright but I do have a suggestion for you going forward. When you need to do an edge like in the case of where the hinge was try this. Use a broad knife (5" inch blade) to keep your edge. Use a regular 2 and a 1/2" inch knife to spread your material over the main area and drag it down against the broad knife. It might help to if you have a little water on the broad knife. Just an idea for you. Good work.
