That was MOST helpful, it lead me to the fault which happened to be a spring. The spring had folded over, it snapped into 3 bits on removal (old and brittle). I replaced with a new spring from a pen cut to 15mm and fastened with bluetac. Will use glue if it ever pops out. Thanx to you we have music again. Very grateful to your tutorial. :)

John Tanner; it seems like what your problem could be is either a sticky key from locked up action (caused from piano not being played) or a broken bridle strap. open up the piano and see if all the bridle stripes are intact. If they are then it's locked up action. to repair this mix together 1 half denatured alcohol and 1 half water. spray this solution of the pivot point of the the hammer then blow it with a hair drier. be sure to work the hammer back and forth as your drying it.

I wonder if I can apply what I've learned from this video on my old piano...it's more than 10 years old...quite sturdy and such...but I've left it for quite some time without playing it...so, the sticky notes, the notes with the sound lost, you name it, my piano has it all...just wondering though, how do you fix a note that hits the string quickly? I mean, even when I press the note down and not lift it, it hits as if I was playing staccato instead of continuing to sound until it fades...

Dear Mark, I have a Schimmel 130T. A key doesnt go up, and have to push it up every time i play it (or hit A#). It seems that A# is one millimeter turned to the left and creates some friction with A. That friction prevents A from lifting. What would you do to the instrument for repair? Any suggestion would be extremely helpful. Thank you very much, Manu
@SuperScallopKing
@SuperScallopKing 11 жыл бұрын
I have the same problem. Seems like it doesnt have to do with pressing the key, but the hammer itself has something wrong with it. maybe a spring or something like dust jammed in-between the hammer and something else. for whatever reason some kind of friction or tension problem is keeping the hammer from not going back to where it is supposed to be.

Austin deClaire It is a device by which you can make the sound of your piano very soft. For studying in the eventing without disturbing anyone. So, you should have 3 pedals under your piano when you have this. The pedal in the middle can be pushen down and pushed to the side with your foot so that is stays locked in place. Now you can study your notes. Not with a wonderful sound but your neighbours won't complain.

What you actually did was to re-glue the jack back into the whippen! Working at pianos is addictive if you have the patients and dedication you could start replacing all the felts leathers and doing a full regulation. Provided the tuning pins are all reasonably tight it may be worth while,,, but then you may just want to restring and replace all the dampers and hammers,,, mind you provided the soundboard is in good condition you more or less have a new piano after that!
