If for some reason your video file is turned into a presentation or something else that’s not a video file just use MKV instead of dif.

holy shit thanks man. i've been doing the watch and listen method for all my vids where i sync it up by hand, but even then it'll desync later in the vid, so i have to do it again when i'm editing clips. this will cut that out so i can get to the actual editing and not taking breaks so i can sync up the audio every 10 mins. thanks again

so my finished edited video is about 1 hour long, a few hundred clips are in .dif format as i could not edit the clips otherwise without lags and crashes. but now i cant render the finished video? it renders fine until the first .dif clip, it renders the .dif clips all black and even crashes before finishing to render the whole thing... so vegas cant render .dif files? do i really have to manually switch every .dif clip to its previous .mp4 clip again for rendering??? im desperate, as im working on this video for years.... and replacing every .dif clip again would drive me insane...

There are actually two ways to solve this: 1. Change the file extension from .mp4 to .dif (as shown in the video) - OR - 2. Disable the So4 Compound Reader for AVC/M2TS in Sony Vegas The second method is better because it doesn't require you to change your MP4 files to DIF, which means far less work in the long run. All you have to do is follow these steps in Sony Vegas: 1. Click Options 2. Hold SHIFT and click Preferences 3. Click the Internal tab 4. Type "SO4" (the letter O, not the number) in the search bar below 5. Change "Enable So4 Compound Reader for AVC/M2TS" from TRUE to FALSE 6. Click Apply (or OK) 7. Restart the program Afterwards, your imported MP4s will sync up just fine and you'll never have to follow these steps again.

This works for me using Nvidia Experience (Shadowplay) and Sony Vegas Pro 15. However it makes the file unplayable by Windows, but bigger issue is that the Preview in Vegas becomes SUPER LAGGY and sluggish/choppy. But only if it's on DIF. So my question is - is there a way to make Vegas preview play smoother and faster after importing the Dif file?

Quick fix for some people might be turning off AMD Freesync or nvidia gsync before recording the footage but it won’t fix footage you already recorded using freesync or gsync
