I mark the text I want as heading.. Somehow it also includes the whole text underneath and changes its font, size and colour. When I try to put it back to normal, it wont change. The arrow on the side acts like a "pocket" which it puts the whole text inside.. I dont knwo how to fix it

how do you fix when numbers for the 1.1 are out of alignment on the right.

No matter what, TOC shows up on the right side of page(right outer margin). Why? Strangely, that somehow messes up the rest of the pages when I shorten the screen size of the page so four pages can be shown at once. The next page (5) under, is gain shown on the right side(meaning right outside margin)!! Sometimes two left pages can show up. Huge confusing problem. Can you help?Thanks! Ps. I use mirror margins for book. Margins 0.65 for top, bottom, left, right and 0.63 for gutter.

What of when the table of contents labels itself chapter 1, so that the introduction appears as chapter 2, what do I do about that?

There was an additional number added into my table of content where I have 43 pages but the table of content has my last item on page 44 :/ How can I fix that?

My text shows that it is normal, but still is included in table of contents. If I click "NORMAL" anyway, I lose all formatting.

My Table of Contents is not counting properly. It's saying Chapter two starts on page seven, when it starts on page 17! Then is shows everything else is on page 13. I have a total of 50 pages, so far (and counting; I'm not done writing my book). I am so frickin' frustrated!! Why isn't this working???

Except: Mine numbers TOC from page 1 to end of whole manuscript so 7 pages are before number 6 for intro????

I'm using WPS, which is similar to Word in most ways. Why the hell is the Table Of Contents so weird? It only puts in 5 "chapters", my book has 17 chapters, it says "Level 1............................." Five times ontop of each other, but I need to be able to add 12 more of those, then I can just erase where it says level one and type the chapter title, but it just doesn't work. I had it work before with a former book, but I just don't get it.

My problem is, when I select areas to format as heading 1 or 2, some heading 2 parts don't end up in the table of contents. Under one heading I'll have a few subs and then it skips to others not populating every heading 2. Even if I delete or reformat. I even tried adding the missing ones as heading 3. But some just won't work.

@@MyKitchen12 so I was doing non fiction and adding ToC for topics in a single unit not broken into chapters. The heading 2 is mainly for chapter titles and works with the first few words. As I was continuing on from one paragraph to another going to a different area of the same subject I just highlighted in-text and added set as h2. Well I was defining words and such so when I got to new words they don't need chapters. There may be a hidden way to do it. Like in the header perhaps by making an index entry into a heading 2. So you'd mark index entry and cut and paste into header and maybe format as h2. But then you run risk of having brackets show up. I'm sure there is a way but I've moved past that. I now am using Scribus to create my layout...I had word in the look unwanted 6x9 etc but export as PDF doesn't work. It's ok for epub I believe but not print book. And I scribus is actually pretty easy to use once you learn it a bit. A few channels here and the help section is great. I don't see paying 30 a month for anything adobe. And Scribus can export as PDF nicely. Affinity is another alternative and it's about 70 bucks and it's one off pay to use. Like old school program you buy once and use forever..now it was acquired by canva which makes me feel it may become subscription but they say it won't. But canva will bring some nice features I'm sure. So I my get affinity. Just because I've used canva app before years ago and was pretty good...and now it's great. Even free version. So I hope this helps. Ps. I haven't looked into making auto ToC with Scribus or index. I'm doing it by hand lol. I'm sure I could find something on it but I hate looking. I'm almost done.

But you missed one of the most common issues in creating table of contents which is: I can't find Heading 1 and Heading 2 in table of contents noting that I'm sure 100% that I'm adding some headlines as heading1 and heading 2 How can I fix that? the Heading1 and Headin2 do not appear on the ribbon nor on the navigation pane, it is like they don't even exist.

I fucking hate this automatic table of contents feature, it's just downright terribly made. Curse my uni for forcing me to use it.
