Thanks for the tip. I just attempted the 3.0 update and received the boot failure msg. I tried my old printer cable and it worked. My Helix was now located on Updater and I was able to continue with the update. Success!

I just got a Helix and I had this problem.. I was freaking out and loosing my mind searching through all of the line 6 forums and none of those fixed it. Then I found this video and sure enough it was the cable and I was able up update my Helix firmware without issue. Thank you so much.

Thanks so much for this! I tried updating from 2.7 to 2.71 (probably just should've left well enough alone) and have been pulling my hair out. I didn't look for any particularly old USB cable, just grabbed one off my printer (and don't know how old it is, but its definitely USB 2.0 because it came with the printer) and Helix update worked the first time I tried it.

Yeah! It works! Thank you. I have to say that I used an old printer cable too and connected it to a 2.0 USB in my old laptop, then I ran Line 6 Updater, switch ON the Helix and, magically, it recognized the floorboard and i could update it

Thanks man, my Helix wasn't even showing up in Line6 Updater until I found there were 3 different versions of Helix drivers installed on my computer. When I removed the drivers I could start the update but before the progress bar even started moving it would give me an error to try again. Like you, I was going around in circles but switching out the cable solved it. Thanks for making the effort of posting this to help others!

Exact same issue today updating from 2.80 to 2.81. I've done updates before using whatever USB cable I had to hand (I have a few, mostly from old printers) with no problems. Today was the first time I actually used the cable supplied with the Helix, and it failed exactly as you describe, multiple times. Took me a while to figure out it was the cable - tried different USB ports, various reset procedures, nothing worked until I swapped the cable for one of my old ones. Then it updated just fine.

Thank you. Its frustrating to get an expensive piece of tech only to be asked to update immediately. Then be unable to contact tech support only to have dead piece of tech. this is not the first time it has happened. lol

That's exactly what I did. It instantly started recognizing it after I plugged in the 'old' cable.

I had this same issue, boot failure over and over again. All I did was unplug the delivered cable from my PC, turn the Helix off, turn it on (it got the same boot error again), plug the same delivered USB cable in, launch the Line 6 Updater and it finished successfully. I think using a different cable is a red herring and it's more about unplugging the USB and plugging it back in...maybe.

I just had the same problem updating from 2.91 to 3.01. I kept trying the update and it kept failing, but the weird part is the boot up screen would look a little different each time, kind of like the update was taking a little bit at a time but kept failing out before it could complete. So I kept trying the update and it took on about the 5th try. Very weird.

hello, I want to ask friends here. Why does my Line 6 Helix LT experience intermittent sound (no sound even comes out) when the effect is first turned on? However, after 10 minutes the sound returned to normal. does anyone know?

It could be overheated. Have a pro check out the capacitors.

Try not only the multiple cables, but also from different usb slots on your computer. Some slots are 2.0 or 3.0 as well.

Had my helix stomp working perfectly fine with v2.30 until I updated the firmware to v2.7. Now it is unable to recognise my helix stomp both in line 6 updater and helix edit. Check the USB port work fines. Used a different cable still to no avail. God I do love Line6 sonically they are excellent but this technical problems are spoiling the experience!

When Line 6 tells you to not use a usb hub during any update....they mean it. No matter what a pain in the butt it is to do so...if your Helix is not connected to a dedicated USB port on your computer...get back there and make it so before you try any Helix update.

Not really, just use not only a different USB cable than the one provided, but also try a different USB slot and make sure you have the right driver for your OS.

Try to use another even different cable, and be sure to try in all of the USB slots...try a slot that isn't a 3.0 USB slot if you can. Good luck!

Yea I just tried to download some IRS and my daughter pulled the cable out while it was updating and now all I get is the regular line 6 screen and it stays there and nothing else works dont know what to do I just spent 600 on it this sucks.

Try to use the line 6 updater tool you can get from their site and see if it attempts an update. You might need to download the latest version of HX Edit ... I think it’s 3.01 first, then install and run line 6 updater and then run the HX edit and choose to update the helix from that.

Run repair on the program in “programs and features” and use a different usb cable as well as a different usb slot.
