Thanks for the video, I have a 2016 Elantra I knew Hyundai had a recall on this issue long time ago, but I didn't bother to take it back. Today, it's a very cold day and the latch finally failed. I hate the long wait at the dealership, I ordered one from Amazon $30 and got it done myself.

Couldnt close my trunk the other day and learned they actually put a recall out at the end of Feb for the 2016 elantras trunk hatch, tried to make an appointment at the dealership for the recall but they dont have a 'remedy' yet soooo it was on me. I knew I was gonna be quoted like 300 for this fix but found your video, bought the same part you bought through amazon and installed it today and viola! it works! I figured at worst if it didnt work I was only out 16 bucks but it worked! thank you again! wrote this out for people who were perhaps skeptical, its a simple fix that even my 20-something female self could do it.

Thank you for this video!! I was told it would cost $300 to replace the latch. A quick check online and I had the pice ordered and delivered the next day for $18. Your video showed me EXACTLY what to do and how to make it easy. Aside from a stubborn electrical clip that wouldn't come out, the job was super easy. Just wish I had watched this video first before having to pay $57 diagnostic fee. ; )

I’ve replaced my trunk lock actuator, the trunk now works normal and the remote and button on the trunk work, but the trunk release lever on the inside of the car doesn’t open the trunk. Do you have any solutions or ideas as to why this is happening?

Take apart the trunk latch again, and when you pull the trunk release, you should see the cable on the latch also retract (you might have forgotten to connect that cable)

I just replaced the latch mechanism and tried the latch and it stopped working again. I noticed the old latch works now that its unplugged and i test it. Is it possible that the wire to the latch is the problem?

Hyundai issued a recall for faulty trunk latches for 2015-2016 Elantra. Not sure what the recall covers but it may be the entire latch replacement as shown in this video. Check your dealer to see what’s covered and check the recall site to see if your car is covered under the recall.

I played with the trunk button and hit it a couple of times in that area, and it popped open, also the dealership can help you get it open.

Mine finally broke today it was giving me trouble though leading up to it. Some say high heat may be causing the break of the plastic parts.

It's simply crap design with cheap Korean plastic parts. The part that broke should be made of metal and not plastic. Hyundai might make good looking cars but the quality is lacking.

I have just come th the conclusion that hyundai s are garbage they have electrical problems on the turn signal lights and now a truck that randomly locks itself and that the owner can't get into

Make sure you connected the electrical connector on the actuator.

The only option is to fold down your back seat, then crawl into the trunk and try to see if the emergency release pull will open it. If not, the last option is to go in your trunk and cut through the carpet liner and rip apart that release mechanism and try to open it.

I'm having the same issues. My truck release button broke off and the key fob doesn't work. I was gonna try to figure out a way to fold the seats down but every video I've come requires the truck to already be open to get the seats down.
