Paul, if you need to repair a plastic gas tank, they are made of HDPE plastic, the same as oil bottles, so if you cut an empty cleaned oul bottle into strips, you can make a lasting repair, and not go broke buying rods for plastic that you might only need once or twice.

You did an awesome job with the plastic welding. I would suggest scraping the dirt and skin off the surface of the tank before welding to help it fuse better, but all in all it looks like a great job. Very smooth and neat.

Plastic welding works great most of the time. I've had 2 RV holding tanks welded in the past. Never leaked after. Good stuff thanks!

Nice job on the tank. I have been doing body work for over 45 years and have lots of plastic welding under my belt. I just use a weller soldering iron with a flat round tip now as I burned up my welder. To smooth out I heat an old putty knife with the torch and smooth and blend. If you clean the plastic real good before starting when you preheat it it will start to shine when ready. Keep up the good work, you are very talented for a young feller.

Nice work on the welds! These tanks are HDPE which is the same stuff as the plastic cutting boards (if you run out of filler rod you can head down to the dollar store). Most body panels are ABS which can be fixed with a slurry of acetone and ABS plumbing fittings mixed in a glass jar. I used the slurry last week to fix my RV gray water outlet, and reattached some clip mounts on my truck grille (unrelated projects haha)

Wow, Matt beat me to it, I was going to say you should have Matt there to let you know if the plastic is still hot 🔥😏😉 I like the way that you fix things, first repair it, then reinforce it, then patch it again. That spot will not leak👍😁 I think you need a little more weight in the back of the truck before you try to climb the mountain 🤔😳. Can't believe nothing broke. 👍👍

Having done my share of plastic welding, I've got a feeling that if there is any leak, it's gonna be from some other part of the tank. That was THE most extreme patch I could have wished for. Also I've learned to do such things from a ultra ventilated area. The intro and 5:00 mark promotion for safety gear, namely safety glasses was priceless.

Morning folks, thanks for another video! As the guy who used to do most of the millwright work in a cabinet shop, I've welded lots of plastic in my checkered past. Since they wouldn't get me a plastic repair tool, I did it with a large soldering iron and a stick of plastic - like old fashioned wire and flame welding you could say. Anyways, the mesh reinforcement is brilliant! Thanks again and all the best to you all this year.

I plastic weld the poor man's way, it's served me very well so far, I just take a junk flathead screwdriver and heat it up over a propane flame, use it to melt the material back together, pretty easy to get the hang of, probably not as strong as the plastic weld kits but I've never had one of my plastic welds break that wouldn't have broken either way, then again on a gas tank, being pressurized and whatnot, you probably did it the best way possible
