I find this method to work in small patches, if you want a long term fix for the whole headliner scrape off all the foam and buy a new headliner and use the adhesive

Dude it’s not THAT easy. 9/10 the sag is towards the middle of the roof with no edge access meaning you have to remove the entire headliner and replace the entire piece of fabric.

Don’t EVER go back to that mechanic again! That is a straight up rip off! He’s charging you for an entire new headliner and charging full price. But I bet he’ll be replacing the fabric in your old headliner.
@wiznova70533 ай бұрын
Anyone going this route, make sure you read the instructions on the can. You need to wait for the adhesive to be tacky before you reattach the headliner or it will bleed through. Also, redoing the whole headliner from scratch with new fabric will always give a better result and is what I ended up doing in my own car.

The foam on my headliner is really bad, when I tried it all it did was peel off after an hour, I think I have to scrape it first just to get the loose parts and then glue it
@MISTER__OWL Жыл бұрын
Uh alright it's not a bad quick fix. The proper way to do it is by removing the headliner and reapplying the entire headliner with new adhesive and using a flat edged tool to smooth out bubbles and wrinkles.

thanks- my old Jeep xj’s headliner is in pretty good shape except for a spot right over the drivers seat I accidentally bump/brush with my arm sometimes when getting in and out of the car. Hopefully I’ll be able to figure this out myself and fix it : )
@francopicc_0698Ай бұрын
this will work temporarily because the cause of falling headliners is rhe foam in between the fabric and the roof that deteriotates and if you put glue it will just stick to the old and deteriorated foam

This is a short term fix. A few months later it will fail again. You have to scrape the old deteriorating foam off and replace the liner.

1 week too late for me. I requestes this glue from my Auto Parts Store, and they gave me a generic Aerosol Auto Adhesive (from 3M, but it clearly wasn't for headliner) and that made a huge mess, making lines of material and etc...
@nf275110 ай бұрын
This is not a proper repair solution. There’s a thin layer of foam padding sandwiched between the headliner and the roof. When you’re spraying adhesive onto the foam padding that’s deteriorating it’s similar to spraying it onto dirt! It won’t stick! Plus this adhesive bleeds through the headliner.

Did this on my car but I guess I did it very badly because it looks so bad now, there are some spots where I guess I put to much glue and it’s a little wet on the headliner and there are some areas where there are some spots or stuff against the headliner and it’s not smooth at all, it’s very rough, any tips to fix
@Johnny53kgb-nsa10 ай бұрын
Will the adhesive bleed thru the fabric? Thank you, John
@Assimilator70210 ай бұрын
No. It dries very quickly so there’s no bleed through. Also there’s a layer of foam between the headliner and the fabric. If your foam is rotted you should just replace the entire piece of fabric which is attached to a thin layer of foam.
@Daveunruh8 ай бұрын
Congratulations. You’ve just introduced new glue to decayed foam that won’t last for 2 weeks, and ha e guaranteed you’ll need a new board to rebuild the headliner. That board can’t be used again now. Just do it right the first time, unless you just don’t care about your car.
@ExtremeRecluse11 ай бұрын
Don't do this. Thefabric will fall down again. You must remove the old glue if this is to work.

I do headliners for a living, this is the worst way to ‘fix’ a headliner. I’ve had to deal with this ‘easy cheap fix’ way too many times to count when the rest of the headliner falls and it costs more to repair afterwards. Pulling it out, peeling, scraping, and using new headliner material and weldeood adhesive then wrap it around the back edges is the only way to do it right so it will never sag again.
@jamesmccormick4391 Жыл бұрын
Since you do this for real, and I don't want to do the wrong thing, I have a question. This video is for headliners that are falling out on their own because of age, but the headliner on my 2005 Silverado was perfect. I just got it painted, (color change, so they had to do the jambs) and after they disassembled and then reassembled the vehicle, on both drivers sides the headliner is coming off about an inch from the door. If it's that minor, and the rest of the headliner isn't coming off, is it okay to do the "easy cheap fix?"
@barnabyjones9766 Жыл бұрын
What I was thinking… but I guess if you’re in a pinch, 3m glue will patch it for a lil while
