@@WiggyWamWamWhat is rit? So how can i just let that "stain" in the cloth?
@midoriya_mumble7 ай бұрын
@@ab-tr2wq Rit is a brand of dyes that are honestly quite good. I've seen them used in cosplay a lot because I run in those circles, and have even used it myself a couple times with fantastic success. Honestly a great option for a garment colour change without paying an abhorrent amount! It can usually be found in the craft section of any place that has one, or bought online.

In the 80’s, I had a pair of white Levi’s that fit me sooo good! They were perfect! My idiot cousin threw his red Kangol in the was with my jeans unbeknownst to me! I pulled my jeans out the dryer and they were the prettiest pink but at that moment I was livid! They were so pretty I wore them out! So after about 3 wash & drys later they returned to white. No bleach. Just hot water.🤷🏾♀️

What about mildew stains? Went camping and accidentally ruined a couple shirts/pants with mildew because I left them in a bag without drying them and forgot about them until I got back 😅 some of my favorite pants and shirts too. I’ve tried bleach, baking soda and vinegar, stain removers, you name it 😭 theyre not actively mildewing anymore, just have spots leftover on them

Tbh, if it's not really that important to have it white again ASAP, just keep washing on 95°C with pre-wash for a couple more times and it will go back to white. Half detergent half soda bicarbonate each time and you should be good to go after a few washes. Personally I avoid bleach because it's a harsh chemical and it weakens the fibers, so unless it's a one time thing try avoiding bleach. Also, vinegar is quite helpful you just need to have patience. Vinegar ftw!

What are your thoughts about products like RIT dye remover to remove fabric dyes? Is it gentler on the fabric fibers than chlorine bleach?
@ianmchale7709 ай бұрын
I accidentally dyed all my sheets and towels pink. I ran them in the washing machine with chlorine bleach in the bleach slot, and while it made a considerable difference, it was definitely not 100% effective. I tried the RIT stuff you mentioned afterwards, and in my own isolated experience, it was quite effective at finishing the job. I’m not a laundry professional though, just an autistic college student who’s obsessive about laundry, so of course, don’t forget to do your own research as well. Hope this helps, happy cleaning!

Oxy detergents work really well on dyes that constantly bleed off of synthetics, perhaps because it doesn't bond easiy to other types fabrics.

I soaked a white shirt in oxy for a few days because it had some yellow spots that didn't come out after pretreat. I used a little dawn, but it was the apple green one. I hung the shirt in sunlight and it was white, but after 2 days in a window the shirt was green. I soaked it for 3 more days, changing the water every day with new oxy. And no change. I doused the shirt with Peroxide and the green instantly disappeared. The yellow stains are still there.
