I’ve never had this happen to me in the under painting but it’s happened to me several times after I’ve started blocking in. Specifically dark color. I’m so grateful for this information!

This is perfect. I saw your video yesterday. Today I woke up with a dull tree I just blocked in last night. Linseed oil works just as well as the walnut?

I switched from oils to acrylics years ago because of dull spots and also darkening of varnish after several years. Maybe it's time to revisit it and try this hint.

I use a memory foam from a mattress to wipe with. I Kept a large 4x4' section from the old topper I had throw out, and now I have more than enough to last me. It doesn't break down like a paper towel, nor does it have tiny hair or dust that pollute the painting. I also use it to rub out paint or remove paint mistakes I make with no trouble at all.
