How to fix DX12 for all games | Quick Guide

Apparently the entirety of the internet watches leStripeZ and itsJerian and thinks performance mode is their lord and savior. Windows messed up with dx12 implementation, and disabling CFG on every DX12 game helps it. CFG limits apps and games from utilizing full bandwidth, so that hackers can't crytpo mine with your stuff. That causes problems with DX12. It was found to be a problem back when some of the first DX12 titles released yet no one knows about it, mostly because again the Fortnite community is a bunch of 12 year old's who look in the sky in a creative to benchmark their "performance". Stability and lows are more important and give you more consistent FPS, even in harder to run situations. I run 240 FPS end game with an RX 580. I stutter with performance mode, and I would be fine with performance mode if it was DX12. DX12 renders 75% MORE primitives than performance mode, yet out performs it because dx11 is just not as good of a rendering API.

Dude I'm stoked that I found this but let me just mention what I went through to try to fix my broken computer before finally figuring this out ... Replaced liquid metal and GPU TIM. Bought a beefy cooling pad. Flashed a higher wattage VBIOS. DDU all the drivers... After all that still didn't work... So I clean installed windows and did all of those steps again. Optimized the system and tried a million different combinations of every optimization because I figured there was a "magic combination." Now with this easy 3 seconds fix games are smooth again lol wtf. Thanks though bro.

Dx12 allows cpu and gpu to use more bandwidth, and cfg limits how much bandwidth there is, doing this gets rid of that cap

Yet you also said it harms Dx11 performance, and it doesn't make sense how disabling a feature that would then allow for full bandwidth would harm Dx11 performance as it sounds like something that could only help, limiting bandwidth is typically associated with slower performance.

@@Hybred disabling cfg on your pc as a hole will cause tons of apps and other games to have memory overflows and stacking issues, but dx12 is meant to use a lot of bandwidth and has a manager built into the api

Does this also resolve issues with screen flickering or crashing? Ever since the new chapter launched I've had regular full system crashes without any error or crash report. It just always randomly starts flickering and sometimes then freezes and crashes my entire pc during loading screens only. I really don't know what to do anymore, I've reinstalled drivers, updated bios, repaired c++ files, everything i found on the internet about game crashing and nothing changed. I've had this issue with my previous graphics card and my new one as well, so I'm almost sure it can't be driver related. My assumption now is that dx12 might be broken. I often have similar flickering with other games as well, but tabbing out of the game and back in usually fixes it. I've had crashes related to this flickering in Overwatch and The Forest, while the flickering itself also appeared in cyberpunk, battlefield and cod. In some other games it never appears though. I think these problems started when i got my ultrawide monitor.

Sorry for late reply, whats your power supply and specs? It sounds like your game isnt fully tabbed in which is weird but happens if you get a new monitor sometimes, it could be clicking into another monitor, or your resolution isnt correct.

@@powerfitz_ I've found the cause of the issue by now. It has to do with compatibility of my amd graphics card and freesync with my new gsync monitor. Turning freesync off in Fortnite fixed the issue. I might try this again soon because i haven't played Fortnite in a while and AMD said they fixed a similar sounding issue with some of their driver updates

Will this help with instant crashes when launching a game? I don’t have stuttering or performance issues on MW2 (probably because my pc is overkill and brute-forcing past the stutters), but games like battlefield 2042 and Gears 5 (DX12) will instantly crash when opening them. I had suspicions this was due to easy anti cheat, but an EAC game like hell let loose will run no problem.

@@powerfitz_ Yes I’ve done that utilizing DDU, but to no avail (that is typically how I install new drivers anyways). I’ve read that 40-series GPU’s have trouble launching certain games, via the nvidia driver feedback forums, so I may be SOL when it comes to running those games. @@sawyerschroeder6147 So what fixed it for me was disabling my cpu and Ram overclock (13900KS @ 5.8Mhz/ 32GB @ 8000Mhz). Perhaps it could work with the Ram overclock only, but I am running a 7800Mhz XMP profile kit already, so I would only meet a point of diminishing returns of random instability if I attempted to do so. And a super hot system of course. It’s literally only a 4fps difference according to MWII as well. I would try updating your bios and/or see if there’s any drivers “missing” (the yellow exclamation mark icon) in your windows device manager.

Jesus H. Christ. This fixed it for me. I have a new Alienware with RTX 4090. I've been falling back. to DX11 in Fortnite cause DX12 plus max settings would be choppy as hell. After this fix, I'm getting 110 - 120 fps at 4k res with max settings/50 3D or about 70fps with 100% 3D. No glitching at all.

Of course if you disable a security feature you will be vulnerable to this specific attack, do it only if you need and if you see performance improvements in a specific DirecX12 game.

I have a Ryzen 5600x with NVIDIA 3060ti and always had the same problem, when I try to play games with directX 12 they run poorly or they crash instantly. Battlefield 1 and V crashes when I switch to directX 12, FIFA 23 too. The problem is that FIFA23 doesn't have an option to run it with directX 11, so I'm trying to solve what the hell is going on. please can anyone tell me if this method will work Assassins Creed Odyssey? I know the game runs on Direct X 11, but now it only loads the logo and nothing more, I do have Direct X 12 on my laptop and before hand, I had no problem playing the game until about a month ago and ubisoft support is not help at all, and they close my open cases without even helping me, and that I bought the game from Steam not the Ubisoft Store even when I try compatibly modes and before I didn't need to use a compatibility mode it still only loads the logo, my laptop is also set my pc to my Nividia Graphics card which is 1050 Ti and I met all the requirements to play the game I have a windows 10 home edition intel core i5 8th gen and my laptop is all up to date. The only thing I haven't done is that of uninstalling then reinstalling Assassins Creed Odyssey form both my Steam and Ubisoft accounts oh and does any know how to relink Steam back to Ubisoft? I by mistake un-linked my steam account from my ubisoft connect account and now I can't re-link it back please any help is very much appreciated I would really like to be able to start playing Assassins Creed Odyssey again it's one of my favorite games to play. I even added Assassins Creed Odyssey to windows defender under the tab ( Add an exclusion to Windows Security ) and let the app through my firewall ect.. but the only thing being launched is game's the logo and with my mouse spinning in a blue circle and Ialso don't get any error messages either.

They figure out what the problem is, in dx12’s case its not having the correct bandwidth that it should, and people who knew the security feature and what it does tried to disable it and see if it worked and it did

@@powerfitz_ interesting, i tried this fix and it made it a little bit better, but im still getting frame drops down to 30fps with low settings at 1080p... and I have a 4090. its using like 15% of the gpu at all times. And in game im getting like 200 fps.... ive tried everything

Yes, amds architecture works better on dx12 than dx11, for newer gpus its about the same because of dx11 optimizations, but dx12 is still better

For me Talos 2 doesnt wanna start telling me that DX12 isnt supported even tho when i run dxruntime it tells me it supports up to 12_0 (appearently thats the min requirement so it should work) so im going to try this next. I guess if nothing works i can try forcing it to run on dx11

@@michagrill9432 dx12 is technically dx12 fl 12_1, that gpu can play games like fortnite or other older dx12 games that dont have it set up, but I dont think you can on that game

For me rdr2 will not work with dx12 only Vulkan.. and vulkan has micro stutter so I really want to try dx12 because it’s supposed to be more stable.. so I’ll try this later mate thank you
