I just bought a s60 from 2007 yesterday. Testdrove is, no messages on display. Bought the car, and 30 minutes I got the message ENGINE SYSTEM SERVICE REQUIRED, thought I was scammed by the dealer. Went back to the dealer and he said its no problem, the car just needs new maintenance after 10.000 km, and they will reset it. I wasnt really sure if that was true. But this video gave me assurance its not a big deal, will try this tomorrow if possible on a s60. Otherwise I will wait till I completed the 10K. The car drives smooth, but I really felt unfomcortable having that message. Thanks for the information.

i feel ya man. Bought my S80, was no message like that, had other problems. spend 2k on repairs included oil change, already felt scammed. When i picked up drove for 30min, Boom "Engine service required" i thought i'll get a heart attack.

The other day this message came up and stayed up on my 2009 D5 (which has a real dipstick), barely one week after my trusty indy garage did a service. First time I'd ever seen it. I note from others that code 079 can mean a few things; it might not be coincidence that the job included flushing thick sludge out of the cooling system and replacing the oil cooler.... Anyway I'm not going to destroy the evidence by clearing the message as you suggest, but thanks to you I know how to start the conversation when i take the car back in! Cheers.😀

Someone overfilled my 2009 xc70 D5 185. We got the engine service message and I elicited a 097 code. I siphoned put oil until it was halfway up the dipstick. Nothing I try removes the 097 code and now it throws up 021 as well. Quite odd so I Will give it to a garage to look at. Thanks for making the video however👏🏻

Genius! Mine had exact same code daily just after service. So I’ll get them to remove a bit? Was stressing a bit. But know it’s had full service history with everything done as necessary.

I read that the V70 should only have 5.6ltrs of oil added after an oil change although the Volvo book says 6.6ltrs. After every oil change at a garage the System Service Required message comes up. So I bought a cheap suction pump from Amazon & extracted 1 ltr oil & then reset the dashboard . Message gone.

I’ve had this since April. It went off after a long hard drive. Went off again after NCT (MOT). On again today. A Volvo specialist told me most likely airflow meter? Could be anything else? Car drives fine.

These models have a technician dipstick (if you don't fit the after market one). Its small one where you fitted the after market one, That can be used to remove the oil, no need to drain oil from the sump plug

I might be wrong, but I think when oil is diluted with fuel, You may replace oil not just drain a bit, as it’s loosing viscosity right?

Check the dipstick, it’s possible the oil may still be contaminated and could have risen :)

As said, there is an issue on these Euro 5 d5 with oil level. Extra diesel is injected into combustion chamber so that it is blown out exhaust to dpf as part of regen process. To get it hotter and burn out the soot. Normal. However, diesel can run down cylinder walls, past piston rings and into the sump, causing the oil level to rise. Left unchecked engine can starting running off the engine oil. So volvo made a change and that instead of filling to full, only fill to half full on a service. My issue that I never really understood was that - was the electronic dipstick recalibrated so that half full showed as full? Whilst the technician dipstick always showed half full. I did ask the Volvo dealer after a service and all the said was they accurately measure the oil volume they put back in. To be fair in time I had my V70 d5 205 it was always serviced by Volvo (1 years free roadside assistance for doing so) and never got this error.

I have the message on an 02 s80 T6. First time I've seen it. I have a small oil leak but dip stick keeps goes up to the top every time I check. I check daily. Its been this way for 5 days. I don't know what the code is. It's an older model than this 2009.

I replaced radiator iny 3008s60 and changed the oil but he didn't change the filter when he starts it up on theotninhs it cuts off like it not getting gas bit he can restart it and hold down on the gas pedal and keeps it around 3000 rpm for a min or so and let's off the gas it takes right off

If there is no manual dipstick then remove the technicians short dipstick and extract the oil that way. Easier than via the sump plug.

Not always this is the issue. I have exactly the same message and 079 code on, but when I drained my oil still stayed the same. I connected then to vida and came up as an OIl pressure Control Solenoid Circuit. General Electrical Failures. Circuit short to battery. I have been told to start with replacing oil pressure sensor in first, but there is no guarantee that this will be the right issue. Could be the wire problem, but I don't really know how to check it.

It will be a wire at the front of the engine behind the radiator, it is relatively easy to get to!

@@gdunst7 no unfortunately not... I took it back to the garage and they did something with the oil sensor which cleared for a bit, but then it came back. Nothing seems to be wrong with the car and starts and drives fine every time. I think it might be the oil they put in volvo and a haynes manual recommend 0w30 a5b5 and the garage put 5w40 in and with this engine being so sensitive I think it's that. I changed the oil myself and put a5b5 in and never had that problem so it has to be that

If your dipstick is showing slightly over full with a warm engine, then you definitely have too much oil in the engine.

My Volvo V70 55 Plate Engine Service light won't reset: I have Put the Trip Button in and set the Key position to Number One; There is a Bleep sound that is herd and also the Headlights Flash which tells me that it has been Reset: But sadly this is not the case!! The Service light comes back on straight away: I have tried to reset it Multiple Times But it won't reset: There also is an issue where there appears to be no Acceleration when going up a Not so steep Gradient There also when Applying the Accelerator right down the Rev Counter fluctuates as the engine splutters: The Revs won't go beyond the three where then the Needle shifts to the 1 Position and then Goes Back to three position where it repeats its self; When driving on Level ground the Engine sounds Normal where the speed in sixth Gear goes up to 80 MPH when the Throttle is Pushed all the way Down; I sounds as if it is Having excess Diesel Fuel which is Flooding the Engine? When I slowly lift up My Foot from off the Accelerator to middle position the engine does not reduce speed and stays at the Level three on the Rev counter This Car has had a Brand new DPF and also a DPF Sensor : This was due to the Old DPF Being clogged with soot: I was told to Give the Car a long run so as to Burn off the Soot 100 Miles Later the Engine was at its Best and was driving at full power; But then the Clutch Failed: I Had a New Clutch Fitted and the first day I drove the Car; and although it had a complete Service the Service Light would come on ; it would go off when I Flipped the switch on the indicator Unit but would come back on when I stopped and restarted the Engine! Now Once again the Engine is Playing up, Doing the exact thing as it was doing when the DPF was Clogged up. There is no warning Light like last time telling me that the DPF was Sooty the only thing is with the Service Light that won't reset I was told by the Garage to Put some Diesel fuel Cleaner into the Tank I repeatedly did this to No avail; The issue could be a Partially Blocked fuel line or being starved of airflow so called Mechanics Can't come up with the right solution Please can anyone make a suggestion I know that she's an old Girl I have spent 900 pounds sterling on her and would Hate to say goodbye
