I have a V60.. But the battery reset procedure without any tools is this and I've used it a few times and confirmed with VIDA it works 1 - Turn lights on 2 - Press rear fog lights button 6 times 3 - Press hazards 3 times 4 - Battery indicator should Flash and then go out There is a KZbin video showing this. But I find the text instructions quicker to understand

Why not recharge the battery using a CTEK charger? Can keep all your car batteries in top condition.

My battery on my D5 XC70 is nearly 12 years old. It's original. I trickle charge it if I don't use the car for weeks, it hasn't got weak or doesn't struggle in cold.

My 2007 V70 has the battery in the trunk and I believe thats the superior placement for a lead acid battery. The key word being temperature. The battery is in a more stable environment back there. Also zero corrosion on the contacts. The last one was an off brand cheapo and it lasted 8 years until failure according to manufactured date.

Just did my 2015 today. Mine did not have the long bolt holding the clamp and the battery box was very tight. Access was very difficult until I figured out that the front of the battery box was a removable panel. Costco had a good AGM battery under $200.

0:03 I had a 2008 Volvo XC70 with all-wheel-drive and a 3.2 Litre in-line six non-turbo. When I replaced my battery, there was extra length in the battery compartment, so I did some research and picked out an AGM battery that was long enough to fill up the entire compartment so I had more capacity. Have you looked into this? Thanks!

Observation. i replaced battery on my XC70 09 after it suddenly died on me, and i was confused as to why there is only one mounting bracket, but i see that you also have only one (the bracket down by the side of battery) seeing you also only have one, i guess thats good enough :) Second thing, i am noticing, my battery is flipped 180 compared to yours, i have the connectors on the the inwards side, towards the engine, red cable connecting in front, black in the back. Length of my cables doesnt suggest it could be flipped other way around, even the vent connector is on the back, interesting how they flipped it around at some point. This weekend i will be attempting to diagnose/fix messed up drivers power window. Doesnt close entirely down (stays sticking out of the door about 5cm but can be easily pushed down, then it doesnt close up entirely, stops about 10cm off top, and moves by another 5cm on aditional button press, twice to close completely) cant wait to go trough the hassle of taking the door pannels apart :)

Doesn't the volvo have a second 12v battery hidden somewhere that might also age or do i remember incorrectly? (nevermind: i think it's only newer models with telemetrics and mobile connection)

Changed mine to a 95Ah AGM ~7-8 years ago, seems to hold up well so far (probably about 150000km so far). All I do is charge it from time to time during the winter, and maybe a few times during the summer. I do cover more miles than you though, which keeps the battery charged and healthy. But as usual, an informative and good video 😁

99% of EVs still use such an old fashioned 12V battery. In most cars the battery still is the number one cause of problems / brakedowns. Although according to JD Power now software and doorhandles are even more problematic. "Progress" 🙂

"old fashioned 12V battery." They are cheap, safe and reliable thats the key reason why they are used in so many places. They can deliver A LOT of current too. Also 12v, 24v are such standardized voltages it would be more wotk to re-engineer systems towards lithium batteries. Long term LiFePo will tahe over though.

Same 30772221 battery on my S40 and I think it shows some signs of weakness after 7 years (2016-2023) and some -25 Celcius in Quebec. Since I'm working at home, I don't have to worry too much about the age, but I do have a new replacement in my basement!

Good job, just changed the two batteries on my S&S 2012 S80 last week as well. My main battery dated back to oct. 2019 and was stuck to a SoC of 63%. My secondary battery was from 2012, toasted. I discovered an unprotected pass through behind it allowing me to finally wire my OEM front wide angle camera. I would recommend to anyone owing a P3 to check whether they have unprotected holes behind the secondary battery as my yellow interior insulant behind was pretty dark compared to other locations. I would see mold developing easily on humid climates if left open like that. The job is admittedly easier when you did not mount the S60 R Design strut brace. Now, I won't make the same mistakes, I will keep them charged using my Ctek charger all the time. Adding equipments such as dashcam and CarPlay module for Sensus does not help. The latter fires up each time I start the car now, so that solves another issue! And I was able to get rid of an Airbag message on the dome light panel as well. So many benefits from just changing the batteries.

The battery in my 850 would die every four years. This was due to it being exposed to the heat of the engine and the cold outside temperature in winter. On my V70 P2 the battery was in the rear and protected from the extremes of temperature change and it lasted 13 years. I still have it on the floor of my garage to power the occasional 12v tool.

Hi, have a quick question about brakes and transmission. Yesterday I took my brakes to be done by a local guy and instead of pulling the slider pins, he took the two bolts out of the top that holds the caliper together to replace the pads and rotors. He put it back together, but I tried to tell him that’s not how you remove the brake caliper. Should I be concern now? Brakes seem fine, but wonder if I should look for something. Second question is noticed some fluid around the drive shaft coming out of the driver’s side of the transmission. Lower part of transmission housing looked like it had fluid on it, and some on the drive shaft. Does that mean I have a seal leaking?
@volvosweden

Ideally you want to check the slider pins. But it’s not the end of the world. Most likely seals are leaking. What mileage?

Volvos supplier do make pretty damn good batteries I am a Chrysler tech and the supplier that makes our batteries for cars on the assembly line are the absolute worst. Occasionally you get a brand new car that will sit on the sales lot for about a week and already the battery will be flat. Meanwhile I used to have a 2013 s60 that made it to 150k miles until the motor died but It still had the original battery and I never had to jumpstart that car ever.
