It's really nice to hear someone explain the issues with flashing while having a transmitter connected. I was having trouble flashing my ESC on my HM X12 board and thought something was wrong and had one ESC act like it died. I did what you suggested and now it seems to be back! Thanks!

@@pauleverettguitar1568 so I initially flashed to 48khz and was having issues with the motors spinning up, but after flashing back to 24khz with the ignore checkbox checked it worked. Reading a bit more about it the jump to 48khz might need more startup power and idle speed to get the motors to actually spin up.

@@pauleverettguitar1568 Lower is generally more power and higher is better efficiency so its a tradeoff. 24khz is pretty common though in micros as the default AFAIK

This is a great video. It's nice to see a video with an extremely helpful tip on an issue I'm sure has happened to many. Little tips like this go a long way in this hobby. Flashing an FC with the wrong target is troublesome and annoying. I've done it, because the spec sheet I had labeled the wrong target. I've heard the FatShark/WalkSnail have an issue, "power interruption" during update will brick goggles and another reviewer went through an intense and invasive procedure to unbrick his goggles. Thank-you for making this video it helps many resolve issues and learn something. I suspect if many people took the time to read a manual they might know of this issue. (ha ha ha who reads manuals.) Great tip. Very helpful and extremely useful. Thank-You

Yes, sharing knowledge like this is really helpful and appreciated. I know I wasted hours trying to get an iFlight FC into DFU mode to flash BF 4.3. It turns out I had to disconnect the receiver and the GPS. It refused to go into DFU if they were powered up. Probably a noob mistake, but I didn't know.

Interesting... perhaps the extra power draw from those components were preventing the board from going into DFU mode. So many random and unknown pitfalls in FPV!

I exactly had this issue yesterday and searched for a solution and found this thank you soo much albert. Some esc's do have 3 pads for flashing the esc with arduino. Maybe this helps aswell

@@AlbertKimTV Unfortunately this didn't work for my problem. I have the BetaFPV F4 1S Brushless Flight Controller V2.2. The Betaflight firmware is for the 4.1.0 MATEKF411RX and the ESCs had BLHeli_S 16.5 for O-H-5. I was trying to update the ECS to the latest BlueJay build using esc configurator but during the update process I heard the windows disconnect tone. I gave it 30 minutes but the the site wasn't responding. I can read all 4 ESCs as BLHeli_S 16.5 but when I try to update the ESCs, each ESC plays the first 3 startup tones for 5-6 times and then the site freezes. I have tried using all of the different standalone ESC apps but get Error: cmd_DevicePageErase ACK_D_GENERAL_ERROR at recvCallback. Powering up with a battery plays the tones normally but the Meteor65 won't arm but I can spin up the motors manually. I've tried resetting Betaflight and rebinding the Meteor but no luck. I'm either going to try Oscar Liang's C2 interface flash or just bite the bullet and buy a new board.

FWIW I've had this happen on a serial ELRS receiver as well. This was on a stock Baby Ape, which I tried to repair by separating controller/esc boards (in order to gain access to the C2 pins), and low level flashing the ESCs (and failed as I pulled the pads trying the solder to them). I tried your suggestion, but ESC1 still doesn't show up. I get failures trying to read ESC1 when I click "read settings". I checked the "Ignore MCU layout" option and tried to flash all, but I still don't see it. Oh well, it was worth a shot...back to the parts bin, or time to build a micro tricopter ;)

Thanks for the tip Albert! Related to this 1S FC from Betafpv. Did you have problems with yaw movement? Apparently if connected to usb or battery the gyro gets damaged and yaw sensor no longer works. There is a workaround published by Mr. Shutterbug, but it seems is only good first time before powering the board. I wonder if the gyro yaw can be unbricked.

Hey Albert, I recently flashed my Meteor 85 ELRS (w flysky rx added) to BlueJay firmware on 96KHZ. I did this today and motor 3 would not spin up afterwards. Flashed bk to BL Heli S but would like to try again. Any ideas what I could have missed ?
