How to Fix External Hard Drive Not Showing Up

Same issue with me... Mine is a Seagate 2TB Hard Disk which worked perfectly fine and had stored around 100 GB of media but now it's not readable all of a sudden... Formatting the disk is not an option for me

If you guys are on the shitter just like me (harddrive does not even show up on Disk Management on another computer) you might still be able to save the data by opening/break gently the harddisk case and insert it into a harddisk USB docking station. It might just be that the harddisk controller has been fried, but that the disk itself is fine.

I am 75 and I am learning so much. Also I feel like I am channeling my father's interests. In the late 40's he became a radio and television technician for RCA. In the fifties he tried to explain to me the base two electronic base for computers....he bought a Heath Kit to demonstrate that. Funny when he got old he had no use for social media , emails and gaming but my mother jumped in with two feet. Yesterday I extracted 5 hard drives from old computers and one hard drive was not loading properly.

I have an external hard drive (internal hdd in an enclosure). I dropped it while it was switched off and unplugged the other week. Since then it has been working OK. Now, today, it isn't working. When I plug it in and go to My Computer, the green loading bar at the top is continuously there. If I right click on the hard drive (now called "Local Disk" then Windows Explorer will crash. It is like the hard drive is making everything hang. I try and run SeaTools or HDTune whilst HDD plugged in but nothing happens (something is blocking??) but when I unplug the hdd immediately both programs will open. I can't use these programs because of this problem, as when I plug it back in it wont find it. When I go into Computer Management and click Disk Management, It does nothing and just says Connecting to virtual Disk Service at the bottom.. But when I unplug it then it opens and shows me my C drive. I cannot also use chdisk because when I am in cmd and i type T: to change to that hard drive, it will hang (nothing happens). Please help mee

Yeah the same thing here I was using my laptop and it was heating and my ele-gate external hard drive disappear when I plug it in again it makes noise and the lights turn on but does not show up I think it's due to the cable or the green thing where you plug. Hi! I did the step at 2:29 and now my external hard drive doesn't have an error message and "the device is properly working". However it still doesn't appear in "This PC". The disk does appear in disk mgmt but it doesn't have the same right click options that you have in 3:16. 1:55 - upon opening this window, it tells me i need to initalize the disk with MBR or GPT, clicking either just says "Incorrect Function". Help?? More info: My hard drive wasn't doing this before. my pc experiences frequent crashes and after one of them it just decided to stop recognizing my external hard drive, which is defined through the F: path. Hello Michael. My hard drive is not showing in File Explorer but shows under Device Manager and Disk Management. However, the drive has a red arrow pointing down in the latter and shows uninitialised and unallocated on the left and right respectively. When I right-click in the unallocated space, every option but Properties is greyed out. When I right click on the small tab adjacent to it, the first option, Initialise, is also greyed out. Only an option called Offline is visible and accessible.

How would you repair disk 6 that was in your video? My issue is more like disk 6 it has a drive letter but it says No Media...

thank you so much for this informative video but unfortunately non of the above mentioned methods worked, my external hard disk didn't show at all in the disk management window. i was told that the mini port on my hard drive might be broken, are there other ways to fix it...? thank you

HI Thanks for your excellent video! i do have to ask i just bought a new WD 2tb external drive it seems to work fine but after being plugged in for hours my laptop will randomly stop recognising the drive? i have tried another usb cable and the driver is up to date but this still happens even using other usb ports? any ideas? Thanks
