here's my tight-budget haircare routine and I hope it's useful. I minimize washing my hair to only 1-2 times per week. I only wash my hair at night to avoid blow drying so that when I wake up, my hair is tamed as I sleep in a loose low ponytail using a scrunchy or non-rubber hairtie. Before I wash my hair, I drown it with coconut oil around 15min before I step into the shower. When showering, I only use conditioners and the one I've been using recently is the Pantene 3 Minute Miracle conditioner and it works like omg even on the first wash (so give it a try). I do shampoo my hair but that's like every 2-3 weeks and when I do shampoo, I apply it only on my top scalp after I apply my conditioner. I leave in the conditioner while shampooing btw. Then I go about my normal shower routine only to rinse out my hair last WITH COLD WATER. I don't squeeze the products out of my hair when showering. I just let the water flow and I do rub my scalp to get most of the products out. When drying my hair, I squeeze my hair with a towel I couple of times (I don't rub my hair) then I wrap it with my towel. After I do my skincare routine, I unwrapped my hair and apply any kind of leave in conditioner with coconut oil. I use 2 quarter sized amount each for the leave-in conditioner and coconut oil and I only focus on the ends. then I tie it in a loose low ponytail for it to dry. hope these tips help :)

Olaplex, huge!!! thumbs up!!! I hope you got the #3 at home weekly treatment and use it. It really helps keep the bonds from breaking (more). Unfortunately, most of the other products you're using to "fix" your damaged hair are full of silicones (including that expensive Redken shampoo, along with sulfates) so you NEED that Neutrogena! Silicones won't fix damage, they can't. What they can do and will do is mask damage. Until you totally clarify your hair and take a look at your clarified, unconditioned hair and see what your hair really looks and feels like. Personally suggest clarifying, pure (edible) coconut oil treatments, argan oil treatments, keep up with stand-alone Olaplex treatments, co-wash! - you should only need to use a clarifying shampoo about once or twice a month, get your hands on Shea Moisture products if you can. No sulfates, no silicones, just all all good natural healthy ingredients. Please stay away from OGX (organix). There's good reasons why they're now called ogx - there's absolutely nothing organic about any of their products. If you need a protein treatment (and most of us do sooner or later who love to lighten and color), get it done professionally. Ask questions, make sure the stylist knows what he or she is doing and what they're using as the post-treatment moisturizing conditioner. If they'll let you and all they have is silicone filled, bring your own Shea Moisture rinse out conditioner or even one of the Shea hair masques and let it set for 10 to 20 minutes. Your hair should feel like butter. And far better than sulfates and silicones.

My hair dresser told me that protein acts like glue for the hair and oil just weighs it down. So for damage always protein over oil.

Thank you! You gave us great information. I learned a lot. I take hair vitamins also and they really help. It's good to work on your hair from the inside too. I'm going to try some of the products you mentioned. I use coconut oil along with Argon oil. I made my own potion. That works very well. You do have to wash it out the next day but it does help your hair. Try it once.

Coconut oil works wonders. I have very fine hair as well. Just put it on 4-5 hours before bleach. Leave it in and trust me it would prevent breakage by 60-70%. Its like a cheaper diy version of olaplex. And then, you can get Olaplex 3 which is much more cheaper than number 1 and 2 and put back some of the lost keratin after the bleach.

If you put oils in the Microwave the radiation will destroy the nutrients of the oils, even if you put the oil in microwave for one second, oil will be exposed to that radiation, therefore you will be applying a dead oil on your hair..

Kayla, creme lighteners and coconut oil don't mix. I'll agree with you there. But if you're using a good bleach powder and 20vol cream developer, yes absolutely do a treatment with pure, edible (get at the supermarket) coconut oil for a minimum of 2 hours pre-lightening. The lightening solution most certainly will work through the oil. I always oil before lightening or oxidative toning (Wella). Use either coconut oil or pure argan oil - usually overnight. My results have been consistent. No banding, no "blotchiness" and completely even.
@mzmiz0

You shouldn't microwave any oils. It kills the good in the oil. Coconut oil melts at 74 degrees F. Put some oil from the jar if the oil's hardened in a small bowl. Set that bowl in a larger one with hot water. Give it a few minutes and it'll melt. Or just put a spoonful in your hands and it'll start melting almost immediately.

as another person with fine hair, what you should perhaps be doing with your coconut oil is using it as a hot oil mask. Heat the oil (rather than just warming it up in your hands before applying) then apply all through the hair ( I like to massage it into my scalp until its absorbing then thoroughly coat my ends by pretty much dipping it in the hot oil). leave it for a few hours or wrap your hair up and sleep in it, then wash out in the morning. it makes an instant difference for damaged fine hair.

So another great video. I love the fact that you are down to earth and listen to the comments. So I wanted to add, that all of these products, no matter how much you switch up or back will build up in your hair and pretty soon you will notice that you are back to the dried hair look. You should use a clarifying shampoo depending on how much product you are putting into your hair at least once every 2 weeks. The best clarifying shampoo i use is by Rusk. You only need less than a dime and it will take out all of the product which has built up in your hair. I buy the trial size at CVS because it is less expensive and you really do not need that much. I have tried others Ion Clarifying shampoo by Sallys. I felt it just did not reach the mark. Make sure any clarifying shampoos do not have sulfates. The best advice I can give you is to buy silk pillow cases. They sell them at sally's for about $8.00 and they are worth every penny. When your hair rubs against even the most expensive cotton it will still pull. The satin pillow cases have a zipper to go over your pillow case and you can wash them as needed. Your hair will thank you in the morning. Thanks for all of the comments below; you know much more than I do so I do read them.

I loooove coconut oil!! I have really really fine hair as well but drenching my hair in coconut oil before washing my hair has reaallly saved my hair. Sometimes I leave it on overnight and it still washes right off, leaving no residue using my normal shampoo and conditioner. I would never use it in freshly washed hair, or leave the house with it in my hair because then my hair becomes visibly oily.

i got olaplex treatment and it actually worked really really well. i still have split ends, but it makes your hair so much stronger and softer (i can actually run my fingers through it now). supposedly the longer you leave it on the better, so I asked the hair stylist if she could help me apply it, and then I could just go home with it on. I left it on overnight and my hair felt so much nicer. also i didnt have to pay for shampooing or styling. i think ill do it again in a few weeks. the only thing is im not sure if i should trim my hair in addition to gettin olaplex...

I also have very fine hair and what I liked to do is once or twice a week I drench my ends in coconut oil and go to bed. (I put a towel or an old t-shirt on my pillow) Then I wash it out the next day and it feels amazing and not greasy. My hair gets greasy so fast and I was scared to try it but I tried it and I love it. I seem to use it more in the winter because here in Wisconsin the colder months are rough. :)

You can also use oil in a different way, just 5 to 10 "drops" of it, no *more* (no more, really count the drops), spread it through your palms and put it sparingly on damp ends after washing. It functions like a serum in that way.

100% Boar bristle brushes are the BEST, they pickup and distribute the hairs natural oils which is why the hair feels smoother and they are made of the SAME Keratin Protein as your hair so, they actually smooth and polish your cuticle. Use them on Completely Dry and De-Tangled Hair and start at the root and brush small sections slowly and smoothly without tugging and it will make the hair naturally smoother, silkier and shinier.

YES! I just purchased a boar bristle brush a few days ago & I'm AMAZED at how shiny (healthy shiny, not greasy shiny) my hair is! & there's barely any hair on the brush. So glad I got one!

loreal damage balm is really good too and pretty cheap from walmart or even cvs its like $6-7 works super good for a deep conditioner and smells good too :) or aussie 3 min miracle conditioners ive tried the one specified for color and the one for making your hair 10x stronger and they both work and are like $3.25-4 at the store :) i have also used them ontop of eachother as an experiment and have loved the outcomes ;)

Hey, Jess, instead of straight coconut oil, I suggest trying fractionated coconut oil. It has all the same benefits, without the greasy residue and added weight. I have fine hair and it works wonders.I use CapriClear 100% Coconut Oil Spray, which is just fractionated coconut oil, without any other ingredients. It's a thin liquid fine enough to spray. I apply it to my hands and work it into dry hair before shampooing. I leave it in for a while, shampoo, and then follow with conditioner or a mask.

fractionated coconut oil is the dregs that are left after making true coconut oil. Fractionated coconut oil is used as a carrier oil for other oils (tea tree, etc.). It does NOT have any of the benefits of pure unrefined coconut oil.
@MissBangBiscuit
@MissBangBiscuit 8 жыл бұрын
Actually, fractionated coconut oil is an emollient found in countless shampoos, conditioners, cleansers and moisturizers. It's known as capric/caprylic triglyceride. It's not the "dregs" of coconut oil. It's a combination of the fatty acids found in coconut oil and glycerin. It's similar to extracting glycolic acid from sugar. It is an extracted active or beneficial ingredient from another source. Both coconut oil and capric/caprylic triglyceride are great because they restore moisture to hair and skin. Coconut oil is very greasy, and this fractionated version is not. It also is non sensitizing to the skin, unlike straight coconut oil which contains volatile components. Don't try to school me.

Fractionated coconut oil provides fractions of the whole oil so that its different fatty acids can be separated for specific uses. Lauric acid, a 12-carbon chain fatty acid, is often removed because of its high value for industrial and medical purposes. It's the Lauric acid that makes Coconut Oil work so well for hair and skin. www.bustle.com/articles/79196-what-is-fractionated-coconut-oil-this-version-of-the-superfood-may-not-be-your-best-option

I don't use clarifying shampoo. I just buy a $1 bottle of lemon juice, and dampen my hair with it, let it dry overnight, and just shampoo and condition my hair as normal the next day.

If you want to give your hair a break from dying it, you could always just dye it your own hair color and then let it grow out so you won't have roots

Currently in the early stages of a bleached disaster mess from trying to go black to silver (never reached my goal, more at an ashy blonde) and my hair is a DISASTER!!! Stringy fried mess... I watched your Part 1 and was about to go get the nexus split end repair but it wasn't mentioned in Part 2. Would you still recommend it or use something else?

Yes I still love the pro mend!!!! It makes my hair feel instantly better every time I use it. The redken extreme shampoo and conditioner line is also amazing when used in conjunction with the pro mend. My best advice is be patient with it - it looks months of using these products from both part 1 and part 2 until my hair felt somewhat normal again. Cut off an inch if you can. Good luck xx

thank you for the advices you give in your video. If you want to try some hair masks you can use mayonnaise (weird), eggs (gross but worth it) and olive oil, Castor oil. It helps A LOT. Green Clay is also a good product for hair (and skin) but don't let this on your hair more than 15 minutes :)

Nice channel, I had pretty heat damaged hair (it was literally just fried), And it was falling out really badly, I used Castor Oil and Coconut oil (I noticed a dramatic difference when I oil my hair with these oils, my hair was less damaged and more stronger), and also try to look for shampoo that doesn't have sulfates, fragrances , and parapens, like Calia's Shampoos and that should help :)

I just stripped color off my hair and now it's blonde but pretty dry and damaged. I can't afford big price items so could u recommend a drug store item to make it easier to brush and stay smoothe? it's pretty dry and trying to break off at the ends. thx😊

btw. I hated when that happened to my hair. it was so gummy & gross i was scared to brush it and when i actually did a little it broke off. but my is kinda ok now but it falls out still not a whole lot just some strands here & there not like before i use to have little balls of hair when it would fall out.

Hi! I just bought the AG Keratin Repair mask because I also heard others give it great reviews. I was just wondering if you condition your hair after you use it or do you just put that in and rinse it out and that's it? I'm pretty sure I'm complicating myself but I'm a bit confused!

My hair completely damaged from dying my hair 24/7 , I picked up Aussie Miracle moist , repair , reconstruction shampoo and conditioner , it's a miracle works on the hair , makes feel soft and amazing repairs dryness .. This has natural oils in it .. Which where your own hair so much damaged and loses your own natural oils you need buy this to restore it back , one wash .. Feels so good .. Second wash getting there .. So soft and healthy , few more washes and it will get there hehe :) hope that helps . Don't know if you can get where you are .. But if you can , it's a miracle . :)

Aussie is a lie like most products. Full of silicones that give the appearance of repair. But it's temporary. Over time silicones build up and prevent any moisture from getting in or out of your hair. So when you do clarify and see your hair's real condition you'll be in for an unpleasant surprise.
