How to fix false rear access open light (Tahoe)

I was ready to buy bcm. had read other posts and suggestions to unplug wire harnesses once in awhile. so I unplugged 6 plugs and plugged back in. working fine now for 4 drives. thanks for all the info, learned alot. edit. came back on today. ordered refurbished unit on e bay.

This is great! Thanks for all your work so I can choose what to do with mine. A rear ender left one or more of my cargo door sensors not making contact. I will use the free purple wire technique to fix my problem. If I were interested in turbo, I would buy one of your tee shirts just because you gave us this info. But, since I'm not, please accept a hearty One-American-helping-another thanks! (Also, for as long as I've owned this vehicle, I didn't know the back glass would open! Thanks for that, too!)

Driver door is doing , same as your rear latch could it be the same thing ?

Yes, its all controlled by the BCM Body Control module.

Was your "rear access open" on all the time? Just got me an 03 burb and the "rear access open" comes and goes. Also got the instrument cluster issues with gauges and the speedometer not working. Picked me up one of them at the salvage yard and that one didn't work even worse than the original. Got a local shop that specializes in repairing these for $99 so that's what I'm gonna do.

In the beginning the light would come on periodically. But it eventually stayed on. At that point it became a headache. I couldn't set the alarm. And the interior lights would stay on long periods of time.

@@Duwop77 So I just got in from fiddling around with it, trying different things. Being it's dark I could easily see the dome lights come on. I noticed movement would affect it coming on or going away, like shutting any door or rocking. I spent some time at the rear glass where I could always press on the glass latch and it would turn off. Upon release it would come on immediately or shortly after even without touching. Touching somewhere and creating vibration or movement and it would come on, and then pressing the glass latch would make it go off. So I kept pressure on the glass latch and tried to create vibration and movement with my other hand but could not get it to come on as long as my hand was on the glass latch. Therefore, me thinks it's in the glass latch, hopefully. I'll check into it tomorrow. Thanks for the vid btw!

Yup, based off of what your explaining I would check the hatch latch first. Its ether bad contact with the connector or a bad latch. U can unplug the latch connector and spray the contacts with carb cleaner. Whatever it is hopefully it's not too troublesome. Your very welcome.

@@Duwop77 Took the panels off and gandered at the glass latch this morning. Unplugging the sensor would eliminate the "rear access open," but I wanted to find out why and fix. There's a vertical metal rod about 4 inches that attaches to the latch and some plastic thing on the bottom which will open and close the latch. When I would wiggle ever so slightly the dome lights would come on and off as it would activate the sensor. A spring attaches from the top of the metal rod to the latch which did not have a lot of tension. It looks like the spring is the problem and should be replaced, but I was able to stretch it with some needle-nose to tighten it up which then secured the metal rod from moving when closed and activating the sensor. Performed my rigorous wiggle testing and couldn't get the sensor to activate without unlatching, so all is well now! Lucky me :)

Great video but you're backwards on grounding the pink wire. You see each of the three latch switches apply a ground connection to the pink wire when the latches are open so if any one of them is open then the light comes on. When all three latches are closed then there is no ground connection to the pink wire & the light should go off. If it does not then either the BCM is bad or the pink wire is shorted to ground somewhere between the BCM & the rear gate. If you unplug the connector at each of the three switches & the light is still on then clip the pink wire right there close to the BCM. If the light goes off then you know the pink wire is shorted to ground somewhere on the way to rear gate. If the light stays on even with pink wire clipped then you know the BCM is bad.

@@ivanjamesjensen3057 , the BCM (body control module) is mounted underneath the steering column, easy to get to, just remove the lower panel right in front of drivers knee area, as I remember it had a flat plug with a bunch of wires in a row. Find the pink one, clip it in a spot that will allow you to splice it back together if you have to. When you clip that pink wire the light should go out. If it doesn't then the BCM module probably has a fault inside it. You can leave that pink wire clipped, just put a little electric tape on the clipped ends.

Thanks I guess I'll find out, mines an 01 so the light is in its own gauge and it's bright. That's the only way I will be able to get mine to go off from saying cargo door ajar ..At least my interiors don't go on from 02 down though at the same time.

Thx ...hey is there a way to format that bcm??? I don't wanna buy another lol. Also I unplugged it after charging the car but it still died??? I thought that would fix the drain but it didn't. 2007 avalanche drains after hrs of sitting. Rear doors pop up when they wanna, dome lights stay on when driving all kinds of weird ish. I tok the fuses to the doors but still....I even examined the bcm for cracks and couldn't find any . Help mee lol thank u sir

All the issues that its having is controlled by the bcm. The doors, lights and mine had a battery drain also. After replacing the bcm. I no longer had any issues. Replacing the bcm could be the answer to your problems. Thanks for watching 😁👍

I rarely had issues starting. My issues was interior lights staying on. And occasionally the BCM would start to work. But if I was to set my alarm it would go off as soon as the BCM goes faulty. Due to it thinking the rear door was open.
