I've had flat feet since my youth which resulted in slight inward bending at the knees. I'm 39 and run alot. I used to get lots of back and knee pains. My podiatrist told me to 1. get in the habit intentionally making an arch when standing, 2. land on the front half of foot when walking/jogging, 3. wear proper fitting footwaer and good inserts. All these alterations have made a huge impact.
@ummesawdah7 жыл бұрын
Bert T. where do you get your shoe inserts? and how did it really effect your knees before? did it also effect your hips
@atroche19787 жыл бұрын
rosey saz I purchased the Dr Scholls gel inserts. They make a huge difference. My knees were in pain because while running I wasn't making and maintaining a strong postured foot arch which also led to me landing on my foot the wrong way. Never really had hip pain but alot of lower back pain.
@ummesawdah7 жыл бұрын
Oh cool thanks for the answer and figuring yourself out! I never and sadly I now have lower back,knee and ankle pain. I'll have a look into the shoe inserts. They do have quite a few
@atroche19787 жыл бұрын
rosey saz Yes they do. I tried quite a few brands throughout the years, even a custom pair from a podiatrist, and the ones that work best for me are the dr scholls. You have to find what works for you. Also as I previously stated get into the habit of intentionally arching your feet. Best of luck.

I've just ordered myself some insoles but I've heard not to depend on them and as you say -exercise the arch of your feet. But I've not figured out how to do that yet. Is it when your curl your toes up tight till the arch feels a strain? Or the towel method?

Wear the support while you are walking but when you don't need to be walking much do the exercises regularly and walk bare feet. Otherwise it will get worse. Thanks heaps for this video 😊

For those that need an actual fix. DO NOT wear arch supported shoes, supported shoes are what causes your fallen arches in the first place and it will only make it worse. Get yourself some barefoot (minimalist) shoes and only wear those. Get into it slowly because your body will be utilizing many muscles which never got used prior. I suggest you go do your own research into barefoot shoes, as well.

With your foot dig a hole in sand a foot down, use ever part of the foot to dig. In a downward motion use toes, heal to dig. To scoop use top, inner, and outter parts of foot. You will figure differnt combinations and methods on your own. If dont live near a beach. Get a plastic kids swimming pool fill with sand. Add water to sand for grip and resistance. Or just do it dry you pick. (There other elements you could strengthing your foot with mud, small pebbles, snow, beans.) Dig 3 holes with each foot, keep going till you fill a burn. From your core to your foot differnt muscles will engage during the workout. we are our own best teacher.

Really helpful, especially as I'm pregnant now and my feet are feeling doubly tired due to my relaxed ligaments. I do have the issue with knocked knees during squats, and have in fact a slightly torn mcl in my right knee. I do have knee braces, however I found my muscles getting weaker after long term use.. (after a couple of weeks). I feel that my entire lower half is off kilter, so I have to modify exercise in order to not strain myself. My question is, as I'm looking to ease back into my more rigorous exercise routine after delivery, are there more strengthening exercises and stretches I can implement post partum that would help realign my hip-knee-ankle joints?

My flat feet and knocked knees have always been my biggest insecurity, and now that I'm in my mid-30's, I'm really noticing the painful impacts it's having on the rest of my body, all the way up to my neck and shoulders. I was told I'd need either surgery or just to wear Super-Feet insoles to fix my problems. But after a few years of wearing them, and nothing's changed, I figured there had to be something I could do that wasn't as invasive and ridiculous as surgery. I'm a cheerleader and runner. When running I find that I get serious pain going from my feet all the way through my shins and up to my knees. It's not that I'm out of shape, I run regularly. But I only find the pain to increase when using a golf ball on my foot.. Also my cheer shoes don't have very good arch support for my poor arches, but I have to wear those shoes specifically. Any suggestions to help my feet when cheering?
@0217porcelain9 жыл бұрын
gracie hover these are great exercises to strengthen your arches therefore improving the discomfort up the kinetic chain as he described. if you find the golf ball painful start with the lacrosse ball or even a stiff tennis ball. This ball technique will lengthen the muscles in your feet, and decrease fascial adhesions. There is on big tendon that covers that bottom of your foot called plantar fascia the ball trick helps loosen this up. make sure when you are stretching your legs you are using a straight leg calf stretch (gastroc. muscle) as well as a bent knee calf stretch to get the underlying muscle in your calf (soleus). you can use a rolling pin (I prefer) or a foam roller to help release the tension in your calf muscles. With the type of exercises that you are doing you are may be struggling with some tibialis anterior tension as well (shin area) you can run your thumbs down the muscle tissue just to the outside of your shin (tibia) bone. Any discomfort at the front of your ankle? = tibials anterior. hopefully this helps :-)

I will definitely try some of these things out, thank you so much(:

+gracie hover there are special shoe inserts that you can put in your cheer shoes to give that arch support:) You can find some in stores, but at least in my country orthopedist can make special ones for your feet, though they can be more expensive.

Hi, I watched your videos and I liked them very much. Very useful information. Thanks. I have a few questions. My son is 13 years old. He has been playing basketball since he was 8 years old. He is a licensed player in the club. He loves basketball and wants to be a professional player in the future. He is also very successful in swimming. His feet are a little slow in basketball. He wants to increase his speed and jump. But there is a flat feet( over pronate) problem. It is not a completely flat sole, but when you lift your foot, a pit is formed and it flattens when you press the ground. As far as I've heard, there is this problem with Useyin Bolt in running and kevin durent in basketball. My question is, does this problem prevent him from running, speeding and jumping? Can this obstacle be overcome? Can he play in the professional basketball league with a flat sole? Should he use insoles that will create a foot pit in his shoes? We would be very happy if you could answer all these questions.

I know wear inosoles in my trainers when i go for a run and i think it helps... my only problem is i dont want to correct my flat feet in this way i want to do it properly!! Is there really a way to get rid of my flat feet altogether??? its really restricting me from doing sports and making me pretty depressed. Please help i would really appreciate it! :)

Could my weight be contributing to my flat feet? I've never been small and while I'm taking the steps to change that, my feet have always caused a bit of pain. I know it causes the shin splints I get during running...do you have a video for that one? :)

Totally subscribed. I didn't know my flat feet could be fixed, let alone that it did take part in my positioning of squats. Makes sense. I thought something was weak when I would do my lunges and had a hard time balancing and straightening out my knees/thighs. Thanks guy!

I got flat feet but never knew. For years not only did my feet feel sore my knees were having issues, my lower back was always hurting and I always had headaches. I finally got custom orthotics this year and man all the pain went away. However, now I'm super dependent on them. Maybe this video can help.

Is using only a golf ball instead of a lacrosse ball for the first excercise ok? And also, I believe I have flexible flat feet because I still have somewhat of an arch and no knocked knees, but would I have to keep doing this exercise after an arch forms? Or would I have to keep doing it forever? I'm 17

I'm 33 years old, I have a completely fallen arch and "duck feet" that I developed as a baby as I tried to walk like my father. Basically is there any hope for me considering I've done this for 33 years?

I too have had flat feet for all the days of my life, and I've always hated and been selfconscience about the way they looked. I have began doing these exercises daily and hopefully one day soon I'll have a beautiful and normal arch in my foot like you do. Thanks for all you're help man, -Purple Rain500.

@PurpleRain5008 жыл бұрын
Tuck I'm still working on it, I've been doing them regularly for about 7 months now and I'm beginning to see the results. Especially in my left foot, an arch is beginning to form and should be in by the summer.

I have the opposite problem I think I have a one supinated foot! when i squat, my ankle collapses outward creates a huge arch and my foot rolls to the out side putting all the pressure on the outside. could you make a video about supination/High arches?

The bottom of my feet near my arches get burning sensations in the muscle while exercising. Although I do have small arches I think it’s related to something else. Any tips or suggestions for what I might have?

I have flat feet, and use shoes with arch support everyday for my regular routine. So should i use arch support during gym workout also...???
@minorking11216 жыл бұрын
Most people don't get flat feet because they have too much arch support, generally we get arch support BECAUSE we already have flat feet.
@greyknighthoopin6 жыл бұрын
heavy doses of vitamin e during the physical therapy process helps the arches "wake up" and become strong and arched again. 3x daily dose 30 days cycle off for 3 weeks and then again .

Omg can't believe that this is possible the cause the of pelvis titlt and neck and shoulder pain. Can't believe my physios and chiropractors over looked this. So much pain my feet using golf ball especially my left foot. But it's my right side of my body that is tight my right foot more flat right hip is tight and I get pelvic pain on the right side and right shoulder is the one that gets sore and right side of neck although my left side an dleft shoulder are the tightest.

Hey Blake, is it definite that your arch needs stretching when your flat footed ? I find that when i raise my foot and put pressure through my foot i get the feeling of cramp in my arch very quickly.

i don't get it.. i have really flat feet yet my knees do not knock together...When i squat its straight down. Could my weight be affecting my feet?
@neffectmusic84844 жыл бұрын
They can never be fixed unless you have an operation. There is no exercise that can redevelop an arch. NONE

is knee video saying that squats are bad for knees (if you have flat feet) without that band? I've been doing them every day for years and I have flat feet
@valencia42158 жыл бұрын
Exercises can help to relieve pain however, it can not "fix" flat feet since pes planus (flat feet) is a result of collapsed small bones in the in and around the navicular.
