Here are some of my ideas about how and why certain foot and ankle pains occur either during the breaking in process or not. It’s not always the equipment, in fact, it's usually NOT the equipment.
Foot cramp can happen due to muscles being excessively tense for a period of time. Tension on skates is caused by incorrect technique and your weight not being on the correct part of your foot. Fix your technique and your foot cramps will disappear.

I have Seba Highs, which are notoriously tough to break in. My left medial malleolus bone was in agony. It took a combination of all these things to finally get relief: 1) Superfeet orthotic insoles for arch support to help prevent pronation. 2) Moving the wheel frames inward to correct my stance and help prevent ankle pronation. 3) Heat molding of both the plastic shell and the inner lining over pressure points. 4) Two pairs of socks - one thin and one thick. 5) EZ Fit ankle booties (similar to the ones shown in this video) to help protect the ankle, and to widen my narrow heel to prevent it from moving around inside the boot. 6) "Bunga Pads" -(gel pads from California Gel Concepts) - 2 disc-shaped pads over the tender left ankle bone, right against the skin. It still took a year for the Sebas to be completely comfortable, but they were worth the extra effort. As stated in the video, some brands just can't be worn by some people. I loved Rollerblade Twisters, but just could NOT wear them at all. :'( I almost gave up on the Sebas, but in their case, persistence, experimentation, lots of padding, and LOTS of time was the answer.

Thank you for sharing your experience and strategies. You confirm my theme which is not every foot will fit every brand and that it takes quite some time (for me it was 2 months but I skate a LOT, so this might equal 6-12 months for a once a week skater). Lots of experimentation is part of it and the patience to go with that process. Glad your feet are comfy now...

Thanks for your complete and very precise answer Julie. I had exactly the same probleme (about the bone near the bottom of the foot). And after watching this video, i know why Rollerblade Twister never felt confortable for me (after 2 years). Actually, i'm using Seba FR1 80 which are larger and since that day, i never had the same pain but without knowing why until now.

Totally agree with you! The twisters for some reason are notorious for hurting ankles. Yet they are beautiful and work quite well (when pain free). The seba Fr were the most comfortable skates I owned. Never painful (only tight initially). I’m one the hard core evo 2 now, they were fine initially but I’m getting some pressure at the internal malleolus. I’ll heat mold it again and see... otherwise, terrific skate.

Oh wow, thank you Julie for that! That's exactly what I was looking for! I have the same inline skates, Seba High Deluxe, just recently found one of the very last pair online for a decent price. I just love them, but I have the same problem with my left medial malleolus. Just yesterday I ordered a pair of ankle guards. With them and your tips I hopefully can reduce that. Are you still riding them? Happy skating and hope you are all well in these very special days - love from Germany :)

It's just amazing how with the help of the community here just within three weeks I learned much more than in the years of skating back in my teens. I am very grateful for your videos here, thank you very much, they have been a big help for me coming back! Just today I came back with pain in my left medial malleolus. Later I opened KZbin and one of the suggested videos was this video... Happy skating and hope you are all well in these very special days - love from Germany :)

Anti-pronation orthotics as stated above by Julie. Usually it is women with high arches (Supination) and guys with flat feet pronation.
@inlinefreestyle1158
@inlinefreestyle1158 4 жыл бұрын
Add shock absorbers or something to raise your heel. Have the shock absorber under your liner boot or if you can't take out the liner put it under your insole. This should raise your feet up abit so your feet isnt as flat when pressed down, which should give you more space around the sides. Speaking from experience thats how I got it to work for me. You could also try orthotic insoles but that might make your skate feel more snug

This helped I have severe pain like a burning sensation and can’t decide if it’s the skates themselves or just because I haven’t skated in so long.
@stevej.6674
@stevej.6674 4 жыл бұрын
I think that might be the same pain I used to get...you’re probably tying your skates up way too tight...and if your skates are new, they haven’t broken in to your foot shape yet making a tightly laced boot even worse. I suggest to keep your skate sessions short or regularly take breaks while you break in your (snuggly laced) skates - you will be able to skate longer and longer as they break in. If I get that burning sensation now, I know I’ve laced up just a bit to tight....otherwise I can easily do 40kms+ without any pain whatsoever. At first with my new skates, I was lucky to do 5-10 minutes without wanting to tear my skates off in pain!!!

Heat molding and adjusting frame alignment helped a lot but not 100%. But then, I eventually realized that I was putting too much downward pressure on my toes while carving around corners, and that produced a lot a fatigue around the ankles and discomfort in the arches of my feet, forcing me to stop skating after 40 or more laps. Then it all SUDDENLY went away when I simply tucked by buttocks back just a quarter of an inch (with no other changes in my low skate position), which also shifted my knee caps backwards a quarter of an inch (and more directly vertical above my toes). Accelerating around the corners now feels great, with so much more power (yet less effort) and with little or no ankle fatigue and arch pain! Wish I had learned this long ago!

Hello mate, I have the second pain problem she mention in the video and it’s so severe and giving me blisters, do you think the heat molding the frame can work?
@allanjeong
@allanjeong 3 жыл бұрын
GODBOY NJOH I don’t think heat molding will remove a specific sore spot in the boot. Instead, take a heat gun and blow it on the spot that causing discomfort. The press it out from the inside out with a pole or rod. To stop my arches from hurting, I took the wheels off the skate, then used a heat gun to heat up the outside of the boot under the inside arches on my right foot. I placed the boot upright on the floor up against a wall, stuck a rounded end of a long pole into the boot and used my body weight to push the pole slightly downward and slightly outward to press out the spot that was causing pain in my arches. It took several trials and it finally worked! I waited way too long believing that it was not possible to fix pressure spots on the arches of the boot. But I was wrong, and now I skate pain free :-)
@allanjeong

GODBOY NJOH I also keep a bottle of liquid bandaid in my skate bag to cover up any signs of a coming blister.

Soon after that I brought ankle Footies from Myfit and switched to Powerslide Next 125 (cuz my foot didnt work at all with the K2 skate) and did some heatmolting. Got to love it, no more pressure points ❤️❤️❤️

Thank you! What about foot cramps underneath? Just switched to triskates from 4-wheel inline skates and I feel like there’s more cramping/tensing under my foot. Mostly when standing on them (they release when I’m skating), and it goes away once I take the skates off. So not a repetitive bruising issue.

Even with custom molded EdgeTek speed skate boots, I had to try using EZ fits to try to eliminate sore spot on my right ankle bone but it only increased the pressure on the ankle bone. So I cut a hole at the ankle bone in my EZ fit and that helped to eliminate some of the discomfort. But in the end, EdgeTek drilled out some of the padding at the ankle and glued mole skin over the drillout hole. That still didn’t really relieve the pain. So eventually, I took a drill bit and drilled a hole straight through the padding and carbon shell (hole is hardly noticeable on the outside of the boot) and enlarged the hole on the inside half of the hole gradually until finally, no more pain! I used the same process too relieve pressure and discomfort in my inside arches by drilling a few small holes (and scraping off the padding around the holes) until the pain/discomfort was eliminated. I covered up the drilled out padding and holes with black super duck tape for a smoother inner surface. Finally, I tried skating with socks and EZFits, with EZfits no socks, with socks only, with thin socks only, and no socks and no Ez fits. With thin socks only, I finally can skate in comfort! Took me a year and a half to find the right fix. I also dab a deodorant stick onto spots directly onto my foot where ever I start to feel a sore spot coming on. I’m also doing simple exercises to strengthen my arches given that I have flat feet, I think that’s helping too. Once I have strong arches, I’m hoping that I can tie the laces tight at toes, top of foot, and at the ankles (not just at toes and ankles).

Wow amazing story and I'm glad your efforts paid off. I've always said that feet are really knobbly and weirdly shaped parts of our body and there is no skate that fits every foot and your foot should decide which brand and model you choose as it's the most important factor; comfort. Yes doughnut shaped padding is what I recommend for onto of ankle bone pressure but Ive never heard of drilling all the way through! Good to know its an option for someone with that extreme pressure. Duct tape works for Everything! Skater magic tape I call it.

Hi Asha and others with advises. The bone under the ankle bone, is killing me when wearing my Tau's which I really love to skate. But I don't fully get the advise mentioned about the donut padding around this little (huge after skating my 2019 Tau's) bone. Should I pad it up in a donut before heatmolding, or just before every time I skate them (and how's that) - or both? Tomorrow, I will try with a inside heellift and one more heatmolding session, Last time, I heatmolded, I padded up the area with tape and thick rubber straight over the bone. It somehow helped in the beginning, but at the end of my skating hours, the pain and the bone grew huge again 😣😩 Maybe a surgery to that bone can be a solution? I can also tell, that I never had any problems with this bone in my 4 year old Seba High skates. Same bone, but at my left foot, seems to handle the Tau's in a much better way. Why don't the huge companies make 2 or 3 different versions in widths, of their best selling models fx. Tau normal - Tau wide, Seba/FR High normal - Seba/FR High slim

Hi Asha, Great videos btw. I just resumed skating after almost 20 years. About 3 weeks ago I did a 15km run (using 110mm tri skate), mostly easy flat but one fast downhill and a couple of speed stretches. Now i have a pain just below my lateral malleolus. I also did some medium distance but easy runs (5-7km) meaning actual running not skating afterwards. Is there a particular cause for this type of injury?
@SkatefreshVideos
@SkatefreshVideos 3 жыл бұрын
Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. After 20 years without skating you skated 15 km? I think that was too much for a return. This pain may be caused by overuse. Ice the area 3-4 times a day (never ice directly on skin), take an anti-inflammatory pill if possible or apply anti-inflammatory gel with diclofenac. I think that will be enough but I'm not a doctor, neither is Asha. It's important for you to rest and don't skate/run until the pain is totally gone. I suggest that you go to a doctor to be diagnosed properly.

There's also a bone on the opposite side of the foot to the one you mention (at least on mine there is). It's on the outside edge, almost where the foot meets the ground and about a third of the footlength from the heel. I'm having trouble skating in Rollerblade Tempest because of it, but I will try to see if the padding trick helps.

Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. The brands/models/bones relationship depends solely on YOUR foot shape so no brand in particular can be recommended. The cushion thing is a silicone rubber piece you can buy at the pharmacy/drugstore. It comes in donut shapes, sometimes it's a piece you can scissor yourself.

Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. You mean this protuberance below the medial malleolus that Asha points at 3:44? Well, I don't think you should skate with pain. Pain is always a sign that something is wrong and some damage is being done. Sometimes when a swollen area like this is kept under pressure it turns into a callus, and other times the body over reacts and creates like an inner bump.

Hi. This is Sergio from Skatefresh Team. Didn't you try on the skates before buying them? Honestly, what I think you should do is to go to your traumatologist/orthopedist and explain the problem to them to see if there is a solution. Take the boots with you. If the arch support is not removable I'm afraid it may not have a solution, but people in orthotics shops do magic. Otherwise, I believe you will need to sell those skates and get a different pair. It's definitely not advisable to keep riding skates that do not fit you, they can really give you problems, even cause deformity.

Thanks for the video, really helpful. There are quite many videos / topics in forums about breaking in skates and most of them mention that it suppose to hurt, create pressure points, end up in blisters after first few runs but I am really not sure that it is true. I managed to really torture my feet and bones mentioned in the video started to increase in size and create even more issues. After a visit to a doc and really thorough heat molding work on my hardshell boot I manged to fix both issues and now I am sure that it is indeed in most cases just a matter of picking up the right skate. In my case even different models from same manufacturer felt totally different - in my case I was looking at Powerslide: Swell were super loose, Kaze I could not even stand straight due to massive pressure onto the mentioned bone, Megacruisers were the ones I ended up buying but those felt ok at first but after first 10 km+ runs started to create issues, had to heat-mold the boot to a point it almost melted away... Hope this info also helps others!

Yes you are right that even one brand won't feel the same in every model of skate. The Evos and Taus by power slide for example are a very snug fit and I go one size up in those models but not in others. It's really a big process of experimentation. Heal moulding is useful but I'm always scared to put my skates in an oven! I prefer "sweat heat moulding" from just skating and having hot feet do the job. But it's always discomfort for some time, even with skates that end up being the most comfortable thing forever.... In fact the video I did 2 months ago comparing Evos and Taus, the Taus felt fantastic straight from the box, mega comfy but then they started to get uncomfortable after 3-4 hours skating. This lasted 2 months and now they are divine. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Where did you get these footsies? I’m searching for something like these but all I can find are short ones or full socks. I need ones that are a bit longer in the front but don’t cover my toes because my feet are quite sensitive at the sides. I’m working with tape but that tends to fall off when I’m wearing my hockey skates. I have custom fur skates but I’m struggling with blisters in every shoe I have.

Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. The name is footies and you can find them here www.powerslide.com/MYFIT-Parts I don't think they are long enough to cover the sides as you say. There are some others like this www.inlinewarehouse.com/Unlimited_Motion_Ankle_Sleeve_w_Gel_Side_Disks/descpage-UGAD.html that are longer but they have the heel covered which could be uncomfortable depending on your shape. Anyway, have in count these supports were made for the ankle, not for the foot sides.

Ah yes, finally a vid that mentions that damn TENDON at the top of your foot...I’ve just bought speed skates and not a blister or anything OTHER than the tendon pain on my right foot...omg so painful after a few kms once it gets bruised. It helps when I ease off the laces or simply don’t use the top eyelet but then I don’t have that crucial stability I need for the low cut boots.

How do I fix pain from supination? It happens naturally with me I currently have the K2 Kinetics, but maybe I should try a different brand/type?
@SkatefreshVideos
@SkatefreshVideos 2 жыл бұрын
Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. K2 skates and soft boots in general can be fine at the beginning if you pay close attention to pronation/supination and try consciously to avoid it. But in time, they lose tightness and support so you will need to upgrade to a more responsive boot. Be careful if you are riding a second-hand model. However, even with a hard boot you can experience pronation/supination, so it's absolutely essential to tie laces up and adjust buckles properly, then to flex your knees and control the knees to keep wheels perpendicular to the floor. You will see instructions here kzbin.info/www/bejne/oH2WiHifZdVoiqM The scooter exercise helps with pronation/supination. If you have feet problems even off skates you need to wear orthotics on and off skates for extra support. Hard boots can help but as I said you really need to control this from your head.

I have been rollerblading with some old Bauer skates for more than 9 years. Two weeks ago it was my birthday and I finally had a brand new pair of skates : the Rollerblade Twister Edge 80. I did 2 sessions of 1h and oh gosh it hurt like hell exactly where you showed in the second part, the bone under the ankle bone. I am quite disappointed because this was my gift and I thought this specific rollerblade model would be very comfortable... I am not sure whether I should keep trying with these and your recommandations, or sell the rollerblades...
@SkatefreshVideos
@SkatefreshVideos 3 жыл бұрын
Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. No matter the brand it's normal that old skates you were using for years feel comfortable because you're used to them and they do lose their original support over time. Most brand new skates will feel awkward and they will need a break-in period even if they fit perfectly in terms of size, especially those with hard boots such as the Twister Edge. Asha herself changed recently from Tau to Hardcore Evo and had to adapt, even while they are not hard, but actually hybrid. That said, every person is different so it's not only the size but also the shape. In my case I can't wear Powerslide skates longer than 10 min. because of wide ankles I have. Some skates need this break-in period that may last a couple weeks where your own heat will mold the liner, in some other cases you can mold the liner and/or the boot in a special oven. The Twister Edge is NOT heat moldable, though some people have taken the risk to do it either in their kitchens or with a heat gun. I don't really recommend those methods because you can damage the skates and there's no way back. In other cases a different liner helps, for example the MyFit FatBoy is a replacement liner you could try, though you need to make sure in a store if its size/shape matches your skates. Liners are not universal. The hard boot itself will not yield. Other than that please check that you are not pronating because that can be a cause of pain in that area too.

I got FR Skates. I am getting a lot of blister, which I hate. I guess double socks will do the trick. But one thing I notice (I was formerly using Rollerblade skates) is that my FR are much weightier and feel much more rigid. It's killing my feet. And yeah, I purchased online... not much to do. Do skates expand after some days of use?
@SkatefreshVideos
@SkatefreshVideos 2 жыл бұрын
Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. It depends on the skate model. Some skates need a break-in period, others don't, others never change and stay hard forever. Blisters are usually the result of skates being a little bigger, so the back and forth motion causes them. Seba/FR skates tend to be wider than Rollerblade skates. Weight and/or stiffness depends on materials. Not all FR skates are heavy/rigid. Sometimes comfort problems can be solved by changing the liner which is the soft boot that is inside the shell. Not all skates have a replaceable liner. Sometimes the liner is built-in.

Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. Seba and FR skates are wider than Powerslide and Rollerblade. K2 are usually very comfortable but its soft boot tends to be too forgiving. CIAO....in my opinion the ankle in contact with the foot and not above the sock because it works better, the padded ankle is of no use indeed it makes things worse .... I solved the problem of the pressure on the malleolus by making a 30mm hole in correspondence with the same , it is much easier than heating the boot with the risk of damaging it.

My problem is my inside ankle, especially the right foot, directly on the ankle bone. I'm breaking in Powerslide Swell 125s. @SkatefreshVideos
@SkatefreshVideos 5 жыл бұрын
I actually forgot to mention in this video another possible cause of inner ankle pain which can be pronation. It's VERY common with people moving up to 3x125 wheels for there to be some inside edge pronation during the glide section of skating. Ask someone to film you just skating normally from behind and see if when you are gliding on just the right skate (and regrouping with the other) whether your wheels are slightly tilted onto the inside edge. This over a small amount of time can cause pain right over the ankle bone. If so then you need to consciously change your inside edge pronation for a centre edge glide and the problem will disappear. I meant to say this point in the video but forgot..... Let me know if you pronate on that foot...... I'm curious

Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. When the shape doesn't match it gives you pain right from the start even if the size is fine. And when you try on skates in a shop you actually need to have them like 15 min on your feet. It should feel snug but toes must be free and there shouldn't be pressure on the sides or ankle. Soft boot tends to yield, hard boot won't.

Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. Some skates need a break-in period, some others will never change how snug they are. This depends on the material they are made (boot and liner). In some cases pain is a consequence of bad posture that you didn't feel before because either the boots were a different type or because they were already worn out and well adapted to your feet. What model is it? If you already skated outside you will not be able to return it.

Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. The K2 Uptown is a great skate for what you want to do it. I have it myself, and I don't think the problem comes from the skate. What I believe is that you got an inflammation due to overuse, which is not uncommon with people who are coming back after a long break. Enthusiasm takes over too quickly. Take some days to rest and use the RICE treatment (Google it). Diclofenac cream will help too. Likely it will be solved soon but only resume your skating once you don't feel any trace of pain. If you keep skating in pain it will get worse. I'm pretty sure your skates are fine, the K2 Uptown is very comfortable. Once you are ready take a look at your stride, you may be pronating. Pronation can gets you in pain because you put pressure on the medial malleolus.

Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. Pain outside or inside? It could be many different things. Best way to know is to see a doctor. You may be in need of extra support for your arches, or you could have a bunion, etc. Skating a lot doesn't imply pain. However, if you have a foot wider than the other that could give you pain after some time because one skate is fine but the other is pressing the little toe.

@SkatefreshVideos
@SkatefreshVideos 3 жыл бұрын
Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. I guess you're referring to the medial malleolus which is the prominence on the inner side of the ankle, formed by the lower end of the tibia. It happened to me once and the causes vary: constant pressure. overuse, etc. Maybe you were pronating, and that causes extra pressure on the whole inner side. There's a tendon right on the medial malleolus so the pain is probably tendinitis, but I'm not a doctor. I suggest you get a doctor's appointment to make sure, but in my case it was tendinitis. Look up for RICE method for injuries in the meantime.

How to solve the part where both the ankle bone is very painful while skating?
@SkatefreshVideos
@SkatefreshVideos 3 жыл бұрын
Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. You mean both medial and lateral malleolus giving you pain at the same time? This can be caused by several factors: boot being too tight, liner being too worn out, overtraining, etc. There are tendons in the area so if they are swollen because of any of those reasons you need to rest some time before trying again. You won't see the swelling but the pain is the sign, so you need to rest until all traces of pain are gone. If you don't the tendons don't get back to normal. Depending on the skate model the liner could be replaced by a new one in case it's worn out. You also need to find the right place where the boot is adjusted firmly but not so tight to the point it causes pain. Anyway, some boots and bone shapes just don't match but you feel the pain right from the start when the skates are brand new, that means that model is not for you. For example, I tried the Powerslide Ultron once but my ankles are big so I wasn't able to stay with those more than a couple minutes. The pain was terrible. When it's just a mild discomfort then it's a matter of break-in period.

Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. Some skates just don't fit certain people. It's about the foot shape and the boot shape not matching. Sometimes pronation causes pain in that area but if you are not pronating then it's the shape. Heat moldable liners/boots adapt with use, the others don't.

I have pain on the ankle bone itself, it's impossible to skate for more than 10 mins. Do you know how to fix it? I have Rollerblade Twister Edge 3WDs. Many thanks

Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. Do you feel the pain on the inner side? That could be caused by pronation, by the boot being too tight, or by a worn out liner. There is a tendon right there, so you may probably have tendinitis. You need to rest one week or more until you don't have ANY trace of pain, icing the area several times a day every day, and applying an anti-inflammatory gel daily.

@@SkatefreshVideos Thanks Sergio. Your detailed reply is fantastic! I ended up selling the Twister Edge and bought FR FR1 310s, so much more comfortable. If people have wider feet/ankles, you can't match the quality and comfort of the FR1s. I'm so happy now :) cheers again and happy skating!

@@DashDrones Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. Right. As Asha said in this video it's all about your particular foot shape and brands/models varies a lot. Some people find FR too wide for them! Haha. So glad you are happy now.

@@SkatefreshVideos Cheers Sergio! The strange thing is I had Roces quad skates growing up, then Bauer Turbos in my teens, got rollerblade bravoblades in my late teens, then had a break. I always thought that Rollerblade were the best, so went with them again and bought the GTM110s, but the strap broke, so they're up in the attic. I then went onto K2 VO2 100 BOAs, have to say this skate is a fast, comfortable, excellent all rounder, I wore them out though. The Twisters really were disappointing from rollerblade, the whole overall build and materials (apart from the wheels and bearings) is sub-par. Total opposite of the FR1s, will definitely stick with these for a long time!

so do you rather recommend to buy skate a size bigger and fill the space with footies from the beginning on to have more choices between the skates on the market than buying tight skates of brands fit to the foot out of the box and become a nightmare after the purchase?
@SkatefreshVideos
@SkatefreshVideos 5 жыл бұрын
It depends..... For example, I know that Powerslide skates are a "snug" fit for me and others have noted the same so I usually recommend people try on Powerslide skates in their shoe size and compare with the size up. However, SEBA skates I know are too wide for my feet and I can't wear them. The 2 Rollerblade skates I've tried hurt my inner ankle in the exact same place (below the ankle bone shown in this video)...... so I think it's really important to try skates on before you buy. Not doing this highly increases the risk of having some kind of post purchase issue.

Thank you for the answer. I agree to what you say and experienced the same with SEBA. Unfortunately it led to me buying a size smaller to compensate for the width and ended up accepting a too short length. For the next skate i will definitely work with those footies in combination with a narrower boot for more freedom of my toes. I hope you are going to have a very nice time on your world tour. Stay injurefree and happy.

Thanks so much. I'm excited about the World Tour....been a dream of mine for a long long time. I can see your experiences are adding up to proper "boot wisdom". Well done. It's not easy getting the perfect skate fit thats for sure.

I always get extreme pain in the bones right below my toes on the sides of my feel. especially on the outside of my feet. I have very narrow and long feet so with the simple cheep skates that I own that is a massive problem. my skates are quite wide on my feet, I always have shoes that are too wide since my feet are just that narrow but obviously in skates it actually causes issues.
@SkatefreshVideos
@SkatefreshVideos 3 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry you have such pain. You need skates that fit you better. Powerslide brand is the most narrow fit of all the brands so Id recommend trying them on to see if they fit better. Badly fitting skates will make your feet hurt yes.

What about pain on outside edge of the foot...the bone that continues back from the little toe? Any common causes?

When you say "the bone that continues form the little toe" do you mean where some people have a 'bunion" so just above where the little toe joins the foot?

@@SkatefreshVideos no more the edge of the foot as if it has been squeezed -- im guessing its just an imperfect fit bc it gets worse and better sometimes, and about 1 min of major pain when i take off the skates. I recently bought a new skate with wider fit and theres no pain but less control
@SkatefreshVideos
@SkatefreshVideos 5 жыл бұрын
Yes the pinching feeling across the toe box means you need a wider skate. This is the hardest thing to feel for because it often only builds up after 30mins or an hour of skating, it's not immediately noticeable when you try them on. Glad you found a better fit. So important.

How about muscle ache in gastrocnemius? Is that normal? Xx
@SkatefreshVideos
@SkatefreshVideos 3 жыл бұрын
Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. Sometimes it happens to people who skate for the first time with an incorrect stride. Therefore wrong technique coupled with muscles not used to effort create cramps. The muscle does work but not really to the point of cramps. Some massages and/or stretching before and after skating can help but technique must be corrected. If the pain is not about cramps but something different instead, then a doctor appointment is advised.

Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. You mean your heel? The best thing you can do is to see a doctor, because the pain may be something not related to skating. It could be plantar fascitis or something similar. You may also need orthotics/arc support. In the meantime you can apply ice wrapped in a towel for 15 min. 2 or 3 times a day to ease the pain. The correct position for beginners is explained in this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJ-YiJyumc6Ue5Y

Can you be more precise? You left big toe, but where? The whole toe? The under part of the toe? The side of the toe next to the boot? I think if it's this last option, close to the boot then your boot is too small and it's pushing into your big toe. But pls let me know more so I can make a better assessment. Thanks

@@SkatefreshVideos the area under my big toe everytime i push and put pressure on it when i skate also when I do front manual with my left leg in front. I recently changed my skate from seba fr2 to microskate super. I think the pain is around the ball near my big toe and sometimes I try to push down my toe into a clamp position to lessen the pain.It was the first time I felt sharp pain when I hit that spot. It goes away when I stop skating but when I skate again it comes back after perhaps a kilometer. It wasn’t as painful as the first time I’ve felt it but it was still there yesterday although it is more tolerable.
