I have suffered from foot cramps. The most fun is when it cramps in the top towards your shin and then when trying to get your foot away from your leg, your foot cramps underneath towards the sole. Oh, the joy.

Will’s exercises are great. I am 72, in generally very good health, and am finding that Feldenkrais movement lessons are gentle, helping me stay supple and move much better, instead of letting stiffness contribute to my ‘age’. With these, I feel younger than ever, and they are so, so helpful! 😊 Will, you might also add some Feldenkrais to your work. They have changed my life, even though I did advanced yoga for over 15 years (I stopped yoga many years ago because it started to cause pain in my L4-5). 😊

Great video, as always. I've found that I don't get cramp in my feet when I take magnesium glycinate a while before bed (it's relaxing and can aid sleep). Before I was taking it, I kept getting cramp in my toes at night. I've found that standing as high on tiptoe as I can relieves it, whereas doing the toe flexor stretch while still in bed doesn't work, it comes back as soon as I let them go. I may have to repeat it, than it goes away for the rest of the night. I'm not negating the advice in the video, just saying what works for me when cramp does strike. Obviously it's better to follow the advice here and prevent it from happening in the first place!

I am 50+10 and ever since I down 2 glasses of water before retiring the cramps have stopped accosting me at night. It even seems to work if I forget to drink enough throughout the day. Magfos used to work as did Mg oil but they are no longer effective. Lack of salt is not an issue as my diet is meat, salt, water and animal fats. Will be adding in these exercises.

Only recently I started getting slight foot cramping. Thankfully thus far it's never gone into a full cramp. Maybe because as soon as I feel it coming (always the left foot) I immediately start flexing my foot. I just don't want it to go into a full cramp. Feels like it's coming from the ball and arch of my foot.

Ahhh I've been doing the 'before u walk' exercises... Now i can use same b4 bed - I do appreciate when u redo an exercise & explain that those same exercises help in other circumstances... Magnesium foot rub(thanks for this tip) might help more than my usual E45 - so I've ordered this. nb I agree with ur theory re:salt(wen my consultant was fitting my pacemaker I overheard him say my 'heart was v healthy' - which confused me - his later explanation was the electrics were dodgy but the pump was small n in great shape) = prescribed salt/regular cups of coffee to keep the electrics kicking... on heartwork recovery ward there was NO getting salt from any of the nurses... we do 'take things to the extreme' in trying to do our best - our poor bodies :))

Many thanks for these tips. I cope with the foot cramps, but I’ve experienced agonising cramp in my upper thigh, from groin to knees. It was SO bad I actually 🤢 🤮! I was totally doubled up and unable walk, but managed to crawl to where my hairdryer was plugged in and focussing heat on the cramping thigh eventually released the muscles. The whole episode lasted for several hours and the area was still incredibly sore the following day. Fortunately, I’ve only had two of these incredibly painful attacks and do everything possible to prevent another one! Every night, I spray my thighs with 'Magnesium Oil' as well as doing some calf stretching. Can you recommend anything specifically for the thigh area? Many thanks.

It's not just FOOT cramps, it's also LEG cramps, and the bigger the muscle, the bigger the pain. Mine seem to be caused by blood sugar problems and magnesium deficit: magnesium citrate and glycinate help me (700-1100 mg). As well as low carb diet. I once saw the comment of a man, whose cramps were gone after he stopped eating sugar.

Will, I have been walking five to ten miles daily for the past 30 years. This exercise has not stopped me from gaining 70 pounds (believe it or not, sad but true). About 25 pounds ago I noticed foot pain that has been increasing as I gain weight. Do you think a trip to the podiatrist and instep supports would help? I realize I need to lose weight but I am also menopausal and am not hopeful about that. Also, can you tell us how to select a walking shoe? My toes are crushed and stiff even though I have a inches of space between the end of my toes and the end of the shoe. Thanks so much for considering these questions?
