Thank you sooooo much for this tutorial! I was quoted a cost of $115 just to diagnose the problem and anywhere from $250-$350 for labor and parts. I fixed mine for $43 in parts and less than 5 minutes of work! Thank you again!!!

I just fixed this issue in ten minutes, without costing me a dime!!! Before you replace the switch, that the two screws off of the circuit board, that is on the switch. Pop circuit board off, and there are 4 prongs. I noticed that one of the prongs was ever so slightly bent lower that the others. So I thought, hmm I wonder if it’s no longer touching the board and making the connection. So I carefully bent it up a bit. Put together, reinstalled and BOOM! FIXED!! As a 38 year old single mom, I was pretty stoked to figure this out, without the help of a man, lol. Mine was a 2016 Ford Explorer

GREAT video, thanks! Saved a trip to the shop on my 2013 Explorer. A few tips that may help future users: 1) 7mm hex head screws on the shroud. Then to pull it apart, you have to push on the vertical face of the top half, while tugging down on the bottom half. This helps disengage the 2 locking clips that are on each side of the wheel. It helped to start the car during this step, and crank the wheel 90 degrees each direction way to expose the vertical face on each side. Do the side OPPOSITE the switch FIRST, so the wheel is out of the way when it comes time to remove the pair of Torx-10 screws that hold the switch in place. 2) To re-engage the shroud, the upper has a circular clip at the hinge point...one on each side. Make sure those seat in properly, or you'll fight with gapping, like I did ;) 3) The "Duralast" brand part I got from AutoZone has a DIFFERENT part number = SW8478 for standard wiper switch (8479 for rain sensor version). AutoZone offers a LIFETIME warranty instead of 2 years, so it was a little pricier - $70 instead of $40 - but I"m saving the receipt so I'll never have to pay for this pesky part if/when it craps out again...planning to keep this car for awhile.
