Do you have a forward head or slumped posture that you wish you could fix? If so, you will definitely want to watch this video. I’m going to show you how to fix a forward head and rounded shoulders the right way by focusing on what is really causing these problems. Here’s a hint. If you followed other posture correction videos for a forward head you likely never fixed the root of the issue and only did a temporary solution.

When trying to correct any issue in the body, it is good practice to not focus on the site of the issues when looking for the solution. Instead, you need to look for the source. For instance, when it comes to fixing the position of the head and neck you cannot just look at the muscles that surround the area for the answer to your problems.
This is especially true if you realize that the neck is just a portion of the spine. The spine is an incredibly long structure that has elements in the neck, mid back and lower back. Doing anything to a region of the spine down below is going to have repercussions on the levels above by virtue of the fact that it is one big interconnected chain.
That said, the positioning of the neck into a craned position is often the result of a compensation of the eyes to make sure we are looking straight ahead. When the thoracic spine is excessively curved below we wind up rounding forward, with our head following. This takes our eyesight line down towards the ground. The craning of the neck back to horizontal is simply a reaction to the position of the thoracic rounding and not necessarily something in need of fixing directly.
The same can be said of the lumbar spine and pelvis. If you place your pelvis into posterior tilt, you will affect the position of the thoracic spine as well. This is once again due to the connectedness of the entire spine as a whole. The key is to try and break this pattern up. You want to reverse the excessive posterior tilt and restore lost extension into the thoracic spine. When this happens, the cervical spine will often times correct itself.
To work on doing this you will want to do the exercises shown here. First, to mobilize the area of the thoracic spine that is most restricted while at the same time establishing proper pelvic position you would do the bench mobility combo demonstrated. From here, you want to hold the position for a minute which is going to provide not just mobility to the tight areas but an isometric challenge to the deep flexors of the neck which tend to get weak over time from adaptations of the faulty posture.
If you’re just beginning, one minute three times per day of the first variation is enough. If you are more advanced you can place the arms overhead for more of a thoracic mobility challenge. Finally, the most advanced can add a weight plate to the front of the head for additional neck flexor strengthening.
Finally, you want to reinforce the corrections you make with the use of a face pull overhead raise. The addition of the overhead raise helps to hit the lower traps which will restore normal positioning of the shoulders and correct the forward rounding that promotes the neck adapatations in the first place.
For a complete program that puts the science back in strength, head to the link below and check out the ATHLEAN-X Training Programs. Train like an athlete and overlook nothing in your workouts and nutrition.

4:04 prop yourself up with center of thoracic spine directly against edge of bench.(most form of contact being center of thoracic spine to bench, subsequently triceps to bench and feet to ground.) Now get into pelvic anterior tilt. Then keep head parallel to the floor. Hold for 1minute. Repeat 3 times per day. 5:03 once got that nailed, increase difficulty, extend arms side by side to your head. 5:36 increase difficulty again, wrap cloth around a weight plate, hold to fore head and slowly do simple "yes" head movents. 6:30 Do face pulls but when you reach your face, extend arms straight up and then back straight down. just a couple sets once a day.

Movere Ergo Sum Well no as a chiropractor the most effective treatment of not just forward head carriage but most ailments are correction and educating your clients to sustain that adjustment on there own. Especially when you consider such posture leads to a host of issues like diabetes as the pull on the brain stem reduces nerve supply to every organ in the body so the importance cannot be overstated. I guess it comes down to the individuals morals and ethics I for one cannot justify fixing apart of a problem and remaining silent on the others, the Irony in my experience is when you're honest and legitimately care for each person who walks through the door as if it were yourself (that is when we see breakthrough in both health and relationship) people keep coming back on their own.

I wonder how good Jeff has gotten by just having to reiterate, and refine the same types of concepts to be palatable and vaguely affect majority of his audience. Its one thing to speak with top athletes, but for the general masses is a whole different ballpark. As someone with serious back issues, just having a refresher helps more than anything. Nothing but quality content as usual.

Cristen Perret Well, he studied to become a physical therapist Worked with the NY mets and went on to do his own thing He probably went over the same old standard issues millions and millions of times on top of having to treat athletes with more intricate issues The more you do something over and over, the better you memorize and internalize it Then the more you gather info around the subject, the better you’ll get at treating stuff from outside the box while being highly efficient Jeff eat that shit for breakfast everyday, no matter he’s so good and knowledgeable at what he does

Thank you, Jesse I am one year since my last tbi. I have had 12-13 concussions from football, fooling around and in the military. I was lost for long time, till I decide no more pills from doctors. Exercise and nutrition is the correct path back to being healthy. I am 90 days off all pills from the va with a regular workout routine and meal plan. My anxiety and depression have both started to fade away. Thank you for bring this to a global platform. Not a lot of people understand the experience you went through, but I am with you, we are not alone!

Hello, Glad to read in your comment that you are feeling better after reducing meds and/or altering your diet. I haven’t had near the number of concusses, instead have been hit by a car while on my bicycle, then bucked off a spooked horse while he was running up steep trail path and rolled quite a ways down, and then rear ended by a 41’ Motorhome while I was stopped at a red light (jaws of life, temp paralysis). I’ve been off/on way too many meds over time, dealt w/chronic pain & headaches, dealt with Trigeminal Neuralgia (aka the suicide disease), and walked with a cane for years. I also said NO to brain surgery, and then found a new Primary Care Physician - Best decision ever!!! Like you, I started changing my foods then incorporating natural herbs, supplements to my diet which helped me feel physically better than almost any of the meds I was taking!!! I don’t use a cane anymore either. People are skeptical when I tell them how I recovered from most of the chronic pain I’d dealt with for about 20 years just by changing foods and diet. It’s amazing. That said, I’m still working on short term memory issues and occasional depression (2020 issues didn’t help with that). Any suggestions for improving short term memory issues? Thank YOU for serving in the Military!
