So the yellowing is just oxidation? Any chance that this process weakens the structure at all?

If I may answer that, They do about the same in a bodyshop but with power tools :) So no, it doesn't weaken the structure at all.

I wonder what the cost to restore is vs. Buying new non-genuine replacements?

It cost me $4 for sandpaper + $15 for protective film. I already had cutting compound and polish in my car cleaning stuff. Cheapest replacement front cover was $100 for 2 from overseas.
