Okay brother - I have the exact same sound you're describing and you're the only one I've found with this problem. Only difference is that my K24 is still running a stock tune. What should I be looking at for that cam control issue if it isn't in the tuning? The spool valve? The VTC gear itself? Same exact symptoms - 2-3k rpm, under very light load, it makes this horrendous rattle sound. If you step on the throttle, the sound immediately goes away.

Is yours the k20 oil pump or stock k24 oil pump?

Sorry for my late response man…. From the research I have done if it is the gear itself then it’ll make the noise on start up. Guys do take the front of the gear cover off and there’s a spring inside that they stretch and seems to work If it is between 2-3k rpm like it sounds like a oil pressure issues because as you say it’s under very light load Next thing to check would be the timing chain tensioner as it works under oil pressure too and it might not be locking at its next marker if the chain has stretched, I’ve had that happen as well, that’s why when you give it gas it goes away
