Your candid instructions are the best so far I followed. My BRUM TV LED stopped functioning at the beginning of the year. Its warranty had expired but I was referred to the company workshop in Kenya. The company charged me USD 65 to replace them. this was too much and I had the TV returned without repair. I got the New LED from a dealer at $20 and fixed it myself. Thanks so much for this useful information

Thanks for this video, Tampatec! My LG TV was exactly as on the video. I was able to follow all the steps easily. Painters tape worked great to keep the screen and the frame together. I didn't need the suction cup, since I taped the screen to the frame and I was able to remove the screen by lifting the frame. The tester and led strips from ShopJimmy worked great as well. Only negative point is I lost 3 nails by trying to unclip the frame! Then I realized a flat screw driver worked much better! Again, great video and easy to follow. I would add that it's easier when you disconnect all the electronic boards ans remove them, so you don't have to worry about damaging electronic components when you flip the TV

I used this video and part 1 to get my LG 55LB5900 apart and tested. It's definitely the LED strips. Thank you for taking the time to make and upload this video. Thankfully, I have experience with laptop repairs, including the LED screens. They are very similar except more parts are integrated because of the much smaller size. I get the part where you say that it's not that hard of a repair. It's more getting the confidence that it can actually be done. It only took me about 45 minutes to an hour to get to where the LED strips are exposed. The only thing I did different was using smaller pieces of tape only between the ribbon cables that connect the actual screen to the boards. I just didn't want to take any chances of damaging one of those connections. I ordered the parts and I'll work on removing the old strips. I figured it's as good a place as any to take a break. There wasn't anything frustrating about it. It was very straight forward and this video helped A LOT. Thank you.

I've never posted any comments on KZbin before but I recently had my 50'' Hisense tv go out. While my 2 year old was going crazy not being able to watch Peppa Pig, I bought a small tv as a temporary quick fix so I could tear the tv apart. Even though the one you're showing is a LG, it's very similar to the Hisense I'm currently working on. I was very skeptical about removing the actual tv screen as I'm aware they're very fragile but was more at ease watching you do it. Very helpful video. Appreciate the walk through and explanation of what and why or how to do what.

Hi it's Wayne from Affordable Mobile TV Repair. Very good video, and I would like at add a few thoughts. You can actually repair LED strips when the strips are out of stock. I have been repairing LED strips for 5 years and have few call backs. As long as you decrease you BL setting to 60% and update your firmware(if available), you should have no problems. This week I will be posting the procedure on how to repair LED strips on my website.

You can also plug up the TV once disassembled and use 99cent Tweezers to test each LED by touching both sides of the LED. The good LEDs won't do anything when doing this but you'll know right away when you get to the bad LED because all the lights will come on because when touching the bad LED with the Tweezers you're bypassing the bad LED forcing a Closed Circuit.

Great video Tampatec! Your youtube channel is really helpfull and inspiring! Good to see that some technicians don´t mind to share their skills and knowledge with others. Recently my LED TV Samsung UE32f5000AW went complety dark, no picture. I have seen the part 1 video, tried to follow your steps and perform the measurements but due to my lack of electronics knowledge the results were inconclusive. The T-CON test showed image with the flashlight. I have totally dissambled the tv and tried to test the backlights strips with a 9V battery, a LED and 2 probe needles. First, I removed each led strip and tested with each led of the strip individually. In all leds of all strips, the Test Led turned on (full brightness) but the led itself didn´t. With the led strip back in place on the led interface, I performed the test like you (minute 7:34), none of the stripe´s Leds turned on and the Test Led turns on 4 stripes (last 1 off) but with a diminished brightness, almost none. With this info, can you tell me which part to replace (because I´m complety on the dark...). I apologize for the long comment and I would appreciate very much if you are able to give some tips.

Question. I took my 50" LG 50UH5530-UB apart, I checked the LED's with a tester I bought. All 12 tested at 16.2V. They all lit up. I did notice the second from bottom had a voltage that jumped around a bit. I was reaching across the table, so I thought maybe I wasn't touching the terminals enough. And once I went over there, it too stabilized at 16.2V. Reassembled it. (sigh??) Tried replacing power board with part from "Encompass," LG official distributor. Turned it on, same three blinks of standby light, then off. I sent it back. I replaced the two long 450V 68uF capacitors, that had little white hairs on the legs, and a slight burn looking spot on back, with good ones. IT didn't work. So I checked voltages through the cable with tester--outside leads showed 64.8 (multiple of 16.2, in series I guess), I got the same 64.8 on the inside two, but the middle one showed a fluctuating 32.4 much like the one I initially tested. So, back to replacing those, do you think? Could it be something else--does that little harness going down the middle (not circuit boards like I've seen on a lot of videos) have developed a short? Do the LED lights sometimes work, but are they still flawed? I don't move the TV much at all, ever.

Nice repair video. Between all the labor doing surgery on a TV panel (which was never intended to be serviced), the cost of buying all the LEDs (and finding the right ones), and the risk of it failing again (because the manufacturer under-designed the back-lighting circuit) - do you find it worthwhile to do this as a business?

That depends on the size of the TV and how new it is. It would cost me $800 to replace my TV whereas I can fix it (including the voltage/backlight tester) for about $150. If I had already had the testers on hand it would be much much cheaper. That's a heck of a lot better than $800 to replace or several hundred to have it repaired. I have only 1 local tv repair place and they charge $100 just to diagnose the problem.

Good video, few notes - the white screens behind the lcd in my vizio e60 interlocked with the screen brackets, so check carefully when disass-reassemble - I dont know what tampatec uses to turn on the leds, i plugged in the tv and turned it on (lcd was disconnected) that did the trick. - shopjimmy supplied me with the leds (thanks) they were used - i - hope they have a warranty ! they did work - so on reassembly my picture was screwed up. seems there are side tabs that dont connect to anything, yet can screw up the picture. I noticed if i positioned the bad one correctly it would work. so I went to tape it in place and accidentally removed it with the tape! So running out of options (putting it back on is near impossible) I notice that row was fine, the others had issues, so on that same side i removed all the tabs... and it worked!! must be some strange grounding thing. Just wanted to share my experience, THanks tampatec for helping me restore my $800 unit! Last note - I called Vizio about getting the backlights, they gave me their tech support, who gave me shopjimmy....

will just one failed LED in a strip cause the entire screen to go dark, or would it require multiple failed LED's to cause the dark screen?
@TampaTec7 жыл бұрын
Lewis A Fergusson yes
@FlabberQuestion7 жыл бұрын
Incorrect, 1 failed LED in a strip and 53 working LEDS (from the 54 total for example) will not trigger the safe mode. You need more failed LEDS for this to happen.
@whitcwa7 жыл бұрын
I t depends on the failure mode and the TV. If an LED fails shorted, the others can stay lit. If it fails open, all the LEDs in series with it will go out. My TV has two LED circuits. One has 22 LEDs in 4 strips and the other has 33 in 6 strips. Half of the strips have 5 LEDs, and the others have 6 LEDs. If any strip is unplugged, ALL 55 LEDs go out. The ones in the intact strips blink very briefly every few seconds. My problem is an intermittent failure, so I can't tell which one of the 55 is bad. I'm going to replace them all.

Your diagnosis and step-by-step instructions were simple, understandable extremely well done. Not sure how easy it will be for me to buy parts for my LG 32" LED TV here in Bohol Province of the Philippines. The labor here is inexpensive but the parts cost may be prohibitive. May just be better to replace my 4 year old TV. Thanks for a job well done. At least I have a better understanding of the fix if I choose to repair it.

if i use that tester and insert it right into the connector from the main board going to the leds shouldnt they light up? why take the tv apart to see if your leds are working? yes i get it, you now want to see which leds are bad but to troubleshoot if you have any leds working or that you have a different problem, wouldnt this work? Thanks and awesome video.

A lot of you think this repair wasn`t worth the trouble and i agree but only because of the size of the tv. if this tv was 60 inch or larger it would be worth it because people are willing to pay $250 to $300.00 to have it repaired depending on the model and year of course.

And by doing that you make the owners and shareholders of Samsung Sony etc very happy. You have fallen into their ploy.

He probably fixed the old CRT/tube-type televisions. Back then,you didn't pitch those out, as a television was a significant portion of the household budget. All drug stores had tube testers in them.

Really? The entire repair requires nothing more than a screw driver, the cheapest soldering iron on earth. If you keep the boards on the back of the tv you can even power it on and see what lights are bad without having to buy a led light strip tester.

Great video and clear explained that brings me to one doubt. Is it possible that one led off in just one led strip may be responsible for no blacklight? Thanks.

Love the vid🔥🔥🔥 question tho. When u tested the led, u said u tested it under a load. Exactly what do that mean and how can I do it without the meter thing u used? Will a multimeter work?
