Thanks, funny you should say that...! It worked fine all afternoon, then did a 'computer needs to do updates' message, said 'please do not switch off while doing updates' then shortly afterwards went blank again. Have done the usual (turned on and off, etc), no joy. Whirring, little light on, but screen just like before we replaced the ram stick... Has it got a fault that 'blows' ram sticks? Any ideas? Thanks!

2 tips: 1. Replace "Lenovo" in your title with "Toshiba", since you're focussing on a Toshiba.. ;) 2. When plugging in your laptop to another screen, hit Windows key +P and then use the cursor down keys to switch to 'duplicate screen', 'extend', etc.. to see if you can get the other screen to come up. Thanks for the vid tho.. I'm hoping to check some things out on a Lenovo laptop within the next few days.

Sometimes computers have issues and just need to be refreshed. Not a huge deal unless it happens again. Thank you for your very good instructional video. Almost 6 months ago my Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E540 quit booting - well I couldn't see if was booting because I only get a black screen. I initially thought I had a bad drive, so I removed the SATA drive, inserted it into my BlacX Duet and it is operational. I was wondering if the problem was a display failure, but I wasn't sure how to proceed. I set the laptop aside because I had a lot on my HOME Projects. Last night I started to troubleshoot my laptop again; thus far I achieved a "GOOSE EGG"! I connected the laptop to my desktop first with a HDMI cable and then a VGA cable - both failed to display onto my Samsung monitor. However, I am not being as thorough because disassembling my laptop and reassembling it is PITA! I removed both memory sticks, swapped them into the different bays, but the same result - the laptop powers on with a black screen. I don't think the memory is bad, but if I have a spare matching memory stick I will swap it. I purchased this laptop at a pawn shop then I purchased memory to the maximum capacity: I just cannot remember if it originally had one memory stick or two memory sticks. I can hear the fan spinning. I looked at the CMOS battery and it is wrapped in electrical tape in the twisted wire cradle and connects to the MOBO: I may gingerly remove the electrical tape, replace the battery, re-tape and reinsert the male-pin plug in the MOBO.

If I connect an HDMI cable to another monitor it shows only on the second display. So I'm not quite sure about the origin of the problem and if the video is about that.
@PC_Monkey3 жыл бұрын
If your computer displays to an external monitor but will not display to its own LCD, then your most likely looking at an LCD or LCD Cable issue. 'Reseat' the cable by unplugging it from the motherboard and the LCD. Then plug it back in to insure a proper connection. If that does not help, then replace the cable. If that does not help, replace the LCD.

Dang, it's so hard to believe it but this actually worked! So, my laptop (Legion 5 pro) was working normally then all of a sudden, it completely froze, something that has never happened to me before. I tried waiting a while, but that didn't work, the screen just remained frozen. I eventually gave up and decided to force shut it down with the power-off button, but when I tried turning it back on, the screen would just not work (the keyboard was still turning on tho, the fans too). I tried every solution I could find, from draining the battery, holding the power-on button for 60 seconds, disconnecting and reconnecting the charger, trying to enter the BIOS unsuccessfully, trying to use those ctrl+ win key + shift + B keys, and it did absolutely nothing. I even disconnected and reconnected both ram stick with no luck. But I didn't think of disconnecting just one at a time, and after watching this video and doing it, I found that one of my ram sticks apparently went bad. So, thank you so much, you're a lifesafer! I literally cannot afford to take my laptop to a repair shop, but I think I should be able to replace a single ram stick. Thank you🥺

Wow I really appreciate how thorough you are in explaining things. I have this one question, my HP laptop stopped working a few years ago after we lost power one day and it was restored without a surge protector. I assumed it was junk and bought a new one.. recently I have a need for a second computer and I looked further into the old one. I first learned the LED codes of various lights.. With that info I learned the charger was bad, my new hp uses the same specification charger so I used that. Then the laptop would turn on, but no screen... so the caps lock LED blinks twice and I've read this is a BIOS issue.. Question being, do I need to reinstall the BIOS? Or could it be the battery, C Mos? OR whatever you called the battery for the BIOS lol Any help would be greatly appreciated

For a BIOS issue, I would first try a simple manual reset as seen here; kzbin.info/www/bejne/bWesY3iZbrBqotk If that fails to help, and the computer has been off for a while, its possible the CMOS battery is dead. I would then try replacing it. They are pretty cheap

Ive went through all your videos to fix the problem of the screen not coming on.. let me say this.. I would start with the hdmi before taking anything apart. Once I plugged in the hdmi to test if the lcd was bad the lcd came on. Occasionaly it still black screens though and the hdmi jump starts it somehow. Any idea why?

Top Tip when reseating RAM: While the module is out, buff up the Gold contacts with some clean photo copy/printer paper. But be careful with static damage when removing/fitting RAM....

Bro, I literally found this video because I was having trouble with my laptop, but within 35 seconds of the video when he said the screen was black or dim, I thought about the brightness and my brightness was turned all the way down that’s why my screen was black😭😭

SOLVED for me, it was Auto Brightness reduction after waking from sleep! Before trying Any-Other fix, try increasing the brightness! (Press Brightness+ or Fn and Brighness+ a few times). I thought my Lenovo was defective, but this appears to just be an overly aggressive power-saving feature that can lower brightness a "click" or two when coming out of sleep, leaving the screen completely black.

Can you access BIOS at startup and make sure that your internal HDD is set as first? It may be trying to boot off of an external device first.

cable issues it seems. They start overheating after sometimes? I might be wrong, maybe check the fans etc. Clean off dust etc

mine is working right now hence why I am typing this video. It works sometimes. Other times it will go all the way to the password screen and then the display stops working. I connected it to the tv with a HDMI cord and it worked but then I shut my laptop and the display wouldn't turn back on. The HDMI cord said that there was no more signal. It wouldn't display on the Tv anymore.

Can you use an external monitor to see better? Or sometimes if you shine a flashlight on the screen, you can see enough to navigate back to the settings and put the brightness back up

One of my Lenovo Y540 randomly turns the screen off. The only way to get it to work again is to hold the power button to turn the computer off, and then power it on again. The PC is turned on the entire time that the screen is black. While the screen is out, the power button is on, FN button on the keyboard is on, caps lock activates/deactivates etc. Everything indicates that the PC is running, but the screen randomly dies. Turning off the PC, and on again works 100% of the time. I haven't been able to find a similar case to this, so I hope there's help out there! The same thing repeats once I power on the laptop again I have tried the following: Plug out the battery and hold the power button for 30 seconds Reinstalling the PC with a fresh installation of Windows 10 Charged it all the way up to 100% power. I haven't tried disconnecting the internal battery yet, because I don't believe that excess power is the issue.

@@CHANNEL-hl8fx Your most likely looking at a motherboard issue as the signal doesnt stop. It just stops being sent to your LCD. Assuming the LCD and the LCD cable are good and not loose, its a motherboard problem.
