Man, this right here burns me up! I had just gotten my new, *USED* direct from AMAZON 49353 Black Ice Wolf with checkering on the case which came with a "custom" wobbly lid, lid gap, and a heavy green patina in the case from the previous idiot which sent it off with fuel inside... I'm not the kind of person to just replace my stuff, but that lid is lopsided without the lighter assembly being inside by a 1/16" drop as well as a 1/32" gap that just pisses the fuel out from evaporation! I can't stand using it because I can't stand the fact that I have to jump through my arse because someone else passed the buck to burn me! I think I'm about to buy another and advance the replacement so that I'm not out of a case for my fuel. It's going up in price here lately... By the way, I really like your cotton repacking video! That's really handy way of doing it the best way!

Ok, I followed his tutorial on tightening the hinge and that broke my lighter, and I was understandably pissed at this dude but this video fixed it. Thanks buddy, I apologise for thinking wrong of you because I understand now where I went wrong while tightening 8:31 the hinge.

I have a new zippo torch insert in my new zippo armor case. The lid will not fully close. I think the insert is too tall for the case. My other two zippo armor cases have same issue with my zippo torch inserts. The kids close completely on all of these with lighter fluid inserts. What is the issue and can it be fixed?

A crazy thing happened, I dropped the only Matte Black case I had with lid gap, and the lid gap was fixed for some reason. I don't recommend dropping it, but I was pretty lucky.

Next gap i find, I'm gonna try that for sure. Another extremely common peeve of mine is overbite. Seen it on brand new Zippos too. In a video, i have seen factory workers rap them on something to fix that but the exact technique wasn't clear. I've tried it myself but i can't seem to replicate their success. You got a good method?

Hello , i would like to ask about somthing , i changed my cotton in my lighter lately , when i smoke a cigaret it taste like the fuel ! And it also make me feel like my lungs is burning and make me always cough ! Before i changed the cotton. the old and dry one i couldn't experience non of that , but the fuel evaporates fast like in three days or something and the wick was like dry too , after i changed the cotton , The fuel lasts longer but like i said burning my lungs and cough , so what could be the problem cause i already stoped using it till i find a solution , what could it be ?

My first question would be are you using the same type of cotton that came with the lighter? So for example are you using the same cotton zippo uses (rayon balls), or did you just use cotton balls from the store? If you are using any sort of wicking cotton/Japanese wicking cotton then it could be that it is doing a better job at transferring fluid to the wick, that cotton is used in vapes to distribute the flavor quickly and efficiently, so it could be doing a similar thing but with the fluid. I'm not sure because I dont smoke so its just a guess, if you *arent* using Japanese wicking cotton then maybe try that because it is natural and might provide a better sensation than say zippo's rayon balls or just cotton balls. Lastly I would ask what type of fluid you are using? If you arent using zippo or ronsonal fluid then maybe try that because these lighters were initially created for smokers primarily so their fluid might be optimized for inhalation (and or diluted, which is what I think, for the same purpose) due to pure Naphtha being too harsh. If you want to completely avoid taste of fluid (because based on my understanding if you are using liquid fuel you will always taste a little fluid taste) then you will need to use butane, luckily zippo makes soft and torch flames. If you are into soft flames go either zippo or thunderbird's G insert, if you want the torch just use zippo's. Any butane fuel insert will eliminate taste from the lighter.

I didn't drop mine or treat it rough, but I guess when I was cleaning the lid and insides with a brush as it was open it caused a gap? I tried three different inserts, the original brass, a chrome finish, and one of the butane inserts as shown in the vid, all cause it not to close all the way. When there's no insert it looks fine. I've gone through the video six times now, made sure to do it exactly as you did. Problem is, my lid gap was far more pronounced after the cleaning than your demonstration case, and now it is even worse. I don't know why the hell it's not working for me. I feel like I've been lied to. I know that wasn't your intention but there seems to be a step I missed from the unclear instructions.

Update: I decided to work on it a bit tonight. The huge lid gap problem on my '37 replica Zippo I got two years ago was solved 95% of the way simply by putting the insert in and pushing it down in alignment firmly as I gently pulled it forward. It now only has the issue of leaning a bit to one side if you take the insert out. That was caused by my following this video's instructions to the letter when I should have started with my intuition and common sense. I get the uploaders passion for the product and wanting to share a gimcrack fix that worked for him. My main warning is: RESULTS VARY FROM PARTICULAR MODELS, vintages and circumstances. If this works for some, I can't call it a fluke, maybe my fix was a fluke. All I know is if one can wait to send them in to the authorized factory repair for free, that's almost always the best move (if you have several that need fixing, since shipping isn't free!)... The hinge's are surprisingly intricate little mechanisms for such a sturdy, simple build. And I didn't have a magnifying glass to prop up that could have helped me see the flaws easier. How to fix the insert if it is loosely fitted?

There is another tip related to your problem, it's useful and easy. You can cut a corner of a little plastic bag, and then put it in the bottom of the insert, covering like the half of it. That will reduce evaporation and will also make your zippo insert tighten. The bag thickness will determinate how loose or tight it will be. I hope it's useful Man.
