Execellent video. How would you go about doing the same repair, but in a wall that is fitted with dot and dab plasterboard? Thanks

@@PaintingandDecorating I just had a look again, the plaster is crumbling, there is no wood at the back it’s brickwork. What would you suggest? Knock out a square of the plaster and mount a piece off wood to the brick then filler paint then mount rail? My house was built in 1920, everything is crumbling…. Just found a joist with dry rot under floor boards … whatever next 🥴🙄😢

Why use a plug when screwing directly into wood?
@PaintingandDecorating4 жыл бұрын
Because it was better to drill out holes in the wood and fit plugs. The wood may have split otherwise. Plus it makes it better to be removed when decorating.
@rustynail2462 жыл бұрын
@@PaintingandDecorating The plugs are not designed to go into wood, it needs to expand.

What do you do if there is no wood inside the hole to pin the new wood to?what if its just a gaping hole with a substantial gap to the exterior wall,how do you fill that and make it strong enough to support bracket?

Got a similar issue but plasterboard that has been dot and dab onto the blockwork other than wack 3 inch screws through, any ideas ?? Mines already papered to so cant do holes and fill like you 👍
@PaintingandDecorating4 жыл бұрын
You can cut back the paper neatly then deal with the rest. Fill the void using pollyfilla then when dry drill filler and block if needed.
@eddiecotter72014 жыл бұрын
If its directly sitting on masonry blockwork you can drill straight into blockwork using special masonry screws,you will neef to drill a pilot hole first into blockwork say for instance 6mm in diameter using an sds drll bit and drill a little deeper than the length of the screw your using say 55mm for a 50mm screw,once the pilot holes are drilled simply screw in masonry screws using a drill on hammer setting or ideally cordless impact wrench,the screws are designed to grip concrete,brick,blockwork etc as they are screwed in leaving an unbelievably strong fix and no need for plastic plugs etc,,if the holes are really small in brackets you may have to make them a little bigger to accept masonry screws
@eddiecotter72014 жыл бұрын
The way i have described means you just have to drill very neat holes through wallpaper directly into blockwork which will be covered by brackets anyway so you dont need to start peeeling paper away etc hope this helps
@PaintingandDecorating4 жыл бұрын
@@eddiecotter7201 Read the comment it's not directly onto block. It's been dot and dab so leaving a void. The void is best being filled first.

@@PaintingandDecorating corefix do the best and strongest fixings for plasterboard they go into the block work behind the fit and dab or dry lining and then there us a metal insert tgat goes onto the plug to prevent the plasterboard from compressing.. Each plug has a huge load bearing caoacity and they are great for big TV brackets do a curtain rail shouldn't pose any problem at all. Personally I due a baton on the wall first and then screw the pole to the baton.. Never had a failure yet

Cut a big hole so you could drill two small holes? No thanks. You should have just drilled two new small holes farther away from the two bad holes, then fill the two bad holes.

Um, newbie here. And then what, get a new curtain pole of a different length? And, if you now can't find one to match, just change all your curtain rods in that room and maybe their brackets too?

apologies for my knee jerk reaction about a stage missing as I went away and looked at my hole and worked out the step of fixing the backing timber plate oversail -
