Thank you so much for this video! It was really helpful. My toyota scion’s seatbelt wouldn’t retract back in and I had no idea where to even start until I found your video.

Just what I was looking for! Although in the end I thought I'd try silicone spray lubricant on the belt and hanger, and that worked well enough (also I couldn't fit the folded/stitched end of the belt back through the slot in the reel, even with the holding pin removed).

You did it backwards! Wind the belt on to the spool LAST so it puts tension on the spring which is not tight when you first spool it into the cup...
@electronthebig29076 жыл бұрын
I think the tension is put on the spring by the action of pulling out the seatbelt to put it around the occupant? isnt it.. i am about to repair this problem as well.a out no retraction, heard the spring break free when happened. so i was watching to see if belt is reeled in or out when fixing the spring... ?
@charlesfoster5756 жыл бұрын
@@electronthebig2907 Hopefully and probably the break occurred at the center sprocket where the spring is basically just bent back on itself like the shape of the top of the numeral "1" so it can be pressed into the slot in the center winding sprocket(s). Then...WITHOUT THE BELT ATTACHED TO THE BELT SPOOL, press the small lever that releases the belt spool to turn in the direction that it would go to reel/feed the belt OUT (may require a very small opposite movement of the spool to release). Carefully turn the spool (it will try to slip in your fingers as the tention increases) in the direction that would feed the belt OUT (if it were on the spool) UNTIL IT STOPS. It will be hard to hold firmly as the spool is now wound our to the max! Hold it in place with a flat screwdriver through one of the holes in the frame so you can re-attach the belt without any twists in the belt. Once this is done you should be able to release the spool and it should reel IN the belt strongly. Voila!
