[HOW TO] Fix Noisy Leaf Springs - Install a Spring-Thing (Pretty Much Any Pickup Truck)

UPDATE: These should work on pretty much ANY pickup with leaf springs. Not just GM models. Most pickups have similar type leaf spring setups, that would allow this to be installed in a similar fashion as the video.
This video shows a way to mitigate clunking and noises from the rear leaf springs on a 2nd generation (2015-2021) Chevy Colorado or GMC Canyon. This will also work on a 2014+ Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra. This process can reduce the amount of leaf spring slap. Cheap and easy to do.

One thing I forgot to mention in the video. If your truck has a rear sway bar installed, you will need to first disconnect the end links from the bar, before you attempt jacking up the truck. Otherwise, you will not get full droop on the leaf springs, and it will be difficult for you to slide the rubber pads in between the leafs.

I noticed a squeak at just 25k miles in my 2016 Colorado. Dont usually make comments but this product simply works and easy to install. Had an annoying as hell squeaking sound coming from the front of my left rear wheel well. Knew it was the leaf spring and hinestly did not want to use a lubricant because of the attraction of dirt. Luckily I came across this video and decided to give the product a try. I was skeptical concerning this product. Dealership fixes didn't work and spring replacement was my next option. Thought I would give these a shot so ordered a set and had them installed in 15 minutes. No need to remove tires and wheels from my 2009 silverado as could reach where I needed to be without much hassle. I still doubted how something so simple would work but jumped in and started my test drive and within 20 feet I realized that this was IT!. Pulling out of driveway was usually squeaky and loud as I turned onto the roadway and continued with every turn or bump onto a new surface. There was NOTHING! Not a sound from the rear springs. It was like a brand new truck and I couldn't believe it. Give these things a try and get rid of those horrible squeaks. GREAT PRODUCT!!!!

One Thing I just found out is after installing these I was still getting a little noise. After more hunting I got a 18mm attached to 1/2 torque wrench set at 86 ft lb. and checked all frame mount bolts which was a total of 6 on my vehicle 2007 hummer h3 mainly concentrating on passenger side considering that’s where the noise was happening and like magic noise was gone! One thing to think about and in my situation I mainly drive by myself so there’s 200 more pounds on drivers side at all times and cab flex was part of the culprit! This should apply to most Chevy vehicle considering hummer h3 is based on Chevy Colorado or Canyon frame. All and all me concentrating only on leafs springs was only half of the problem. Also sprayed silicone lubricant on all rubber mount frame cushions. We’ll see how long it last but all is well from the annoying chirp I would hear at low speed small bumps which reminded me of my dads old Chevy pickups but not quite to that extreme but similar. Hope this helps someone with same issues

Just put these on my 21’ Sierra 1500 AT4. They worked as advertised, no more pooping or thumping coming from the rear end. I took it for a test drive after installation and flexed the crap out of the truck, not a single peep from the leaf springs. Just a bit of advice, when installing these using a floor jack, do not lift from the Rear Differential “Pumpkin”, it doesn’t help. The leaf springs are still compressed if you lift it from the “Pumpkin”. What I did is lift it from the rear of the bed, underneath where the hitch is located. I didn’t even lift the wheels off the ground, I just lifted it high enough to relieve the pressure from the leaf springs. Once you do that, it takes less than 20 minutes to install. Remember, always use jack stands for safety!

You absolutely need to jack up the truck. When the weight of the truck is on the springs you'll never be able to slip the rubber pads in between the leafs. Jacking up the truck allows the leafs to droop and then you can pry them open slightly to slip in the pad. Thanks for watching.

I have a 21 Silverado 2500HD and was having issues with the leaf springs. I was able to install this product on the front end of the springs but couldn’t get to the back because it was too difficult. The noise seems to have gone away but the fact that only the front end springs have them, bothers me like an unbalanced equation. Should I try again to install them in the back? Is it fine as it? Thanks for the video!

Makes sense. The heavy duty springs are much stiffer and probably a lot harder to separate. I don’t think it’s harming anything. If your noise is gone, I’d say you’re fine. Thanks for watching.
