how can you even find your nvidia graphics card in device manager if the nvidia installer said "could not find compatible graphics hardware" meaning the nvidia installer is not detecting the hardware and not even installed yet.

I have been searching for a solution to this problem for weeks and finally came across yours. Not sure how you figured this out but it worked. Very impressive!!!! One thing I might mention is after the final reboot my graphics adapter was not detected properly. So I went into Device Manager, removed it, and had it rediscovered. I have a Malibal from 2014 with an 870m (really solid card). I've been stuck on drivers from 2015 because the Nvidia installer would not recognize my video card and wouldn't let me proceed to install the driver. It's been driving me crazy for a couple years, and this video actually fixed it for me. Amazing! Side note: To disable driver signing for Windows 7 you need to actually download GPedit unless you have Pro 7 and up. Googling "how to disable driver signing Windows 7" will yield the information you need, which will involve actually downloading GPedit if you're using Windows 7 Home. It works though, 100% worth the effort.,

This helped with my issue on 11/19/2020. There is only one bar that you will change instead of three, now. I was so relieved to see that it actually worked, I almost cried. I spent five hours today trying to fix this and this video fixed it in less than five minutes. If you don’t have the file for NVIDIA in your device manager, make sure you have windows updated.

Installed the current version of NVIDIA (as of 04/11/2020) and it was not compatible on my PC. Followed your instructions though I did some tweaking and wasn't really sure if I was doing the right. In Device Manager, scroll down to Other Devices, you should find PCI Device. Use the hardware ID from that one and it will work.

Yay it worked, after hours of fixing this issue. This happened because of the 1903 update. The 1st issue was my connection 2nd my gpu. Pc can't detect GeForce 730 but it shows something like VGA compatible. Now after watching this I only changed 1 path in the notepad. After rebooting my pc detected 840m? Which is weird but I updated my gpu now it's back to normal. This guide is really helpful!

i think the reason is it will ask to restart after some checking process and for that case u need to use the advance restart again (options with shift key).. because i just experienced the same problems.. have to do it many times at first until i figured it out

Thanks dude. This was the only way to fix i could find on the internet. At least for the error "this graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware". I installed the version 397.31. I tried most recent drivers but they gave the error "this nvidia graphics driver is not compatible with this version of windows". It didnt resolve in this case cause this error didnt create a folder so theres no nvaci.inf to edit. Anyway, thank you sooo much. Working 25/03/2020

The NDIVIA folder in my pc doesn't have the nvaci.inf file. Instead there's one named nvacsi. I tried to follow the steps thru that folder. But after restarting I can't find the setup file inside the NDIVIA folder. Please help me.

Thanks. Fixed my issue. Had another section in the inf file that yours didn't have. Just copied the id on the 1st line, same as the others. Up & running now. Not a simple fix. So, I might follow, implement this procedure & work but, is it really worth it? In my case, I have a pretty decent but old laptop with the 820m GeForce graphics card. Just before I landed on this guide through, I stumbled upon a comment in the NVIDIA forum that stated that they (NVIDIA) had stopped supporting this branch of GPU. Their last compatible driver was 391.35, of which I have. So is it really worth the risk to try a newer driver on an unsupported card? Coz I don't want to screw up something that is working fine at the moment.

I had this situaction. With Win10 and GT730 card. Win10 assigned driver from 2017. I used Nvidia custom search, provided all info, but could'nt install driver because of the simptoms above as in this video. After this workaround driver installed fine, but actually my video card was still using the old driver from 2017. Then I found that Nvidia dropt support in 2018. for a list of graphic cards including my GT 730. For my GT 730 last supported driver is "GeForce Game Ready Driver | 391.35 | Windows 10 64-bit" I downloaded it and it installs without any issues and workarounds. Also after installing an checking in device manager I see that no my graphic card uses driver from 2018. So that problem may be in the fact that Nvidia droped support for those card. I just can't understand one thing - If I provide all information - Win version, grpahic card series/model corectly in Nvidia driver search page, why is it allowing to download newest driver despite the fact that it's not supporting my card :@ Disappointing experience from Nvidia.
