As I believe my drywall is only covered in primer, do you have any suggestions for removing the old primer before a new coat of primer+ paint
@JohnnyTF-ey8sjАй бұрын
I use Benjamin Moore Aura after priming my indoor dining room walls with BIN primer and a month or so later I noticed these spider web like cracks which peels off in sections. BIN primer dryer for at least over night. I can only conclude it had to be the AURA. I’ve never experienced this reaction before. Any other possible reasons you can think of?

I primed and painted and both my bathrooms did the same peeling deal. Good thing the bathrooms aren’t that big. But dang it, it sucks balls having to do it again
@brf351c10 ай бұрын
Exact same thing happen to me. how did you fix it? What type of primer did you use? I would NOT use Kilz Kitchen & Bath - it did not stick to the dry wall.
@TineEdong10 ай бұрын
@@brf351c I used a glue called peel stop over everything then primer again then paint. It was great this time!!!!! No more peeling. I think it had something to do with my drywall, I used greenboard so that could be a problem? It’s all good now!

When you say peal as much as you can are you saying peel areas that aren’t peeling too? Or just peel that one area until it’s not peeling anymore?
@DIYhomeimprovementguy3 ай бұрын
Just peel until it doesn't peel anymore. Those areas are usually bonded. the the goal is to seal those areas with the primer/peel stopper.
@jeffcook8635 Жыл бұрын
If the problem area is not the whole wall, but just where there was a small drywall patch, can I use this problem surface primer to glue the loose paint edges down past the patch border? Rather than ripping all the paint off that would otherwise bond fine?

My walls aren’t drywall they’re plaster or concrete (I’m not sure it’s an old nyc apartment). I think my issue is they just painted over oil paint with cheap water base paint. Should I use the same products?
@DIYhomeimprovementguy Жыл бұрын
they're probably plaster. Try using a bonding primer such a STIX or Sherwin Williams Extreme Bond
@logan5326 Жыл бұрын
Old buildings all over NYC were covered with plaster (facts).

Concrete would be too heavy so unless it is underground the chances of it being concrete is thin (even if it were underground it could/should have been coated with something before painted) I would have to see it

I had contractors remodel my bathroom using purple drywall. Applied Kilz kitchen and bath primer - let it dry over night - then painted with a quality paint. Next day it started to peal off like wall paper. It's brand new drywall, sanded and clean. Not sure what I did wrong.

What finish was it
@Kains_whored4 ай бұрын
I believe if if you use a flexible primer coat and then the finishing coat is flat ,, it will crack off, I believe using something like a satin finish would keep you safe ?? I’m sorry if I’m wrong I literally just learned this while watching a vid by : paint life tv Called : how to fix peeling paint.
@DIYhomeimprovementguy12 күн бұрын
It sounds really frustrating to deal with peeling paint, especially after putting in so much effort! Purple drywall has a moisture-resistant surface that can sometimes make it harder for primer or paint to stick properly. Even though you sanded and cleaned it, the surface might still be too smooth for good adhesion. A light scuff sanding with fine-grit sandpaper (around 220 grit) could help the primer grip better. Also, while Kilz Kitchen and Bath primer is great for high-moisture areas, it’s worth checking if it’s specifically compatible with purple drywall, as some primers work better on moisture-resistant surfaces. Make sure any joint compound was fully cured before priming, as new drywall can hold moisture that affects adhesion. Environmental factors like high humidity or cold temperatures during painting and drying could also play a role. To fix it, you’ll likely need to scrape off the peeling paint, sand lightly, and try a primer designed for challenging surfaces, like Zinsser BIN or Kilz Adhesion. Then repaint with thin, even coats. I hope this helps, and feel free to reach out with more questions!

I'm sure you've seen so many times when painters just paint or use a standard primer and then paint on fresh drywall. Without sealing it first, it never seems to ever get the right look to the paint. One additional step, that isn't really difficult or high cost can really pay off. Thanks for another great video!
@sockruhtease Жыл бұрын
OK, I've not seen that, and I though this lack of primer but going straight over drywall, even if you use primer is terrifying. I didn't realize people didn't seal as well

Okay I have been working on the bathroom from hell. Hasnt had a lick done to it since the day it was built in 1979. I have been through the peeling 2 times now. First time just the ceiling, second time after I used just primer on walls, I had the ceiling AND the walls to contend with. Now, I am at a blank slate again. (good grief) I have fixed all imperfections, sanded, and took a horse hair brush and swept the ceiling and walls. I put on Gardz today 8-30-2024. I am going to give it 24 hours to dry. (mainly because I have had enough today) This Gaurdz stuff stinks so make sure you have a window open. And if you spill this liquid ANYWHERE, have a washcloth ready to pick it up as it dries fast. So my question is, after Guardz I hae pirmer here and i see you say to in the video but its not like what contractors use, its "Kilz" kitchen and bath. I am praying this is what I am supposed to use AFTER the Guardz.(and then paint) I hope to hear from you. Thank you in advance. I cannot afford to get this wrong again as I will set the bathroom on fire.
