Hope this helps bring some clarity to the rolling shutter on the Pyxis. It's fixable. Is it perfect? No. But next time you watch a action movie pay attention to how much rolling shutter you see. It's not that big of an issue.

film-makers need to understand how to use a cinema camera 6k with classical 1/48 shutter and tripods, before using software re-crop. i use 14-16ms rolling shutter camera since a decade and really rarely care about jello effect. movement-camera need to be soft. That the first key-point. Maybe 25-35ms rolling shutter camera need some recrop-stabilization-and-correct-jello but, it's margin point.

I been experimenting with the gyro stabilizer on my 6k FF and notice that if Im editing footage shot on the BLazar Remus. If I put the strength to 0. It has the opposite attended effect and makes everything look like jello from any shots where Im walking with the camera But if I put it at .5 it makes everything perfect. Have you experienced that on the pyxis?

What people ignores is that you can use a 2.6K S16 mode to have around 8ms rolling shutter which is Arri territory. Also, what people ignores, is that global shutter gives an ethereal vibe that I personally DO NOTICE. The point is not the audience, because the point there is a compelling story, edit, the sensorial experience tout court. Sometimes, film-makers want what they like not what the audience feel and experience. Another point, and is here that I see the point, you can't use a 35mm and say rolling shutter is not noticeable. Try to use above 85mm. Do you guys just use 35mm, 24mm, 50mm? I often use 85mm as starting point given parallax is something I look after. Also, anamorphic is where you can see rolling shutter completely killing the image, especially above 50mm. Another issue is a consumer perspective....and consumerism. Can manufacturers give us the best of available technology avoiding pushing a camera almost every year? Implement a global shutter sensor, with serious dynamic range and a good monitor. Kill the market and we are done. No!!! Now I give you full frame sensor, then I add a factory OLPF (after 10 years being in the market), but sorry, I have to use an old and cheap sensor to make this cheap and affordable. It's all the time about quantity and not quality. Understandable from a business perspective, but not from an ethical perspective. So people keeps thinking about which camera to own avoiding investing in creativity itself, but you can't blame business company for that at all. Is just people. I own a Digital Bolex and an Ikonoskop, I wouldn't change CCD sensors for this or any camera anytime soon. I find lowlight performance and rolling shutter not nice on this camera, considering it is a 2024 camera and the technology is there, we wouldn't mind 1000 USD more to have something usable in every scenario. On the contrary, the greatest innovation for me is BMCC 6K FF monitor, that makes a difference in the way you can use a camera, benefitting the practicalities in situations where you need an easy camera for a difficult shot.

internal ND is today the only real difference between "cinema camera" and high-end hybrid + blackmagic recorder with braw. you need to stack ND filter all day long for understand why it's the main feature from "cinema camera" single-operator in 2024. variable-nd is often garbage, always not 100% reliable, for youtube and amateur stuff. Don't care about RS, it's a video-gimmick, not a cinema problem.

Good effort. I think you are wrong about regular people not noticing the rolling shutter. Normal viewers perceive this skewing… but they usually mention that the motion makes them feel nauseous. They don’t understand that it is the jello effect inducing this feeling. They simply assume it’s the motion. It’s important to note that rolling shutter impacts all footage… not just whip pans. It’s just more noticeable with whip pans. And the uncomfortable feeling it produces in motion sensitive people can make watching such footage unpleasant… and if subtle, the viewer might not even realize why they didn’t like the footage. You should try the Sony A9III… It’s a surprisingly good video camera.

Using anamorphics on an open-gate sensor amplifies the Pyxis’s "jello" effect due to its weak rolling shutter. Gyro stabilization helps, but it won’t fix stationary shots with moving objects.Great value for the price but the 12K lineup is a better all-around choice even though it's 10x the price. An in-between model would be ideal for me.
