How to Fix the Awful GMT-400 Dual Terminal Battery Cable

Today, we're going off topic while I perform a repair on the perplexing dual terminal battery battery cable setup GM decided to install on the late GMT-400 trucks.
These battery cables are notorious for backing off the battery post and losing connectivity, sometimes even while driving.
Watch as I perform a workaround to eliminate the original factory setup in order to make a more secure connection.

Very good info. I’ve never seen a fitting like that but I can definitely see a real need for it. Have you ever tried Dielectric Silicone Grease? It might keep the corrosion down on an exposed copper connection like you have there. I’ve had pretty good success with it.

Hey Rusty, it was definitely an odd choice for a battery cable design, and it makes me wonder if GM was contracturally locked in with the supplier for this setup to keep it around for so long. I'll try a little dielectric on other next time to see how that works. Thanks for the suggestion. Let me know when you're ready to get together on that L48👍.
