How to fix the center console sliding lid on W124 W126 Benz

This video is about how to fix the center console sliding lid on W124 W126 Benz. Some of these boxes look like a grenade went off in them and the small wooden pieces come off the backing.
Here is how to take it out of the car and how to disassemble the sliding mechanism. As long as you still have all the small wooden trim pieces all you will need is a good glue.

You can soften the finish on the forward edge with diluted lacquer thinner and a swab. Thanks for the tips my friend.

Thank you for the tip. I have heard of using gun stock lacquer to fix cracks. That will be something for a cold winter evening. All the best.

@@straybenzes its an old furniture restorer's trick from my youth. Lacquers as well as shellac can be lifted or even blended in this fashion. Its more difficult with any shellac finishes since its prone to bloom in moisture rich settings, but with care produces higher sheen like hand-rubbed French finishes. Lacquer is required for auto as its more likely to encounter moisture. Stay safe my friend.

Rub some bee's wax along the track part of wood trim, top and bottom should make it slide smoother. That's what I did. My 2¢
