How to FIX the Green Lantern Corps

I’ve always liked the idea of a rotating system for lanterns especially earths, I thought it would he nice to have 1 lantern with the justice league, one on Oa, one on vacation and the rest out in the sector. They would switch when their time is done (When the writers change) so every lantern gets involvement in someway Starting with Hal on earth, Guy on Oa, Jo on vacation the rest in the sector, then Hal goes on vacation, Guy with the league, John on Oa and the cycle continues in order of recruitment

I'd also have them openly ally with the Blue Lantern Corps so every Green Lantern has a Blue Lantern partner.

That would be harder to do, as blue lanterns are very few and far beetween, but perhaps one blue lantern for some of the most important planets like Earth.

Feels like it should literally be the "Old West Sheriff" model, with local enforcement but potential to deputize help if needed. You have your town, and if you need, bring on some help that you can trust.

I've always just been of the idea that a sector should just be a solar system (a son and it's planets) and 2 green lanterns would patrol that system it always just made sense to me

Maybe put the Battery on Skartaris which is located at Earth's Core but then you have the prob of dinosaurs and sorcerers trying to get to it. I also think that Corps Members should have ranks and titles and their uniforms should reflect as such.

I like your reconstruction of the Green Lantern Corps although I was wondering how would you address the emotional reservoir problem? As far as I know, lanterns killing the universe with their powers similar to how burning fossil fuels exacerbates climate change is still canon within the lore. For me personally if I was rewriting the Green Lantern Corps, I would probably recton that entirely to not existing because I never liked that detail or just diminish the problem into being a non-issue. I always headcannoned that the Guardians knew about the issue of lanterns depleting the universe of its life energy at some point and decided the best course of action was conservation where they intentionally limit the number of lanterns to preserve the universe and find a solution from there.

Maybe this can be the purpose of the White Lanterns that flew off into space at the end of New Guardians. They can hone their power, and even raise new Entities, all for the purpose of being ready for the day that the reservoir needs to be refilled. Even if it is still cannon, it won't likely be a problem again for a very long time, since the GLC operated for billions of years before the drain became too much. The other Corps rose up and became the biggest drain during the lead-up to Blackest Night, but they've all been severely diminished since then, so I don't expect the reservoir to run out again any time soon.

I got to agree with you. On all accounts it's a pretty stupid idea considering emotions are supposed to be renewable energy in all regards because it comes from people.

I like this idea of a new system for the green lantern corps, and honestly think it could work even better if other corps that work closely with them (Like the Blue lanterns) also shifted to a similar system, my first thought when hearing about the sector system problems was literally “One Lantern Per Planet, Done” but you made that much more in depth. However this does present a possible problem that could actually make a great story, what if a planet wants a Green Lantern… but just doesn’t have anyone with enough willpower to use a ring? Or any ring that would work closely with them, like Hope or Rage? What is done in a situation like that? That would be an interesting problem to see them work out.

The lanterns could do with a deputy system. Same amount of lanterns but with way more lesser lanterns on patrol. Green Ember. They have a fraction of what your standard lantern would have in terms of power but theyre still powerful enough to take down a few space pirates, most importantly though if a larger threat appears they can call in backup. Either the sectors lantern comes or a few extra Embers from the surrounding planets.

Idk i think the idea of there being too much for the lanterns to partol in it of itself can create many stories. Far flung neglected corners where something dark broods and grows. But what do I know.

this is really good, have you ever thought of doing a 'how to fix the xmen' becouse they have much the same issue. as they have a few good years, maybe get themselves a home land or at least a stable population, the homeland falls or their numbers are desolated by a cure, a war, some inexplicable catastrophe. they are reduced, scatter and then the cycle starts again. the only diffance with the most recent occurance of this happening (at the time of wrighting this) the korkoa era, is they did bring a large part of this doom on themselves by being massive douces .

Your recruitment model is flawed on the fact that not everyone can where a green lantern ring regardless of how many people vote for them. So first you should have some rings see who on th planet is worthy then have the population vote for them. This also could lead into a reserve/deputy system.

Rann & Thanagar should each have a Lantern, but they trade Lanterns. IE: The Rannian Lantern protects Thanagar, and the Thanagarian Lantern protects Rann. There would be people who HATE that idea, but the public would eventually start to see the other species differently and the Lantern protecting the planet would gain an appreciation for the idea of protecting EVERYONE, not just your own people and ideals.

Making one green lantern per planet would cause diiplomatic problem in said planet due to having multiple countries who don't see eye to eye would fight to have their citizen be a lantern

Actually wouldnt this make a much bigger corps? Two lanterns per sector wouldnt be enough for a whole sector, but, if theres like, a random number huh, 100 planets with sentient life, then theres 100 new lanterns and maybe more, this would be a much bigger corp than just +-7.2k lanterns

The idea isn't to give a Lantern to every planet with sentient life, only the planets that want one. There could be a sector with a thousand inhabited worlds and zero Lanterns.
