Very good video; I just bought a ttr230 from a sheriffs sale and the gas was bad and the carb was in bad shape. I watched one video and it was no where near as informative as yours. After taking the carb off twice I watched your video and waalaa problem solved thanks to your video. Great job!

@@MantisRacing This is an excellent tutorial The small beaks in between allowed time to see and watch again to make sure I got it right I did try this some 8 or 9 months ago, put an Allballs carby kit through. Thoroughly cleaned the carby over 3 and 4 days to remove all the 'gunk'. It worked for a little while, then refused to start. Just did it all again this afternoon. Isolated the issue to the carby only Thoroughly cleaned, every single orifice multiple times. Used some 'start ya bastard' through the air cleaner and 'viola', bike running and purring 2 things: I noticed the needle and seat were a bit sticky. A drop of oil fixed that I think i had the air mixture screw too far out, maybe 5 turns. I now have 2 1/2 and it runs smooth. (just need to charge the battery). Good news is, I was at 9v, when running 12v and under throttle, 14+ so the charge system is working. it is possible to get a right hand bend screw driver up into the air mixture screw,. It's tight, but can be done Or, you can take the carby off again Thanks for the great video and explanation. Many thanks from Australia

In almost every one of these carburetor cleaning videos, an important step is left out: Air jets. Those are the small circular air passages on the air cleaner side of the carburetor. There are very small brass air jet inserts (non-removable) that need to be clear.The air passages run thru the body of the carburetor and feed the main and pilot jet fuel circuits. These also MUST be cleaned.

Great video! Very thorough. I am waiting on a 130 and 38 jet and will be cleaning the carb and installing. I had a completely clogged Petcock when I got it and since have cleaned the carb once but did not hit all the choke areas like you showed. My bike runs great but has a little sputtering and pop in the carb on just over idle. Thinking it may be too lean and may still have some clogged areas. At speed it is great with not bogging or hesitation. Thanks for the video!
@MantisRacing
@MantisRacing 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply. I hope it helps. The cleaning made a huge difference for us. The hesitation is tunable with the fuel screw, but it will never run like an EFI bike. Our bike didn't want to start and it had this very noticeable hesitation where the power just dropped off completely. It made slow maneuvers dangerous. They're like tanks when they run right!

This is a great video! I made a similar one, but only for upgrading the jets, you definitely gave me insight in the ports that need to be inspected... It funny everything should come out great but! IF that tab on the float Boal is messed with or not adjusted correctly, that can be a real fun diagnosis to figure out! This may sound crazy but I seen people blow the holes with their mouth to ensure air is passing through "not me" LMAO

@@Papi2003Z Sometimes when I have issues like this, I pull the intake boot and spray TB cleaner directly into the carb with the blade open to ensure I have fuel in the cylinder. I close the throttle and then try it. Also, I have had luck spraying into the plastic tubes handing from the carb with TB cleaner. This method takes a little longer to get the fuel into the cylinder though.

Make sure your bowl has no old varnish on it. Also check the needle valve and the plunger on top of valve, it should move and be springy. Check O ring on inlet. Make sure your floats are ok. Adjust the center prong on float and do a float adjustment. There are videos on it. Gas ran out of my overflow at last 15 times before I got it. The clear hose test works great and is Yamaha's way to set floats.
