decades ago my grandfather used very thick high temp grease but everything was cork back then and he used aviation sealant a dark brown paint on non hardening sealant that was near impossible to wash off your hands.

I always did my SBC gaskets the same way but found the rubber gaskets seal the best without using any sealants. I always got leaks in the back corner after a while when using the cork ones. Good vid though.

Thanks! I've used rubber for a while too, but they leaked as well..so far I have luck doing it this way

Im pretty sure u made one of these video's a decade ago. Instead of gasket sinch i used 3m glue for upholstery glued valve cover side. Might try the assembly lube trick nextime

Yes I did lol I used a rubber gasket in that video, however I have had better luck with this method. Thanks for stopping by.

I've had good luck with the $20 Summit Racing brand rubber gaskets on a 650hp NA SBF. That said, it looks like we get more bolts than you get, so YMWV. My buddy's 1000+ HP supercharged SBF was always blowing oil when he had his vacuum pump off of the car. When it transitioned from race car (constant valve adjustments) to street car (hydraulic cam), he sealed them with Ultra Black which works great unless you gotta get in there. Lol.

Cool..yeah ultra black would work too..I use the assembly lube on one side so that you can take the valvecover off and on..thanks for stopping by again!

Hey Klowny!! Whats up Brother???? Hope all is well out your way! Great Idea with the assly lube, those valve covers should pop right off and not stick to the mating surface. Have not used Gasgacnich before but other guys rave about in on the forums. Will pick some up. Take care, Thanks for sharing. Cheers and blessings from Motown!

Would this application work for all other gasket like oil pan, transmission oil pan and timing cover
@klowny1969 Жыл бұрын
For those other gaskets, if they are rubber then you don't use anything (except for engine oil pan, use some rtv on the corners). If they are cork, then just use gasket sealer, no assembly lube.
