HAS ANYONE RUN INTO THIS PROBLEM?? First of all thank you so much for the video !! After replacing the lock assembly the F5 error code still showed up and the washer wouldn't work. So i took it back apart and noticed that there are 2 identical "ports" where the lock assembly connects. I initially had reconnected it to the port that the old lock assembly was attached to but i plugged it into the other port and now it works fine. Hope this helps others who may encounter the same problem!!

Very instructive video. My Cabrio washer was throwing up F5 and E3. My daughter, realizing the lid was locked in place, decided to force it up and broke the engagement system. Followed the steps in this video, including the link to the part on Amazon, and had it fixed inside of an hour. As seen but not mentioned in the video, you do need to turn off the water outlets and disconnect the hoses before removing the control panel. Thank you!

Same error here. Took a can of electrical contact cleaner to remove build up on the latch mechanism. Works fine again.

Just completed this simple repair. Did it along with pausing your video on each step! My only advice…on the T15 screws holding lock in place…PLEASE USE MANUAL DEVICE TO SCREW THEM IN! Stupid me used my small power screwdriver and snapped the plastic base that screw goes in. I did other side gently and it’s tight. So 1/2 seems to be ok as it’s working perfect again! My lady is a happy camper again!! Thank you bud for this oh so simple repair! Saved me a ton!!

I wish I read this comment before doing the repair. I had the same piece break using just a screwdriver. It doesn't need to be tightened too much, just snug. Since I also have one side loose, I was wondering if yours has kept working? I'm sure I could source the base that has the broken screw, but I'd rather not!

Hi Kurt! Yes, it held up just fine. But eventually had to replace entire washer as another problem came up and was more cost effective to replace. The splines on the agitator wheel were stripped. Way too much $ to replace as I would’ve needed a pro for that job. Wasn’t as easy a replacement as lock mechanism was.

I just completed this repair on my Kenmore 600 series and my washer works again! Great work on this one. Here are a few of my notes: 1) On the back of the washer, you only need to remove (1) 1/4" screw for the wire cover and (2) 1/4" screws to free the upper section of the unit. 2) There are 2 metal clips that hold the control panel that need to be pressed downward in order to free the housing and access the control board. They are hiding under the larger black springs. This is the only video I found on KZbin that showed the repair process for this model washer, thank you for sharing!

Great video. I got the part for $62 and it took me about at an hour to change it out. THANK YOU!! I do most of my home repair and maintenance but never have I tried appliance repair. Hell the service guy charges $90 just to show up, then hourly charge, then part. Hmm… easy $300 bill, IF he’s honest. Me not knowing better he can tell me it’s the electric motor and charge another few hundred. Then for all I know it was a $120 motor. Thanks again.

Thank you just did this repair thanks to you. Hardest part was those clips holding the display panel, they fell into the washer basin. Had to tape a magnet to a pole to fish them out. Then getting them back on was hard to figure out. That needs its own video. But thank you for your help. Saved us buying a new washer.

I ordered the discontinued Whirlpool part (via Amazon for $56) which my washer was only 2 years old--says everything about Whirlpool when they discontinue their own parts--so you either replace the unit for $600 or pay an extremely high repair bill + part! I'm trying to replace my lid locking switch via this video and I've followed you most of the way. However, for the part of the video where it shows the clips to remove the control panel, it's not showing the clips and removal very well. The video is just below what I need to see as to how you've accomplished this. Could you please show this portion a little bit better for me? I've got the harness removed from the lid and the side clips as you've shown, it's just unplugging it from inside the control panel (which needs the cover removed to access) that I'm struggling in. Other than that, this video is extremely helpful.

Just attempted this repair. At first the computerized display was acting very wonky. Slow to start. Even turned itself off and I got an F5 E1 alert. I did a reset of the control panel and now it appears to be working ok. Does the first error concern you or that’s typical and the reset should have fixed ?

I had the same issue and had to replace the lid locking switch. Evidently, the connection that the fingers glide on is either bad, loose, or corroded. Either way, I found replacing the switch was my only option. You can find the switch on Amazon for about $56. Then follow this video and your machine will gain work smoothly

If you're struggling with the clips for the display panel, push down and in on the top leg of the metal spring thing there, not the bottom leg or the center of the arch.
