It is July 2023 when I am eriting this and all I can say is thank you for saving me so much money and time. I e been wrestling with this f5 error for the past year and finally was brave enough to take the dive of fixing this problem. I cant believe its this tiny 5 cent piece. Now this thing works like a champ. For those of you who are intemidated, try not do be. It honestly took me 1/2 hour or less to go step by step. Even faster to reassemble.

I can’t thank you enough! My washer was just 2.5 yrs old when this part failed. The self diagnostic test pointed to the lock and I couldn’t believe the price for this very cheaply made part from the company (I estimate the material cost at $5). Really, given the moisture and incredibly cheap materials I don’t understand why they would do something like this. I wouldn’t have tried to repair the part myself using my auto ignition coil grease without you having blazed this trail here. It’s been two months since I did this and it’s worked flawlessly since. Thank you again, not just for saving me some money but it just feels so good to do something that most people wouldn’t attempt.

How much was the new part from the manufacturer? I’m going to attempt to fix mine this week but just incase i break those tiny metal prongs.
@walterbright1396 Жыл бұрын
@@bkhavityoway23 It was about $180 for the part. I called Maytag and they quoted me $300 for the repair. That included the wiring harness. There we’re cheaper alternatives on eBay and Amazon but I was not sure they could be made to work. Since I did the cleaning, it has gotten stuck 1 or 2 times. I just move the lock in and out 30 or 40 times and it works fine again.

Thank you so much for making this video! I have a Kenmore Elite HE 700 series washer. The repairman has been to my house literally 6 times trying to fix the lid lock. He never repaired what was wrong. All he did was change out parts. The washer would work for a few weeks then I would have the same problem again. Last night it happened again! Mind you I have a service contract but each time I call for a repair I have to pay a fee of $100.00. To keep the service contract I have to pay $69.99 per month. I could have purchased a new washer for what I have spent on this crap! I followed your instructions and repaired the lid switch, not change out a part! Now my washer is working correctly. Needless to say I am canceling the service contract! Again, thank you so much for the video!

Thank you very much for this video and fix! After some water leaked out the top when we had the washer on it's front while replacing the broken water pump (DR error), we started having the E3 F5 errors on our Whirlpool Cabrio Washer. I was thinking the water may have shorted out the lid lock mechanism somehow, and then found this video. As others have stated, it took a couple of tries (and we did use the bulb grease both times), but it finally worked after also using a hair dryer to dry out the sensor and lid lock control board. Thanks again for the great video and detailed instructions, as well as to those who commented and added their own specific details (like using the hair dryer)!

You, sir, are a Godsend. Do you know how much money you just saved me?! Hundreds! I thought I was going to have to get a new washing machine. I spent about $2.15 on a tiny packet of bulb grease from the automotive store, followed your video step by step, and it worked perfectly! The trickiest part was disassembling the actual lock mechanism. Even with the T15 screw hack, it wouldn't come undone. I used a mini flathead to pry it open, rubbed away some of the corrosion, + bulb grease, and viola! On top of that, you have the same exact model that I have. I've seen a few videos on how to repair this error, but they all require replacing the entire system. I'm so grateful. Thank you for putting this easy to follow guide together. It was still cheaper than a replacement kit 🙏🏽🙌🏾😊👍🏾❤️

thanks for the video, i really didnt want to spend money on a stupid locking mechanism. this video made it super simple to fix the problem. only thing ill add to the instructions is there is a wiring harness that connects the top to the bottom of the unit that the video doesnt discuss. so you will want to be gentle with lifting the lid up as if you let it go and it free fell behind thew washing machine, you will probably pull wires out if it. i had to position the washer in such a way i could hinge the lid/top and let it rest on the vertical wall behind the washing machine while i worked on removing the locking mechanism. once removed it had enough slack in its wire i lowered the top on top of the locking mechanisms wire so i didnt kink/damage the main wire harness anymore than necessary. also my unlocked position contact was black, significantly worse than the video. i took a utility knife and lightly scratched the surface of the contact clean, the other contact surfaces looked fine but i gave them a little scratching as well to be sure there wasnt any film on top of them.

What a great video. Our Whirlpool Cabrio quit working, and we were on deadline to get some laundry done. Might have taken weeks to wait on a service call appointment, would have taken days to get a replacement switch. I had no idea how the Cabrio came apart. You made it easy to fix the washer in about 30 minutes, no parts needed other than a packet of bulb grease (which now cost $1.69 a packet at the local auto parts store), and I had the right tools lined up before I started. Many thanks for your thorough and insightful video. I did skip the step of removing and bending the little contact prongs, but it seems it was unnecessary. Thank you again.

Mr. Petereit, Thank you for a wonderful and instructive video! You saved us ~350-400 dollars easily! One comment for anyone else with a similar locking problem. This fix didn't initially cure the F5 error on our machine. We had to turn the power on and pull the locking mechanism into the 'locked' position, then turn the machine on with the lid open. this had to be done delicately, because we hadn't fully re-assembled the top portion back to the base of the machine. This allowed the machine to appropriately 'reset' itself and know that the locking was working correctly again. Once that was done, it appears to be functioning fine!

My situation was a little different leading up to the error codes. Had to replace the pump after it started a cycle & had water in the tub. Its unbelievable how much they charge for you for sending out a repair person (for whenever the nearest one can get around to it) or they will parcel you over a few replacement parts, that'll come next week (usually something you could go get yourself today at a much lower price.) I'm no cheapo, I understand the repair person has a job to do & deserves the hard earned money, no problem. But if these machines were built with proper strong parts & done right, they would last forever (if you take proper care, obviously) right?! Did you notice the cheap plastic parts inside & all?! LoL What I'm about to say is 100% true - My Nan & Pop-Pop still have the same ol' refrigerator & freezer, the same ol' washer & dryer, & also my Pop has a classic 1930's jeep that ALL STILL RUN LIKE CHARMS (they obviously took care of all of it & did tuneups & clean-outs over the years) As Pop says "they don't make 'em like they used to." Ain't that the truth?! For real!

July 2024. THANK YOU SO MUCH! This worked like a charm and you were so clear and concise. We also managed to fix my parents lock that was throwing the same error! Thank you!

I just want to thank you for the very specific fix. This was EXACTLY what fixed my problem. I even have a Bravos XL washer and this still fixed it. I didn't add the dielectric grease however, but I will get around to it. Problem solved in like 10 minutes. Thank you again!

Could not have been explained and demonstrated better. Worked like a charm. Had to refer back to you installing the metal contact clip onto the plastic carriage, as I was holding the plastic part upside down while trying to reinstall it. Helped immensely! Thank you!

@@petereit , problem keeps coming back, but where the lid locks, starts a spin cycle for only a few seconds, then the lid lock clicks and the washer stops. If we keep repeating the "start" button, it sometimes will complete a cycle, but not often. Any ideas? :(

@@DecksNJ I actually had to perform this procedure twice on my machine (I shot this video the second time.) Applying the bulb grease was what made it “take.” Another viewer also recommended thoroughly cleaning the contacts with CRC electronics spray.

Thank you for this video! I bought a Whirlpool Cabrio wtw8500dr0 set super cheap because it needed this repair, bought a China replacement component and it was defective right out of the gates. Luckily I still had the original Whirlpool component and I could see the contact arms fell off. I snatched the good ones off the new China switch, cleaned it up, tossed them on and it fixed it. Washer is working for teh first time as we speak and I appreciate your video as a reference.

Thanks for making this video. I am an avid DIYer and hate having to replace parts or appliances due to poor parts quality. This video saved my bacon and my Cabrio Washer. Great video and instructions worked like a charm.

Thank you for this video. I finally have a long term fix. For those of you that have to run that laundry that is already in there. Let it turn off to reset and then when you hit run I sat on the lid and that apparently provided enough force for the contacts to read.

Great instructions but didn't work. Bravo xl mct has same switch. I can hear it clicking several times and then shuts off. I used to slam the lid to get it to work. Now I raise it 1/2" or so till the lock light comes back and then drop the lid. No, nothing else bent or out of place. I wonder if there's a magnet in the switch. The end of the lock has been broken so I can start it this way. Wouldn't have messed around with it so many if not for these instructions

Thanks for this video. I have a Maytag that is huge and we can't even buy a comparable replacement these days. This fix just bought me some more time.
