How To Fix Your 2002 Dodge Durango Stuck Gear Shifter

This video demonstrates how to fix your 2002 Dodge Durango (and similar model years) gear shifter. On this particular Durango, the gear shift would be stuck in park for roughly 20-30 seconds before it would be able to move to reverse, drive, etc. All you need is WD-40 and that's it! It takes about a minute to fix this problem.

So, I had Total Knee Replacement on Dec 9th, and was staying at my Daughter's house (for about a month). I wanted to leave the Durango there at her house, but when I started having issues right before the surgery, I instead took my other (newer) car. When I finally got home, I started researching this and was so pleased to see this recommended fix! I was just about to call for a service appointment. Oh yes this works! Just a shot of WD-40 and it fixed the stuckgear shifter! I had been worried for weeks that I would have to take apart the steering column and fix some worn parts!

I'm in Albany New York and it's about 10 degrees out at the end of a long day of work I got into my Dakota that I don't use very often because we're expecting a snowstorm I'm sure as shit that they would not go into gear so the first thing I did was ask Google why the truck would not go into gear and your video popped up and lo and behold I had some WD-40 in my rig so I ran and got it gave it a quick squirt and I'm off and running LMAO! I got a Durango 2001 with a new trans and shift cable but when driving it jumps from drive to reverse on dash but if u tap the shifter up the box will light up around d again?

Just learned thru my vin on my 02 dakota that this was recalled and according to the site, it hasn't been performed. Also says to go to dealer to have it replaced free of charge

there isn't much of a gap to let the lube get in there, so you want something thin like wd40 or a spray lube called fluid film.
