Hope you guys can take these tips to improve your stream quality! These same settings can be used for "recording" too (feel free to go crazier with the bitrate). It helps to have a good computer as you will be able to record/stream videos in higher quality using Apple hardware.

Go to the source (Video capture device-Elgato) and click Properties and under Device click and use the one that says like: Game Capture HD60 pro(Video)(#01). Dont use Elgato Game capture that lags the picture every couple of seconds. Plus make sure you installed all the Elgato Software on your computer

About the CPU preset, I have search a fair amount to get answer on it. But mostly, I always find this standard answer: _'For OBS at least, putting it any slower than veryfast can disable many x264 optimizations. You are better off increasing the frame rate, resolution, or bitrate to improve the quality (in the case of recordings, a quality based rate limit all the way up to placebo would be better - but cost a ton of storage). Changing this setting to improve quality is not recommended as the improvements are very minor and come at a great CPU cost.'_ But since I have a huge CPU (giggidy), it feels like a waste to not use it. And I'm using OBS, and am a little concerned that it can "disable optimizations", whatever that means... Gained any knowledge about this after this video?

I stream directly from my Xbox Series X to Twitch and have an upload speed of 19-20 (gig internet) I’ve tried streaming 1080p and 720p with 6,000-6,500 bitrate and it STILL looks like the example shown at 3:45 I don’t know what else to do, it doesn’t look like that all the time only in certain lit areas or when movement is too fast (why I dropped down to 720 yet still no fix) I don’t get it 🤷🏻‍♂️😔

My stream was hella laggy today. Maybe I need to reduce my bitrate even more. I’m using at late 2013 27” iMac we dedicated graphics. I’m too far from my router to hardwire. Maybe that’s my issue. My upload is over 80mbps. Should I allow for bitrate fluctuation to help with my dropped frames?

That upload speed is pretty good, I would test a hardwire if you can to see is that’s the issue. What bitrate did you set?

MidnightMan I originally had it set to 60mbps however I meant this to be my recording bitrate, not the stream bitrate. That was understandably bad. I knocked it down to 10k and it worked decent but eventually saw me dropping frames. I’m going to try something between 4.5 and 6mbps and hopefully it’ll be better. Thanks for the response.

MidnightMan I’m not sure if you’ve covered it in another video but checking the “Dynamically change bitrate when dropping frame while streaming” box helped me immensely. You can find it in settings under advanced then scroll down to Network and check the dynamic box. I was able to stream at 20mbps 1080p60 for 1 hour with zero frame drops. 😀

Hey thanks man. I'm moving from a Windows NVENC set up to a Macbook Pro 2015 with AMD. I always run my streams 720p @ 60fps. A nice picture improving trick I learned was a rescaling trick 1080p to 720 with Lanczos 36 Sample rescaling - is there any reason you've said "not to rescale" on the hardware encoder? Does it put pressure elsewhere i.e. CPU or does the Hardware encoder overheat etc?

For quality purposes, 1080p is always nicer to run if your computer can handle it.

@@MidnightMan True, but many of my live viewers are on Mobiles (over wifi or 4G LTE etc) and for the sake of avoiding choppiness for small a percentage of users I use 720 (30fps) and a bitrate of 2000 to 3500 (60fps). Mine is a DJing/Audio experience where I don't need the quality things like Gaming would.

Hi, if using the HD60S even if you set the delay amount it continuously get out of sync at other time points. A quick fix is to disable/enable OBS link every time it happens, long term you need the HD60S+ as that runs best for Mac.

This video was so helpful!! I finally got the right settings for dropped frames. Thank you for this video!! But now I have another problem. When I play on my PS5 using Remote Play to my MacBook Pro. The game lags hard! When I move the analog sticks in a first person game the camera spins around making a full turn. Or when I'm moving the game character it stops doing what I want it to and suddenly moves a different direction. I use the x264 with 1080 30fps and 3500 bitrate on very fast preset but yet my streams still looks pixelated/blurry like the second example you showed... my internet upload/download is 10/111. I stream on a laptop that’s intel core i7, decent specs. It was pretty fine for a long time now it just recently started doing this. Not sure what else to do...

This made another problem. When I'm streaming it's either pixelated and running fine or laggy and not pixelated. I've been trying to find ways to fix it and I'm using an AMD encoder to stream. I've only figured out that the AMD encoder has ran better than the x264. Any help? (I use a ryzen3 processer and have been running my streams at a bitrate of 1000.)

You want to have a bitrate if at least 2500 or higher. 1k is too low.
