Merci! Thanks for this really helpful video. Just to add a data point -- I have the Companion 3 Series ii, with the round 9-pin connector. What worked for me was blue-orange, green-purple, AND red-gray. The last one seemed necessary to get the whole thing to switch on.

Guys.....I suspect Benjamin H. didn't really fix a round 9 pin connector as he could/would easily tell us the color of pins layout since he "supposedly" already told which wire colors to jump.

Hi, could you tell me how can I do the bypass? I have this device without pod control
@dansullivan17358 жыл бұрын
I feel empowered! Thanks! I also have 9-pin / Companion 3 and the original instructions worked perfectly. Back story: My wife bought a display unit in 2007 on clearance for $50 when Twitter was shuttering. The catch was no control pod. I ordered one for $38 directly from Bose and we had a nice system for under $100. That pod only lasted a couple of years at best and Bose sent me a new one for half price. This morning I started hearing a loud buzz through the speakers with the music faint in the background. Same result through earphones when I plugged them into the control pod. I came across this post but first tried plugging my ipad directly into the back of the bass unit (where I'd had a desktop system from my office downstairs plugged in previously). I called Bose and (following a 20 minute hold) the guy I spoke with - Mark with a French accent, ironically - insisted it was not the control pod but the bass unit and suggested it was not worth fixing. He also said it was "very rare" for the control pod to go bad despite my having gone through two of them and ample evidence to the contrary all over Internet discussion boards. Mark said that if it was the control pod my unit would have worked when I plugged a device in directly to the bass unit as I had tried on my own and again when he was on the phone. I tested both my desktop and iPad several times and the unit did not work until I bypassed the worthless and problematic control pod per these "very French" and excellent instructions. Merci. P.S. - We are all one. Racism of any kind is ignorance. Peace ... out.

Interesting story, one I come across often (someone in authority tells you 'it cannot be done', or 'you are mistaken') and now since the internet we can discuss and share real life experience rather than corporate policy or just plain lack of experience, also, thank you for your anti racism comments, I believe (as well as ignorance) that hate speech of any sort is simply someone's own self hatred projected out into the world. Bless us, everyone.

WOW!!!! Thank you very much for this video, sir. Bought the same one today at Goodwill for only $35 to realize it was not working. After doing some research I realized that the only problem with it would be the damn control pod. I came across your video, did the jump as you suggested and voila. It is working like a charm.

Thank you very much!!! I found your video extremely helpful as I've always hated that little round controller. It would shut off by itself and then I'd tap it to turn it back on the loud sound would blast out. I removed it and tied the wires together as you suggested and It works perfectly! Thank you again!!!

Thank you, I have the 9 pin connector, I followed the same instructions, and it worked just fine for the nine pin connector also. NOTE: you have to unrap the foil on some of the wires, to see what color they are. ALSO I cut the wire right by the controller, (ON & OFF Controller) Make sure you don't cut to close to the plug, because the wires are very fragile, and break very easily. Make sure you leave room for error. (My Bose Companion 3 Speaker System works just fine now. I just use the comuter speaker Icon to control the volume. Thanks again.

@dr.rammahavir85972 жыл бұрын
Did you join the same wires he mentioned in the video ?
@curtisleonard72538 жыл бұрын
Same as the video, on the 12 pin, the wires are the same color, just connect the correct color wires as shown on the video. Note: some wires are cover with a foil, you will have to remove the foil to see what color the wire is. Be careful the wires are very fragle. Also you don't have to cut the wires close to the plug, you can cut them anywhere and splice twist them together and it will work. I cut the wire a couple feet down from the plug, it took me two tries to strip the insulation of the wires and twist themm together because the wires are fragle and will break. Once I got them twisted together, I taped them up, and then taped them to the side of the wolfer, so they would be out of the way. Good Luck

Hi everybody! Well, I have the same problem... after a few days without use it, my Bose Companion3 don't work. Led don't blink in red or green. I removed the rear cover, and I checked with my polimeter the voltage to enter and outside from transformator, and after rertificator. The voltage is ok, 14/15V in continuous. After that, I find your video (congrats, and thank you very much. Do not worry for your English because is perfect, much better than mine) :D I tried to bridge the wires you say in the video (Blue/Orange, Green/Purple, and Red/Gray) but system do not work. I can listen the typical noise from speakers when amplifier is active (bbbzzzzzzz) but if I connect my computer I can't reproduce music. As a plus information, if I touch some parts in the motherboard, I can't get to listen the typical distortion noise... :/ I don't know if you can help me, but be sure that I will be so grateful if you can give some extra information for do it work. Auw! Sorry!! My Pod connector is round... Thank you very much from Barcelona, and I will waiting for your answer; Guillermo

guille79bcn what happen if you just do Blue/Orange and Green/Purple? There is some people in the comment saying it works. May I ask why you added red and gray? Is it in the comments?
@guille79bcn6 жыл бұрын
Guizmaille, thank you very much for your fast answer! Well, if I put the jumpers between blue/orange and green/purple I can't see any change in behaviour... there is not sound. And yes, as you say, I read all comments yesterday and some people say that it's necessary to put together the red and gray wires for dissable the Mute function... I was checking the voltage in some points of mother board, but without diagram it's impossible to know what I'm doing, obviously, but current to final transistor it's ok (normal because I can listen the buzzer sound). As I didn't not make a progress, I was measuring the continuity from round connector to Pod for be sure that wires are ok too, and I didn't find any damage in them. Finally I think that the problem can be in mother board, not in Pod... but I need some references values to be sure before change it. I don't know if it possible you give some values to confirm it... I find the mother board on the net and is not so expensive, but if I'm wrong and I need to change pod too, the value of both parts can be more expensive that a new speaker set :( Thank you very much for your attention again; Guille

I have similar issue, control pod doesn't work. Sound break on/off. I would like to use wire directly connect at back of subwoofer. Can you share from back view, at left column, from top to bottom, which 4 pins need to connect? 24, 35. is the combination correct? Thanks a lot
@ethandavis382710 жыл бұрын
Great Video!! Merci Beaucoup. I was wondering how you discovered which wires to permanently connect together. Were you able to to identify the function of each wire? If so, would you mind providing that information. I recently repaired my system, except that the connector itself was the problem. I cut it off and about a foot of wire and it now works just like it did when it was new. It seems that there are either poor connections initially from the factory and/or they did not provide adequate strain relief considering these are usually shoved under a desk. I bought my system in 2007 and it came with the 9-pin round connector. I know that these are very prone to failure so I wonder if Bose decided to replace them with the 5x2 rectangular connector that you have (and looks like the one used on the Companion 5 system). I wonder if your connector (or wires near it) was the culprit and not the actual control pod. Would be interesting to solder on a new connector if you still have the control pod and see if it works. Good Luck!
@Guizmaille10 жыл бұрын
The truth is I just cross-tested wires (What I mean is: I tried different combination) until I have a decent sound, with both speakers and subwoofer working. How I've done it was really messy and included opening the subwoofer, wich turned out not being necessary. But here is how I would do it now: open the remote control pod, unplug the white plastic thing containing the connectors. (You can see me holding those nudes connectors at 1:17). Its very important to remember the correct order of each connectors to be able to set them up again. Then you just have to power on your Bose Companion, run some long audio stream to do the testing, and "plug" each connector into the correct pin, and unplug them one by one until you get everything right. I think that you can manage to keep the volume control. But I could be wrong and that will require time and patience to determine wich wire "does" exactly. There is 10 differents wires/connectors. My guess would be 4 for the speakers and subwoofer. 2 for the green/orange led 2 for volume control and 2 for controlling the mute function, wich seem to be the one actually failling.
@ethandavis382710 жыл бұрын
Guizmaille Thanks for the reply. I was able to get mine working by replacing the connector (that goes into the sub) so I was just more curious than anything as to how you did it and if you figured out what each wire is for. I have a suspicion that your control pod wasnt actually broken and that it was something wrong with connector. The reason I say this is that mine experienced similar problems...at first it would work but with limited functionality (mute didn't work even though light would change colors), then it would stop working altogether but the headphone jack in the puck still worked. I'm not totally sure why a bad connector would behave in this manner (system behavior changing without touching it) but it did. If you're interested in attempting to fully repair it, I'm pretty sure I know the part number for a new connector assembly.

Tyler Herman Sorry men but I'm not a native and I'm too broke for traveling right now so no way to improve. However if one day you come to post a video of you speaking french, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't flame you in the comments. Just posted this to help as I didn't found any video on the web myself. The thing I show on the screen should be pretty much self explanatory tho.
