This is such a well done video - informative & entertaining, checks all the boxes! Great idea on the aluminum box tubes. I have to rebuild mine and was going to use plywood but was worried about the weight. This looks like it will be much lighter, and less work because i would have to cut & glue multiple sheets of ply together as 4 x 8 is what I can get easily. Thanks for posting!

Thanks. Every time I use it I have a feeling of satisfaction and pride. It really works great. Was a lot of engineering involved but well worth it.

Sure love your video's with your commentaries and how you are incorporating lessons learned and Rich Larsens techniques, into your rides. That said, now that you have had video on Trixie, and tail gating builds, how about a video on your ride gear. I am particularly interest of what type device you use for your OnX mapping and if it is a cell phone. If not a cell phone how you create a hot spot so that you can up load maps to the device. My phone is two small for a mapping screen but my tablet has a much larger screen. What type of clear gear bag are you hanging from the bars? You mentioned in one video that you wear padded girdles. I use foot ball girdles so the top and side of my thigh's are protected and the football girdles use much larger tail bone and hip pads. Other incites into what you wear for protection would be great. Keep your video's rolling. Jack

Thanks Jack. I love seeing what other riders wear and how they set themselves up on a ride too so I’d be happy to make a gear video. I go a little overboard with the gear I wear. I just don’t like getting hurt anymore. But I love riding hard terrain and pushing myself to the limits.

Great video very informative I need to fix my toy hauler ramp if you don’t mind me asking where did you get the aluminum tubing and exact dimensions on the tubing I’ll greatly appreciated it if you could help me with that thanks
@hardcoreenduro3 ай бұрын
The square tubing was 1 1/2” x 1/4” thick aluminum I don’t know if all you hauler manufacturers are using the same dimension doors so I’d measure yours in a small sample spot to make sure the 1 1/2” square tubing will fit. Also your door will be heavier when finished. So either get stiffer hinge springs or make a system to raise it like I did. Now mine is still light enough to lift. But my wife wouldn’t be able to lift it on her own. It Takes some engineering as each trailer is different, but boy I sure love raising and lowering it with the push of a button.

@@hardcoreenduro thanks for the quick reply I can imagine how easy it is to open and close with the winch that modification is on the plan also where can I buy the tubing and hardware do you have the company name you bought the tubing from?

There are metal suppliers everywhere. Just look up a metal supplier near you. You’ll be able to get 20ft sticks of it or ask them to cut them for you. Should metal supply or iron supply Mine is a local store called Morgan slates metal supply But I guarantee you have a metal supplier near you

I am curious how this is holding up for you and if you calculated the additional weight of the tubing? I am currently rebuilding the ramp door on my 2015 Grand Design and I am thinking about using 8 tubes instead of the 5 you used because we haul 2 heavy Harley's and the weight isn't distributed the same way yours is.
@hardcoreenduro2 ай бұрын
@@scottnance436 the door has held up fantastic. My sxs weighs 2000lbs and probably 2,200lbs by the time it’s packed loaded. It’s heavier than the original door but I can’t still lift it by myself. As I said in the video I could put heavier springs to help assist lifting it. But the winch is so nice. If you have the time and can install a winch or some motor lift system on the ramp door do it. I went cheap on my winch and that’s one thing I’m questioning how long it’ll last but so far it’s been great. I love the remote aspect too. The e-track on the outside has been great too. I’ve put my kids electric sxs’s on it. I’ve put Costco kayaks on it. It’s really nice to have that extra storage capability. My Rv is a forest river manufacturer. Don’t know if grand design makes theirs the same. I imagine they do. Go for it. And good luck

What size bolts/screws did u use for installing the tracks on the ouside of the door?
@hardcoreenduro3 ай бұрын
I don’t remember off the top of my head. I’ll check on the rig when I get a chance You’re talking about what I used to anchor the E track right?

They use luan.
@hardcoreenduro2 ай бұрын
I wish manufacturers would’ve just added at least two aluminum tubing rails on the door. They would be still extremely light and twice as strong
@theoutdoorslifetv32002 ай бұрын
@@hardcoreenduro they should also have used epoxy and structural foam.
@theoutdoorslifetv32002 ай бұрын
@@hardcoreenduro mine is decaying at the bottom. The luan, foam and outer skin. I'm thinking of just building a whole new core and moving the frame, using Azdel panels as the outer skin instead of luan and paper thin aluminum.
