Posture is movement. Posture is NOT a snapshot of your body. Posture is YOU. YOU are living and moving even when you're sleeping. Posture is your life that is contantly moving. Improving posture isn't about "fixing" your body. Improving your posture is really about changing your movement patterns, improving movement quality, expanding movement availability and options/possibilities. Improving posture means improving movement and it also means improving quality of your life! Let's get to the root of posture and improve posture in a meaningful way!

Really appreciate these gems of body awareness. So much more of this body awareness approach needs to be taught to the general public vs tge typical North American hyper workout approach with all other quick fix fads. Taro's laid back tone and body awareness focus is and will continue to be an essential piece of my well being program as I ease into my 60s and beyond. If only I'd been exposed to this approach back in my 20s and 30s!

I’m so glad to have found your videos. The knowledge you share makes so much “sense”. I happened upon the first one searching for relief from neck pain. After so many videos of “stretch your neck into positions that really didn’t feel so great”, it was a relief and delight to find yours that were gentle, and aimed at the root cause. You are an inspired practitioner and teacher. Thank you!!

Thank you for your support and kind words! I believe we all have intelligence and internal resources within us to improve our functions, so we just have to turn our attention inward and "listen" to our body and learn about our body from the inside. A magic will start to happen from the inside:)

Great Taro. I was a tall teenager which I hated - so I slouched trying to appear less tall. I've been like this for years and now I'm very keen to fix it. Your advice is excellent 🎉 Thanks

Fantastic as usual. I always feel more hopeful of improvement in my overall quality of life when I watch your videos, knowing that improving the way I move through a day (all 24 hours) can be changed from the inside out and it doesn't have to be through drastic, high intensity work-outs (which I can't do anyway these days)--though I know those have their place in the world. Thank you so, so much for making your help available here. It's making a difference in my life, and I thank you again for that.

Hi Taro, I've just read your subscriber email Friday 14th July about 'Everthing Connected' it makes a lot of sence in terms of health and health issues people have. It's a great way to look at our own health issues from a different perspective and to work on them from a different point of view I would like to see more of this type of information in your videos if possible. Thanks for all the great advice and help, your a star!

Thank you! I approach movement practice from a functional perspective, and look for relationships between how we move (movement patterns) and our daily activities, life (all aspects), and look for ways we can change and improve those relationships by changing how we move. The process of improving movement patterns and movement quality reveals many things we weren't aware of before, and as awareness of own body grows, we can start to create new choices/options/possibilities that we didn't even know existed before. The bottom line is mindful movement practice is a wonderful means to improve our health and well-being! Whether we like it or not, everything we do has to do with MOVEMENT, so it's up to us whether we improve quality of movement = life or not. It's our choice to make:)

This is very helpful. For people who also have kyphosis in addition to scoliosis may need further instruction on doing lying down flat or straight back positions such as using a rolled towel or something under their neck.

As you develop more awareness of your body, how you move and use your body in daily activities, you will know your body more deeply and will know when you need to make adjustments to your activities, what adjustments you need to make, how to change your movement patterns in accordance with what you do. These are exact skills that many people need, but have not learned, thus they keep hurting their body without knowing how, and don't know what's good and what's not so ideal for your body in the moment and where you can improve, etc. These skills are essential because we all have unique body and move differently, meaning you need to learn your body well and your optimal movement. That's what I help people learn. I don't teach a number of exercises people use as mechanical fixing of their body. I help people connect with their body, learn about their body and movement patterns, and how to retrain their movement patterns and nervous system:)

Lovely. Watching variations of cow and cat posture. Since the time I have been watching your videos have realised that when I sit on the chair I do not sit with the rounded back as I sit at the tip of the chair in front, but, on bed the old pattern comes back😔 Thank you for your guidance through videos.

you mean when you sit on your bed? by the way, I'm running my "14 Day Posture Transformation Challenge" on Leapmonth app again in December, the same one I ran earlier this month. This 14 premium challenge helps people focus on one movement lesson (7~10 minutes) daily and helps them re-conceptualize understanding of posture, and transform their posture from the inside out. You might want to join this challenge. I highly recommend you sign up for my newsletter from my website if you have not yet, so you can be informed about my upcoming events including this 14 Day Posture Transformation Challenge.

Taro: In the beginning of this lesson, you suggested we watch the video called Brain Retraining for Posture. I looked all over youtube for this video but could not find it. Probably you altered the title. Pls provide the updated title or link to that specific video. My issues include fairly minor kyphosis as well as herniated discs (L4--L5). Thanks for your help.

DO YOU HAVE suggestions for TBI.....balance and eye brain reprogramming??? You are amazing!!!!
@TaroIwamoto Жыл бұрын
Hi! I'm not an expert and don't have much experience in working with people who has had TBI, but I would think calming the brain/nervous system, reducing "noise" with mindful movement practice, breath awareness would be beneficial. Connecting with your body in now by bringing your attention to your body and sensing your body (getting out of your head, letting go of thoughts) through movement practice can bring your brain/nervous system into a quiet state from which it can take in and process more information. Eye movements are connected to whole body movements. We organize eye movements to move us towards or away from something, so eye movements and the whole body movements are developed together. The brain/nervous system of course organizes all movements. I suggest you try my breath awareness lesson, and balance series.

@TaroIwamoto Жыл бұрын
retraining the nervous system and movement patterns is not all or none, so whether you can do movements well or not, how far you can move is not that important. Moving towards your intention even if it's 1 mm and sensing your body and movement will inform your brain/nervous system, so you're doing just fine:)

My daughter is hyper flexible and already had a bad posture as a baby/toddler 😞 She is 25 now. Would you recommend the above for her too and would you recommend other videos as well ? I guess, she would need to see a professional on an on-going basis but had not much money..
@TaroIwamoto Жыл бұрын
all my videos focus on helping people develop better body (sensory motor) awareness. Having good body awareness and movement control skills is important for everyone including people with hypermobility as a lack of good awareness and movment control skills can lead to inefficient movement patterns, overstressing particular body parts. That being said, many of us are not so used to paying attention to own body and don't know how to sense their body and movement from the inside out, but are more used to stretching, strengthening muscles. If your daughter focuses on developing better body awareness through my videos, and doesn't view them as stretching exercises, she would get a lot more benefits from my videos.
