Dude, the PALM ROTATION is so important. It made most of my shots go straight. I used to do palm rotation but right after the catch making the chicken, after I change the palm rotation during the time I'm about to shoot, it saved me a ton. Thanks Coach Collin. Idk if this is helpful but another thing I do is practice the palm rotation while I'm fetching the ball after I make my shot. So I dribble with my left hand going to the spot and practice my palm rotation and follow thru during

Consistency comes from practice
@HussainAli-cn9bk8 жыл бұрын
+C Bagsic (Exoticplaya1) no, consistency in my opinion is 50% practice, 50% mechanics. Even if, for example, Deandre Jordan shoots threes all day every day, he won't become a consistent shooter unless he fixes his mechanics. Deandre works on his free throws a lot and yet he still can't make em because of his form

Hey coach I was jus going over some of my Favorite videos and realized theirs so many mechanics and techniques that build up a quality shot. I was wondering if you could do a video that goes over everything from the release to the turn, from top of the shot to bottom. It doesn't have to go into to much depth but just something to relate to other videos that already go more in depth. A video like this will truly allow someone to achieve perfect mechanics. Pro shot did something like it where they went over some mechanics all good shooters used, and they even had the FOREST of shooting which was finger-offhand-Rythym(dip)-eyes(glancing at the ball)-sweep and sway-and finally the Turn. Thanks coach, a video like this would help thousands if not more players revolutionize their mechanics!

Biggest thing that helps my students is to get the ball outside. Once shooters get comfortable with the ball in one hand aligned to shoulder, the ball flies beautifully. The tension you mention is due to the ball being inside the shoulder. Notice your demonstration partner has the ball in the middle of the chest. Move the ball to the right. Right foot, right shoulder, right elbow all aligned to rim. No need to add extras that decrease repeatability.

Excellent video. You are very good and right on on many points. Different peoplle are comfortable with different techniques and you don't try to force anyone into a certain way that will mess them up most likely, when they were already just fine. But there are certain things that every great shooter has in common and you zero in on those. Number one is the elbow. Never saw a great shooter with a chicken wing elbow. The upper arm (shoulder to elbow) needs to be in line with the hoop at the set point - or very close to it. If is not, the shot will be a throwing motion. So how do you accomplish that? great question. The shooting stance is the root of all problems and you talk a lot about that. Tapping the elbow against the side is a good technique. If the elbow is tucked in in your stance, it will be tucked in at the set point after swing it straight up. One thing that I have always wrestled with is alignment. I am convinced that the direction the feet point is not that important and may vary in many situations. What is much more constant is the position of the shooting arm in the shooting stance. What I focus on to get lined up right, rather than my feet, is the direction my bicep points when I hold the ball in my stance. At the set point, my bicep points upwards (as opposed to sideways). Therefore in my stance, my bicep should point towards the hoop because I swing my elbow straight up. I can use that to get lined up in my stance. If I am moving straight towards the hoop, I can line my bicep up perfectly towards the hoop as I make my move. If I am moving right, my bicep will point right as I make my move but will come in line with the hoop as I start to go up. If I am moving left, my bicep will point a little left as I make my move but I get it lined up straight as i go up. I try to curl as much as possible as I make my move so that I minimize the angle that I have to turn to align my bicep towards the hoop once I have the ball in my hands. If I have to turn excessively once I have control of the ball, I will not be able to jump strong. Using my bicep to get aligned properly works for me because I hold the ball in the middle of my body so that swinging my bicep straight up is similar to throwing an uppercut in boxing. Many great shooters such as Mitch Richmond hold the ball further to the side (his left side since he is right handed). With the ball held over on his left side, his bicep is turned to the left rather than straight ahead. For Richmond, raising the ball to the set point is more of a backhanded motion rather than an uppercut motion. At the set point, his bicep points straight up with his upper arm (shoulder to elbow) lined up with the hoop (rather than sticking out), which is the common denominator for all great shooters. I don't worry about my feet. I worry about getting my bicep pointed straight up at the set point. I position my feet however I need to to accomplish that. Another excellent point is the way to hold the ball. It is essential to hold the ball comfortably with wrist in a natural position and avoid twisting the wrist to get the hand behind the ball. The hand should be more to the side with a firm grip and comfortable. A general rule I go by is I should not be able to see my pinky finger if I look down at the ball in my stance. If I can see my pinky finger, I am twisting my wrist and introducing tension in my arm.

I would add take a small jump forward while shooting, keep eyes on the back rim, and “grab a cookie on the top shelf out of the cookie jar”. The momentum foward with the jump, the concentration on the rim, and the hand position will help that arm stay straight from beginning to end. *feet turn *elbow tap *palm rotation *jump forward *concentrate on back rim *grab cookie in jar
