Pro tip: Use a piece of plastic baggie to cover the fresh rez. You can push the resin into the hole and spread it out so that it's easy to sand off the excess later. This is especially helpful on the rails and areas that won't lay flat while the resin is curing. After a few minutes the resin will start to harden, so you can pull the baggie off and let it cure in direct sun for another few minutes. Makes for a more accurate repair job.

Hello Kale, and thanks for sharing your expertise. Just my 2 cents..... you should have sanded the area so the resin would stick better to your board. when you don't sand the area, what wind up happening is air bubbles will form underneath the resin, when the board flexes, allowing water to penetrate into the foam of your board. Preparation is key to a great repair. Cheers mate!!

Hi Kale, Just watching this video and seeing swallow waters you are surfing makes me realize one thing. I just set up a surf trip to Peru, my first surf trip ever. I just perceived how important is to take a repair kit... in Rio de Janeiro beaches are all beach breaks and in Peru there are some rocks at the sea bed... so, I will get some repair kit to put on my bags... thanks Bro... all the success to the longevity film!!!

Kale, First off great video like always so kudos. I wanted to chime in on the repair. I am a surfer from the 90's and you guys are an inspiration to me getting back into it. When I did ding repairs back then I used resin, hardener, wax paper and sand paper several grits. The wax paper will on wet resin will not stick and it will flush out the resin prior to sanding. Thanks again for this video, your friend from Oregon, JIBMONEY

I'm surprised the kit didn't come with a sanding pad. The foam in those boards (epoxy) suck water like a sponge due to less density than traditional stringer board (poly), so it's a must to repair any ding before the next surf. Cut up a plastic zip bag or something and place it over the ding to help 'form the resin' while curing. Tails and noses are trickier than decks/ bottoms and rails, so use tape to help form the shape. Don't leave those epoxy boards lying in the sun as they tend to yellow quicker.Just off the subject, it's personal preference but I prefer poly boards for anything over 2m as they don't seem to 'sit on top' of the water like the epoxy boards IMHO.

Scuff the area with sand paper for better adhesion. Other than that great advice - much better than tossing and adding to the landfills! Don't forget to rinse the wet suit in fresh water & hang it up to dry out of the sun!

I have a question...So I am about 160cm tall and weigh about 41kg. I have surfed a 6 foot foam board and had no problems. I can paddle into green waves and turn left or right. I don’t surf often (only in the holidays) and am looking to buy a surfboard since the rental boards are often very damaged. What kind of surfboard do you recommend? I was thinking of a hybrid for smaller waves about 5’4-5’6 in lenght...

Hi Kale, I just recently bought a 2nd hand board online with few dings on it. I would like to repair it on my own, but I don't know what type of foam was used. There is no guide in JS industries website about this Bruce Irons signature board. How can I tell if my board is EPS or Polyester? What resin should I use? Thanks a lot and more powers to your channel!

you can use epoxy on epoxy and polyester. polyester can be used only to repair polyester. so if not sure, always use epoxy

Hey guys! I have been surfing for 4 months now and I’m starting to want to do turns Before I start practicing I want to make sure that my feet are in the right place. My back foot lands just in front of the pad, meaning that I move it back in to the pad while I’m riding. Is this an issue and should I aim to make my foot land their straight away after the pop up? Thanks lads, keep ripping :)
