Do you know, I had a huge clear out, and then I did loose weight!! But now I'm buying stuff that suits me and is nice and fresh. I've ended up going completely through my wardrobe, Doesn't fit=out Not right colour=out Couldn't see myself wearing it, didn't wear it, went with nothing in my robe anymore=out Just bought it on sale but have never worn it=out My wardrobe was almost empty and I tried to remember all her tips and bough stuff to go with what I had kept...and set it all up in seasons, events, colours, so now I just go to the section and pull it out. I find I wear everything and enjoy wearing clothes again, instead of looking in my wardrobe and saying I have nothing to wear, or dreading going out, because nothing was suitable. I wish I had done it when I was young.

Love all the tips to “put the lady back in the hourglass shape”. I would add good bra that is adjusted properly: I fit women all day for post- mastectomy issues and also women just needing a proper sizing and fitting. They are always amazed how small their middle looks when their bust is in the proper location (hint: it’s well above the belly 😉)

Mellissa’s channel is really useful. I have got so many pointers from her. I like thinking about the colours that suit you. Getting neutral colours that will match absolutely everything else. So when you’re shopping you know what colours to go for. looking at more styles to try has been great. I do agree that her hourglass reshaping is a game changer.

At 65YO, I have been overweight for 10 yrs now. I used to be a real hourglass in my youth and now, a real apple shape so I stopped caring about what to wear bc I would still "look like a drum" anyway. I felt terribly conscious when out in public, especially in this nice neighborhood we live in. Then 3 yrs ago, I started watching all these KZbin stylists and learned a good deal about how to dress w style and class. I have just started eating healthy again w the onset of my organic garden, and dressing for my body type has become easier since I replaced all my crappy wardrobe w more classic, neutral ones. I am still overweight but changing the way I dress has contributed to my contentment and well-being. My motto is to feel happy and stylish now, not when I have lost the weight. If I died tomorrow without feeling good about how I look now, it would have been such a pity!

Something I've been getting much more into are the colors that suit me! Going through two pregnancies, a pandemic and a neck injury as well as walking on a fractured foot for an entire summer (I know it's as ridiculous as it sounds), trying to suit my shape has been very difficult. I'm not at the size that I'm comfortable being at but what makes it worse is feeling like my clothes doesn't fit me well. Now that I'm understanding more about what suits me at this point in my life, I've really noticed how some colors really make me shine. I'm a very cool toned. Complexion and it's something I never understood about myself until recently. I used to shy away from colors because they never looked right on me. They always made me. Now I know that I have to get the right tone and I actually look really lovely and very rich colors. Curating a wardrobe of basic staples to tie anything together was more about my shape and now I'm thinking more about my color for more exciting pieces in my wardrobe that speak to me and really show my personality. Oftentimes I'm spending most of the day outside with my children or in the garden and if we go out somewhere I need to be in functional clothes but I still like to look nice. That's what's brought me to this video. I'm trying to figure out some additional advice that maybe I haven't come across. If I find my colors and my basics that fit my body shape, all of the workers already done for me. So the stress of getting dressed every day is not there anymore.
@thehonestchannel9 ай бұрын
I know exactly what you mean. Even when I'm just on my own in the house it's nice to feel good about I'm wearing and the colors are so important. Hope you found the interview helpful.

Interesting video! After looking into this for the past number of years, my take is that knowing your colour palette from a 12 season system (not 16, that's too many and it loses accuracy), and knowing your body type, (I support the Kibbe system although his examples are dated, but the principles as a guide make sense to me), are the most important pieces of information to understand well. Then translating that into one's lifestyle - and adding some personal preferences, and boom. You are done! Shopping and dressing is so much easierI like some of the advice here, but with one warning. Not every woman looks right being encouraged to look more hourglass. I do like the notion of owning your "type" and dressing to be in harmony with that type. Not everyone suits geometrics, some women look amazing in stripes, some suit billowy florals, some don't, etc. And forget celebrities. Honestly, normal average women who dress well are so much more inspiring. And within a budget!!! ♥ to you all....

Good news, I’ve discovered colors that enhance my natural skin tones. I now also pay more attention to my body shape proportions (rectangle). ❤ I’ve made a shift in thinking. I enjoyed all the content - very helpful to hear the common sense approach to purchasing clothing that fits your lifestyle (!) as well as your body, instead of chasing all the current (and ever-changing) trends. I also liked that you included everyday women to model the concepts you were discussing. What I most appreciated about this video, however, was the fact that two women (who I imagine may be "competitors" for KZbin subscribers?) modeled a healthy, genuine relationship - very refreshing and commendable! Lots of great points here, thanks! I agree with 'dress to please yourself' but there needs to be some 'real mirror' applied to it. For example, as we age the chest can get crepey -that's when it's time to stop wearing low-cut tops Ditto for mini skirts if the leg skin has turned into an accordion. No matter one's age, showing off our best features and playing down the negatives always wins the look.

Melissa, I think you are very sensible with your advice. I believe that there’s no room for complacency. How do you maintain your self esteem without making the making yourself feel the best you can. As a nurse of forty years I always encouraged my patients to get up, shower, brush their hair and put some lipstick on. It was encouraging to see how much their whole demeanour changed because they were doing it for themselves and they looked better regardless of how sick they were ( that’s if they were able to of course, I would just moderate my care for those who couldn’t and they loved it) TLC is great therapy to give and to receive. A hug and a smile can only improve your day. Another funny thing I find is when I wear red lipstick many more people smile back at you. Try it 💋

I never agreed that “black goes with everything” or that it’s “universally flattering”, but Melissa is the first stylist I’ve come across who thinks so, too. Black kills any color it’s next to, doesn’t look good on the vast majority of people, and is, I think, a bit of a copout for many wardrobes. After all, we wear black for funerals, it’s not a happy color. One problem is that nearly every garment or accessory for sale comes in only black and one trendy color, at least here in the US. For some reason, the fashion powers-that-be here never think we will buy light colors. I see this all the time, like when Zara offered some cream trousers I really wanted, but not on their US website, only the Euro ones. We got: yep, black.

Previously working in the city for our Federal Government. NOW ... I'm retired to a southern Australian seaside town. So the suits and heels went out but now I have the time but not the income to purchase well made clothing that fit and suit my middle-aged short body and my retired lifestyle. I don’t want to be a frumpy old lady. I find semi- tailored and semi-casual styles suit me best. So! I've gone back to a hobby I love - sewing. It isnt inexpensive to sew especially when one wants quality garments, but we don't need a stuffed cupboard. Comfort and style can be attained together. I'm knitting again too. I'm keeping a simple and flattering hair style that's easy to achieve daily. Covid time was when Government Health advised us "If you do nothing else each day, get up, make your bed and get dressed". When retired and/or stuck at home, it's easy to forget your own worth. I like to firstly look after me in the morning, then I tend to have a good day, but prepared for almost anything 😂❤😂❤😂

Fantastic video. I don't watch many videos that focus on style. Those that I've seen often have some good suggestions but on the whole aren't all that useful to people with typical aging body types, even the videos that are supposed to be for older women. Ms. Murrell was right on point throughout. I loved the Sponge Bob comparison. I would add that watching your posture helps and doesn't cost any money.
