Thanks for the info, yes it is helpful. I am just dipping toe in. So far I haven’t sold anything but getting a feel for the market, the process and what I feel a bit knowledgeable about. Don’t know diddly about kids books but I’m concentrating on older fiction, and your SF angle is good. Thank you, and keep it up.

Just so you know when it says the shipping cost in comps, it doesn’t actually mean someone paid that, it just shows you how much you would pay if you purchased it from your location.

I like your down to earth attitude in your videos. You have a valid point about buying your books around $1 there’s still profit to be made if they sell for $10. I never really thought about the science fiction books so I’ll be looking around for them. Thanks for the hint.

Some of the big booksellers hold up a book and say i sold this for $25 but they dont say they offer free postage and i think well that will be about $14 for postage which has to come out of that $25 , its a bit deceiving when they do that

That annoys me, too. Even on band 5, postage is still a decent chunk of the sale.

Good to see you happy today. A positive opportunity shop experience finally. Do you do the West Geelong book fair? The maths of what is worth listing and what is a space hog in our storage keeps changing from the point when ebay popped their fees onto postage to the postage price rises. My maths ebay fees 15% Postage $10.50 + $2 bubble mailer Cost of book. So if I'm buying a book for $4 from Vinnies and it comps for $10 + Post, that's $20.50 - $3 - $10.50 - $4 - $2. I'd be making. 50c To get $5 profit back from my $4 Vinnies purchase I'd have to get $25.50

I like the old paperbacks but wondering about the condition. Do they still sell when the pages have browned and have foxing? I just notice those older ones always seem to be like that. .
@RubberDuckRy6 ай бұрын
Similar to Tory, I just grab any old science fiction novels with cool covers if they are cheap enough. Condition doesn't seem to really be a huge factor. I've sold a number of books with browned pages for $50+
@farmgirl15606 ай бұрын
I often pick up old browned, ratty looking sci-fi and fantasy novels in the 50c bargain bins at op-shops. As long as the inside pages are intact, the rest of the condition doesn’t seem to matter. I just mark as acceptable and take lots of photos showing condition. I’m always surprised at how quickly they sell especially if you have a few from a series or same author.
@farmgirl15606 ай бұрын
I also find the vintage pony novels do well even if the cover is worn and they are brown etc. Still end up with $5-7 profit if I list individually, more for bundles. Even if I make $3 profit on a sale it’s worth it for me. All adds up.
@geelong-flipper6 ай бұрын
Yeah they sell like crazy! And just as importantly they are kind of fun. I agree with farmgirl pony books do well. Great tip.

Do you think about sell through rate when sourcing your books??
@geelong-flipper6 ай бұрын
@@Turd_Ferguson351 I do have a quick look at the sold listings and see if there’s anything in the last couple of months. However, sometimes if there are a lot of current listings, the book may be rare and something that people are looking for considering only pay a small amount for them it’s worth giving it a crack.
