I’m a dealer I flipped over 150 cars this year. And I will say I 100% agree with you. I’ve bought plenty of squeaky clean looking cars newer years hoping I scored big and it turned out to be a lemon. Tranny shot or something else that’ll total it out. Boom profit gone hole in the pocket. I will say if you don’t know what to look for get a mentor at least. Don’t let this discourage you. But definitely get somebody who can show you the ins and outs. Stick with that person for about a year. Make sure he got at least 10 plus years experience as well. Good luck. Plenty of money to make here. Hundreds of thousands. And plenty of money to lose as well. Not every car will be a big hit. Some will lose but the key is that your investing your money is not down the drain. I’ve never lost money on a car. I’ve always got my money back out so 100% better than gambling because gambling you’ll just throw your money away and it’s gone. A car is an investment. You can always cash for it. A million ways out of a car.

This is a great video on showing how to CLEAN the car! Buy let me tell you, there is a lot more to "flipping" than cleanliness, and that is MECHANICAL. I could write an essay on what to look for when buying the vehicle you intend to resell, but I will summarize by saying if you don't have some informal or formal expertise in that area, you will be left with a hole in your pocket and a bunch of clean junkers in your yard.

I used to have a neighbor who would solicit people with abandoned looking junk looking cars in their yards and buy the cars real cheap sometimes get them free for taking it off the persons lawn he’d start with the basic stuff common reasons why cars that have been sitting too long don’t start change the battery spark plugs basically he’d get the car to turn on and engine to turn over. Clean it up real nice he had another neighbor who he paid to buff the paint. And he’d sell these cars as if there was nothing ever wrong with them. Alot of times for more than they’d typically be worth or sell for if they were in mint condition. The cold sad truth is this most people make their choice to buy a car based on what it looks like. Most people aren’t mechanics if it looks good to them then it’s good. This guy makes them look good and takes the extra care to make sure it doesn’t smell funny. This is definitely how it is. It must look good in pictures for sure that’s the first thing people see on the online add. If it’s dirty and raggedy in the pictures and not listed for junk prices would you take the time spend the money to travel to go see it? Be honest

Most are dishonest in my country too. They hide past accidents of the car, or major problems, the thinker with the milage, they lie about repairs that they done to the car recently (like every car they sell had the timing and cluch replaced last year😂😂). The worst is when you meet them to see the car, they are always is a hurry and try to hurry you into a decision... I'll just avoid dealing with them.

Keep in mind (if you're in the US) many states limit the amount of vehicles you can sell without a dealers license. To get a dealers license you typically need: Office with road-facing Signage, locking filing cabinet, activated phone with phone number listed in phonebook, various other documentation and legal requirements including insurance and bonds. You'll also most likely be required to take an initial education course on dealer laws/regulations as well as maintain continuing education. After that it's just a small multi-thousand dollar fee to the state, acquire any local city or county required business license.. Then it's off to the auctions. Be sure to keep your paperwork and mileage records straight, as well as adhere to any state laws.

Can’t show the paper work because most of the title cars are still under sellers’ name. He’ll do title jump by hoping to sell the vehicle within 10 days. Plus most states have a law about owners allowed to sell only an X amount of vehicles under their name.

LEGALLY, you HAVE to register it in your name even before selling it. Buuuutt (do not do this) since there’s a limit on how many cars you can sell a year without a license a lot of people do what’s called “title jumping” where they bypass the registration process. They usually get away with it but those caught suffer pretty serious penalties

I have - and honestly, it's usually not worth it. The title's branded, you really need to tear the thing apart to figure out how extensive damage is - and unless you're into bodywork, bodywork is horribly expensive and will eat into your profit margins like you wouldn't believe. Paint is bad enough - but wrecked bodies full of crumple zones, that's something else entirely. Sometimes you can come out ahead - but it's always exponentially harder the worse the actual damage is. Because the more damage - more chance there's frame damage. If you have frame damage in most cars - it's time to cut your losses and send it to the scrapyard. Most of them will never drive correctly again, unless the entire chassis is replacement.

For cars like this, you usually make a gross profit of about $1000-2000, and ideally - only put about 40-60 hours of labor time into the repairs and detailing. Then (hopefully) net $500-1500 of that after the purchase of the next car. After that, it's just math, budgeting, and you defining what "good living," means for you. A lot of videos like these will say "I made $2000 flipping this POS." That's "gross profit." Profit before operating expenses. Your operating expenses here are the costs of tools, supplies, the car you will flip, and parts for that car, marketing expenses, travel, towing, etc. "Net profit," is what you make after all that is taken out. So let's say your net profit is about $500/car. That's a decent wholesale price if you're working with smaller dealers. If you're doing easier flips that you can only spend about 20 hours/week with, you can do about 2 a week, $1000/week, $4,000/mo, $48,000/year, before tax. This is why you want either quick fixes, cars that really just need maybe a new set of tires and good wash and couple fuses, or cars that you can get a higher markup out of and will still turn over quickly. You can do it full time - but most who do it successfully, tend to either be mechanics or they've worked a whole lot at car dealerships in some role or another, and know the market. You can get into it without a ton of mechanical knowledge - but it's much more difficult. Especially with modern cars. A really efficient flipper can make closer to six figures - but most of those tend to diversify their revenue steams - telling people they make ridiculous money on KZbin and wait for that sweet ad money to roll in. Everyone loves a good get rich quick story.

In Pa you can only sell up to four cars a year befor you need a dealer's license. Which involves having a lot with a certain number of parking spaces, You need to have a bond ,all kinds of stuff. So if you just want to sell a few cars a month how do you do it without getting a dealer license? And a wholesale license you can only buy from a dealer and sell to a dealer or buy from an auction and sell to an auction, so that wouldn't work. I keep seeing these flipping car videos and unless the state doesn't check, you're going to get caught and have to pay fines after four cars. So again what is the answer to flipping cars without owning a car lot?

You buy the vehicle and get the title signed from the seller, you never put the vehicle under your name, do some cleaning and minor fixing and list the vehicle for sale, when you sold the car just give the title to the new owner and he will put his name and signature. Basically the reseller never exist. And because everything is cash…. It’s like nothing happened 😂😂

I noticed you didn't go into the curbstoning aspect and how it is very illegal in most states, including here in Ohio, which I see is where your business is based. I'm assuming since you're a legit business owner, you have a used car dealer license. Otherwise, you could face severe fines and even screw yourself in the long run if you or anyone else decides to go into business for themselves as a dealer.

you could float the title which is illegal or you can get a dealers license if you dont want to do allat just flip machines like quads side by sides or dirtbike snowmobiles stuff like that

1. Look for a car 2. Clean it/Fix it 3. Sell it for more than what u put in. The most your going to profit is 1K to about 2K, if not a few hundred. It’s an ok side hustle
